Trading Alex Brown a Horrid Mistake

According to NFL sources and the Tribune, the Bears are actively attempting to trade Alex Brown.  If they can't trade Brown, there is a chance they'll release him.

Aside from being my favorite player on team, Brown has been (with Lance Briggs) the most consistent defensive performer of the last five years.  While his sack totals have never been impressive, he is nevertheless hell for even the elite left tackles to block.  He's all motor.  All intensity.  All heart.  And he has a knack for making plays in big situations.  His goal line tackle to beat the Philadelphia Eagles two years ago is one of the great football plays of my lifetime.

But more than that even, Brown is a vocal critic of the defense.  While so many on that side of the ball fall back on the tired "we're a good defense" mantra that permeates out of Lovie's office, Brown has never shied away from calling out the unit for what they are: bad.

Committing to a combination of Israel Idonije and Mark Anderson opposite Julius Peppers would be a horribly regrettable error.  Idonije's physical prowess is impressive but the coaching staff's inability to find a role for him has led to long stretches of inactivity.  Anderson is nothing more than an okay pass rusher.  He's one of those guys Lovie has a misguided opinion of.

So go ahead and trade Alex Brown for a low-level draft pick and spend the year wondering where the heart of the defense has gone.  Trade Alex Brown and wonder why offenses are more-than-willing to take Julius Peppers out of the game with double-teams and chips.  Trade Alex Brown and watch which side Ryan Grant and Adrian Peterson target.

Or keep Alex Brown.  Because he's one of the best goddamn players on the team.

  • First.

This would kill all the goodwill associated with the FA signings, and is incomprehensibly stupid. In short, it means it'll happen.

  • And why are they moving Idonije to the end and putting all their blind hope in Gilbert? Peppers might be able to cover for Harris, but not the entire line. And that's still a BIG "If".

  • In reply to number1ninja:

I think Lovie has had the idea of moving Izzy from tackle to end ever since telling him to lose the 40 pounds he did before the season.

  • In reply to number1ninja:

sent Mayer an e-mail w/ this blog post verbatim. fuckin' imbeciles

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Apparently Larry Mayer has confirmed the trade rumor, which means it is true, Damn it! The Bears management is Clueless. They Dont learn from their mistakes and continue to make bad decisions anyway. I guess we can forget about a F-Safety, now that they are dumping talent after a few good signings. They bring our hopes up, just to smash them down soon after!!

That last comment is supposed to meant I was speechless. I heard that report by BB on the Score, I can't believe it, I really just can't believe it. This is going on the long list of usual choices they have made to include not locking into Boldin for as cheaply as the Ravens did. If they are trying to use someone as trade bait, why not one of the following?

    Hester
    Olsen
Brian U. (Yes I said it!!)

    UNBELIEVABLE!!

I havent been commenting so much as in the past, even my vents sometimes arent helping me in this situation.

I really want Lovie gone and especially after this in the wake of the other stuff that has come out about his take on Hester and the running game, putting his fingers into the offense is going to mean nothing but calamity. This is really the last straw.

  • In reply to shonbear:

Dude, I know you didn't just say trade Brian Urlacher. Jeff called Alex Brown the heart of our defense - he isn't. It's Urlacher - and we stank worse than ever when he wasn't in that defense last year. We stank because HH was in the middle of our defense doing his best impression of an NFL linebacker (with the body of a safety) and was as useful as a chocolate teapot. Lac is way too important for us given the holes we already have and the gigantic rift he would leave behind. He's locked away in the VIP room with Cutler and Briggs ... trade people we can live without. Not Brian.

  • In reply to number1ninja:

What if we get a quality guard or safety out of this? Shit, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Put another way, are there ANY players you would trade Alex Brown for?

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Exactly, its time for operation "Minty Hippo".

  • In reply to mikebdot:

    Finally something worth opining on...

Let me make it very plain and simple. The season is over without Alex Brown. That's how serious losing him is. Jeff is right, I love Izzy Idonije, but he's not AB. He should probably be inserted at Tackle instead of End, but what the hell do I know...

Releasing Brown would be terrible coaching decision #2 of the 2010 season.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

    1. They're not releasing him.
    2. Marinelli must have had an input into this. They can see who's improving, who's got what. Judge his leaving by who comes in. Pass rushing was our problem, and AB wasn't known as a pass rusher ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And if they DID release him for free, it's time to start marching/picketing, peaceful protests ... that would be totally unacceptable. And insane.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

    Atogwe!

  • In reply to mikebdot:

I hate our coach and gm, and most of the mccaskeys. I also am not crazy about this move. But the only way I end up liking this if we get someone like Atogwe in a trade. We all know that lovie and LA can't draft. So it's Atogwe or we're screwed.

  • In reply to rut419:

Any sexy female McCaskeys ?! God, I never thought of that, marry into the Bears ... how cool would that be ?

  • In reply to mikebdot:

There IS a plausible reason to let it be known you will release Alex if you can't trade him - it is a Mutually Assured Destruction type of threat - if they release him, there will be a bidding war for his services, and he also has to agree that he wants to come to your (maybe crappy) city. If the Bears trade him, the winning team gets Alex for $10.5MM over two years, a bargain given what he has produced, and greatly beneficial in that you're only committing to him for two years - since he'll be 33 at the end of your commitment. A team truly interested in Brown will want to come to the table with the Bears rather than taking their chances in free agency. I guess I reluctantly need to remind you all that JA, if nothing else, IS a good negotiator. He has brains. Lovie-On-A-Stick? (wait for it) NOT. SO. MUCH.

But can we also talk about Terrible Coaching Decision #3 of the seaon? Buried in that puff piece by Mayer? Olin Kreutz coming back, good to go? Check this insanity out...

"One thing that appears certain is that center Olin Kreutz will return for his 13th season. The six-time Pro Bowler had surgery on his lower leg, but the Bears aren

  • In reply to gpldan:

Ryan Leaf is one of a kind. I say the next Brady Quinn.

  • In reply to gpldan:

One final possible good thing about trying to deal Alex Brown. Maybe teams shop around players to gather interest of future restricted free agents. Think about it, teams are prohibited from trying to negotiate a contract with an agent or a player, they can't even contact them I believe. So, why not see if a team has interest in trading such a player. Presumably the team talks with the player or the player's agent to see if there is mutual interest for all involved. Even if the trade doesn't happen, at least the player is aware of the team's desire to put them on the roster. If not this year, then maybe next year.

    Just a thought.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Totally. I'd be surprised to see Brown go now, why would another team offer him a contract ? He's not a pass rusher, doesn't make that many tackles, didn't force any fumbles last year ... in fact, now I want to see him go. Why should we pay him $5 million a year - what does he do exactly ? Tries hard every play ? Guess what ? Not good enough evidently. I'd say Izzy will be the better rusher, Anderson too for that matter ... and we've got some of the best linebackers in the business to wrap up the run. Chili and Butters, Harrison/Adams, hell we can stop the run without Alex Brown. We need a guy or two on the OL way more than we need Alex Brown. Who is 31.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Tell that to Jeff when he posted the thread about the ignorant race baiting Cub. We all have a heartbeat Mustache and all in all its pretty balanced with a squib kick every once in awhile. • In reply to gpldan:

Hey Trac: thanks for your assessment and opinion on Cutler, and I understand how you feel after his 1st year. I have been a die hard Bear fan for 45 years (Yikes,I am 52 already). Anyway, I have been waiting for a franchise Q.B for Decades. Not since good old Sid Luckman won 4 championships, have we had one on Da Bears. So I am probably partial to being over confident, cause I want it to work out so badly. I certainly see the potential. Cutler did have bad coaching(Turner) & very young inexperienced receivers, plus poor O-Line play. I feel the coaching and personnel changes will improve us. The talented young receivers we have, have a year of experience now. Tice will greatly help the line & running game. Forte & Taylor will be a great 1-2 punch, plus we just re signed Bell who showed promise last year. With the addition of Peppers and IF we can stay healthy will greatly improve the defense this year. Although we STILL need a F-Safety! Just my overall opinion, but I think Cutler will have a big year this year. Though, I have been wrong many, many times,LOL.

  • In reply to gpldan:

gpldan, you never know how they will do in the NFL. But at his recent workout in front of all 32 teams, he was "Lights out" according to coaches, such as Pete Carrol. Out of 63 passes in various formations, just about every pass was catchable, so his arm seems to be alright. But we all know Q.B'S are a gamble in the NFL, you dont know what you are going to get, like a box of chocolates(per Forrest Gump),LOL. I think the Rams will snag him with the 1st pick.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

They'd pass on Suh when they could trade for Kolb/Vick or McNabb ? Probably. Dumb move. But probably.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Agreed: We have to do something to pass the dreaded time of the offseason. Especially in between times when Nothing is happening in Football. I wish a ton of info was flowing on Da Bears consistently, so we can stay occupied on a daily basis, but we are in a down time, before the draft. I get tired of talking about the same old news time after time.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Hey Coach: Speaking of your hand jobs. Do you think Omiyale will beat off Shaffer for the R-Tackle position? Ha,Ha.

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

Alex was yesterday's blog and yesterday's news. So be it. The sea giveth and the sea taketh away. If they're making noises then he's already gone by the looks of it, breaking it to the troops gently ...

But having Anderson and Izzy in rotation is far from disastrous. Izzy ? C'mon, the guy is money, he'll cause mayhem - even if Anderson doesn't live up to the recent hype Marinelli is giving him. Anderson has taken it to the next level ? Pre=season will tell. Vaya con dios Alex, I hope they get something good for you my friend. Who will your leaving bring to Chicago ?

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

I guess there's no point in mentioning Pacman Jones on here, right ? I'm more morally ambiguous than most when it comes to players. Looking at last year's defensive play sans Urlacher, Lovie needs some hardened criminals, not a roster full of Greg Olsens that I can't win with. Players who repeatedly fuck up are always looking for that fourteenth or fifteenth chance ... the Bears are short a good corner ... Pacman's fit ...going cheap ...and he's not a hardened criminal - just a little Napoleon when he's drunk. If we can get him to stop drinking under a Bear contract - watch out. The Bears might be the perfect place for him to reflect. Peace.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I think you answered your own question on why Pacman isn't up for discussion. He would make Lovie actually have to coach players, not just manage them, and of course that's impossible. I'd take him unless a CBs just going to fall from the sky, just put an out in the contract. It's not like he's got much choice.

  • In reply to number1ninja:

I honestly believe that D.J Moore can/will step-up this year and make an impact. He's a ball hawk but just a tad bit short to get on the rides at Great America. And I also hope to save a lot on my car insurance this year.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

If the Bears signed Prickman Jones I would not even bother to watch them play next year. I'd rather go 0-16 without him than have to hear his name called out in a Bears uniform.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

bummer, hope you feel better man.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Thanks MB, am slowly on the mend.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The Bears really had(have) an opportunity to fix the 2 biggest pieces in this defense that are missing, a dominant D.E, which we got with Peppers, then a F-Safety. The Bears are also fortunate it is an un capped year. They can fix this if they choose to. The only thing stopping them is themselves, they are in it to Win it right? The resources are there, so dont feed us this shiht about not having the money! Then the Bears decide to part with Brown? after finally strengthening our pass rush. They would rather rely on unproven players or guys that have proven they dont have it(Anderson). Do they do drug test's on management these days? Because there are some serious brain cells lacking at Halas Hall! Some think Sharper could be had for 3.5 mil per year, which is not bad(Saints offered 6 mil/2 years). What the Hell do the Bears expect to get for their biggest hole on defense right now for less than 3.5 mil a year??? God Help Us...

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Concerning my Avatar, the one on the left is Lovie and the one on the Right is Jerry. Until our teams performance shows me otherwise, they are both just goats to me now. I need to see some good football decisions on the field and in future roster moves to change my opinion of them. I will not change it until the image doesn't fit anymore.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Oh brother

...with the money saved with (probably) Brown being released unless some team absolutely wants to trade a 4th round pick for him, the Bears better sign somebody to help like a freaking safety or cornerback.

Why do I see a gimpy Darren Sharper in our future?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Yep, I kinda thought that. But our DB quality went down just recently, not up. We need a CB too, and not some wide receiver draft project that Lovie is going to move to DB, convert into amino acids and back into a DB again ...

Bears' Brown, Seahawks' Sims could trade places
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 27, 2010 7:27 PM ET
We've previously noted that the Chicago Bears are shopping defensive end Alex Brown and that the Seattle Seahawks aren't likely to keep restricted free agent guard Rob Sims. Now there's a report that the two could be trading places.

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune reports, citing an unnamed league source, that Brown could be traded for Sims.

Per Pompei, Sims is not a great fit the zone blocking scheme the new coaching staff in Seattle is installing, but is the kind of lineman new Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice likes. Sims, who started 14 games in Seattle last year, was a fourth-round pick of then-Seahawks General Manager Tim Ruskell in 2006. Ruskell is expected to join the Bears' front office this year.

Brown seems to be the odd man out in Chicago now that the Bears have acquired defensive end Julius Peppers. The Seahawks could use him after trading defensive end Darryl Tapp to the Eagles.

When Tapp was traded, he first signed his tender with the Seahawks and then reached a new deal with the Eagles. A similar arrangement would make sense with Sims and the Bears.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Moving Alex Brown is a terrible move, unless we can get a 2nd rd pick for him, which I doubt will happen.. Even in a strong draft, I dont see Brown as a good deal to trade as far as the Bears are concerned. What are we waiting for Damn it!! We need to get Stronger not Cheaper! Brown is an asset, not a liability!

BF.. I'm not a big fan of the AB situation either..these morons are going to do what they are going to do.. SO at this time if we can get something needed ..as I have been ranting for #1G, #2G and a FS for the trade then I will say yes to it. reluctantly mind you.

FQD, if the Bears pull this off I would be willing to make a prediction that our offense will be twice as effective as it was last year. I like this move.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Hey Trac: I really believe we are all going to be surprised at the improvement on our offense this year. Turner being ousted improved our offense right away. Martz and Tice will make a big difference as well. Think about it, going from Turner to Martz. Like you said, lets wait & see what we have when we get to training camp. Just Sayin.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I forgot earlier that the Seahawks are also looking to release D.E Patrick Kerney, plus they already lost Tapp, so they do have need there, just sayin.

I need to give props out to my cousins the Rams. At least they are honest about gaping holes all over their team.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    gaping holes...lol

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

The only thing wrong with trading Brown, they waited 5 years too long. Sure he appears to be great in the locker room and a all around nice person, but his play on the field is average at best. His job is to get sacks and pressure, he doesn't do either one.
He forces fumbles and defends passes and he always hustles, but he's not quick enough to get around blockers and not strong enough to bull rush when loked up by a blocker. I don't have a problem getting rid of any player as long as the replacement is better. Right now it doesn't look like this will happen, but on the field it's not much of a loss. Besides, Anderson would be coming in to replace Brown on third downs. That's supposed to be the "money down" for a defensive end but Brown has yet to show he can get to the qb on a consistent basis.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

We go from not being able to run out of a paper bag on 1st downs to manageable 2nd and 3rd downs if this guy does his job.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac..agree..I am concerned about the injury prone line in the article shonbear found that..has anyone found any more info on that?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

So much for the AB and Simms deal, Seahawks don't want to pay the price.

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

    Madd..aw.... clustercuss!

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

The only question I have is, do they need a TE?

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

I am so pissed right now. McNabb for a 2nd rounder? Really, you mean we mortgaged our future for Cuttler last year which brought us another season filled with embarrassing performance's. We gave up a starting QB, 2 1st rounders and a 3 rounder because JA needed some publicity? For what? Was he worth it Bears fans? Now we don't even have anybody on the roster that we can trade for a 2nd round pick? I think everything we have done in the last year including signing Peppers will eventually amount to a vast bottomless black hole. Well done Jerry. You have sold the soul of this team down the river for a cheap thrill.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Whoa, Whoa, I thought you were being positive until the dust settles and you see where we end up??? Remember you said wait until all the choices are made before we get to negative on the Bears. You said it, so be strong man!! Go Bears.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

He might have trigger issues, but Cutler has tools this franchise has *never* seen. Given an offensive line and NFL receivers he'll be as good as any of them. And we've already seen what Jerry does with first round picks ... he'll get flack for it, but it was a step in the right direction ... if we had a QB in the Super Bowl, we'd have won.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I guess the lesson in all this is that we have no fucking clue what this is all going to look like come Game 1: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/36069422/ns/sports-player_news/

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB..so baby Jebus shines on us and Satin ..I mean JA... can't get it done..I know Seattle may not be interested in trade but still get this kid..bring me a Guard!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

is there a way to keep AB while asking him to take a pay cut if no one out there will pay his salary next year? i don't even know if it's possible but we should find any avenue to keep this guy.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

waffle...adjustment...we are incapable of adjustment's to the situations..Why are we not creative in what we do on the management side? clustercuss!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Hey Lobo, I think it is safe to say Angelo is not a Poker player, LOL.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Johnny. If the Bears handled this situation differently, they may have had a chance to bring Brown back for less. But not anymore, they burned a serious bridge with Brown in how they are handling this. Browns a great guy & a total team player. I think he might have taken a pay cut. But The Bears are kind of just throwing him away in a disrepectful manner. He is pissed, and I dont blame him. Brown is skipping all team activities now. Our management just cant seem to go about business the right way, they screw up too many things. The most frustrating thing is seeing them make the same mistakes over & over??

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

o.k. so we don't trade but get Sims you arsemunches..NOW!!!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

We'll probably have to give up our 4th rounder for him.

Nobody is going to pick up AB's 5M/y salary. Nobody. Everybody knows the Bears are up against it, they played this wrong, it would have been best to be dealing Brown early on in the offseason, right about the time you were collecting pennies in Ginny's couch for Peppers.

Anybody who wants Brown will simply wait until the Bears release him, and then sign him to something like a $700k contract for one year. And I really don't think anybody wants AB that much, he's a backup. Yes he has heart, yes he plays hurt and is a leader. All those things are true of Hunter as well. They just don't have the size/strength ie talent to compete.

  • In reply to gpldan:

gp..you said it "played this wrong" do any these morons have any idea how to work in the NFL..It's like watching "Celebrity Apprentice"... clustercuss!!frank!!..@!#$#@!$#!@$#@!$#!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Hey Lobo, I dont know what to think anymore, with this management. They have a twisted mind of their own, I guess! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF..I know. This Upper Management makes little or no sense at all. They are set on letting AB go..so get something you buttmunches and prove us all wrong.. PLEASE!! JA

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Lets explore some possible trade bait.

Olsen-I read somewhere that the Bears were offered a 4th or 5th rounder for him. No help here.

Alex Brown-It seems at 31 his trade value is so minimal that the Bears have indicated they may just release him. No help here.

Jamar Williams-I read he was being shopped but what team would give up a 2nd rounder for a promising player that doesn't even start? No help here I think.(Could be wrong on this one though)

Nick Roach- Now there's an interesting possibility. He performed pretty well as the signal caller on D last year as a replacement for Urlacher, I could definitely see a team in need trading for him. Unfortunately the Bears have put a 2nd round tender on him which makes it highly unlikely we could move him unless some team at the bottom of the 2nd round feels comfortable with his skill set(doubtful, but certainly a possibility). Hmmm. Maybe the Bears have something in the works with Roach. Lets hope so because I don't see anybody else on our roster that can bring us a second rounder that the Bears have deemed expendable.

We certainly should all remember that the average NFL team see's around 20 roster changes every year so things could definitely get interesting in the weeks and months to come. We also should anticipate that every GM has their best poker face's on at this time of year so lets just hope that JA is on top of his game. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Fan, I think its easy to see the worst in every decision they make or rumor we hear. I am trying to guard against that and I actually am quite willing to wait and see the product the Bears put on the field next year.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

My favorite comment from the Sims link on that right here and it makes good sense with the way our management makes decisions:

"and Sims has been an injury-prone mediocrity."

Seems like a Bear to me... Ahh Tim R. is already making his mark on our Bears from the Left Coast.

  • In reply to shonbear:

shon.....I didn't see that..if that's the case don't want him..we have to many on the LovieExpress.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

As opposed to our injury-prone bad line. Sad to say but Sims would be a definite improvement.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    trac...How sad is that. uuggghhh.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Sorry lobo, I thought you and fan were talking about a FS again so I didn't read your entire post on the first pass.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac... wish we were discussing a FS..I don't know what to make of all these moves.. I think you might be right in sitting back and watching the dust settle and then adjust.

I don't mean as adjusting the furniture if you know what I mean? or the non-adjusting our beloved coach does, both take to much time.haha

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    Hey Jeff,

Horrid as in rough or bristling?

    or

Horrid as inspiring disgust or loathing?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

My bad, no need to answer.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

My problem is yea sure, let's get someone for him, but Olsen was more valuable in that regard and not likely as valuable to the Mats offense. Then there is this thing about Lovie opening his freakin mouth on all these things.

    - Marts says Hester should stay on special teams, lovie says look to see him more on offense.
    - Hester says he wants to be mainly on special teams, Lovie says no change.
    - We all know the O line needs a lot of work to include an upgrade at Center and Lovie comes out and says the O line is good.
    - We all know Marts is a pass first guy and the run is an afterthought, so Lovie says we are a running team.
    - We all know that Alex was one of our best, the others are average at best and definitely not the leader he is, so let's trade him or let him go. WTF!
    - Why are we getting a 5'8' average unproven cornerback??? Makes as much sense as picking up the DB (whatever his name was)we got from TB last year after the loss.
    - Why didnt we get Boldin for the price the Ravens got him?
    - What the hell on our Defensive Coordinator choice which was no choice, we really didnt see that much of a pick up from the Defensive line last year because of RM, so lets promote him.
    - Gaines Adams was an unproven choice, God Rest his Soul though.

Nothing seems to really change with this crap. I am tired of their arrogance. Arrogance with success is ok and expected, but arrogance with three embarrassing years to follow a Super Bowl is enough.

So here we go into another season with false hope. Do teams the make the playoffs on a regular basis have these kinds of problems, know because they have a firm foundation of leadership in their organization and their team and they draft well enough to keep the machine going. Yes, every team deals with injury scenarios that keep them out or whatever, but as I have preached forever and ever (though not in awhile here).

I want the Bears to be one of those well oiled machines, consistent, a proud franchise with proud fans. Fans that can say to a Dallas fan for instance, "you know the Bears are going to wax that ass on Turkey Day right?", but instead a Bears fan has to say that knowing that it is not likely and when they do wax that ass we are as surprised as the Dallas fan that it happened, even though we wouldnt tell them that.

    I dream.

Anyways, MB30SD I am still waiting to hear what your picture is of me, I've been around awhile I want to enjoy your synopsis... Bring it!

  • In reply to shonbear:

shon....Arrogance.. you hit it right on the head brother!do we need to say more....no...

I think if I look up arrogance and assmunch/asshat in the dictionary and they are right next to each other and why do they both have JA and LDL's pictures next to them.

Does anyone else have the same dictionary?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I'd like to point out I was pulling for Omiyale at Right Tackle for most of last season.
I hate to think about losing AB for the reasons most of us have expressed: the guy hates losing and bullshit in equal measures. On the other hand, trading him for a decent interior offensive lineman sounds more and more reasonable every time I think about the pocket collapsing on Cutler last year.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Follow up on the "Jokie" Porter arrest...

Apparently he was 'uncooperative" when pulled over, tried to roll up the window and when the CHP Officer reached in to stop him he slapped the guy's hand away.

    Badda-BING! Assaulting an officer.

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

Hello fellow Bear fans, good afternoon. I appreciate the fact some of you were nice & supportive to me on this site, Thank You! Some of what I have said about my Meds & Beer have been taken out of context, I think. I rarely mix the two to be honest. Sometimes I have a Perc with a six pack, but usually I skip my meds in the afternoon and have some beers to compensate. I actually hate taking pills and I am on 7 different meds From Chronic pain to depression. I am still dealing with the depression & getting counseling. Thank you to some of you who are concerned about my health & well being. But I am trying and getting better slowly. But I have to keep myself going for my Son, who means the world to me. My condition is rare & extremely painful, every movement aggravates the damaged nerve endings and the pain is un real, nothing I can really do to get relief or comfort. Anyway, Some of my comments were trying to be funny, which I dont do a good job of, but I try, it helps me feel better. Anything I can do to laugh or be happy really helps me alot. That is why I love this web site, cause there are some great Bear fans here, who have alot of knowledge & ideas. It helps give me something to do. When it comes to the Bears, I love to talk about them, especially with other fans, like you Guys, Thanks Again.. Last thing, anyone who has a problem with how I write or my Grammar, kiss my Asss. Before my disability I was a mechanic & manager in the automotive business all my life. I am NOT a pencil pusher, or a frickin teacher. We were poor growing up in Chi, so I didnt get the education other kids were fortunate to get. Sorry to ramble, Thanks again to all you great supportive Bear fans on here, you know who you are. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

Hey Murph: Sorry about your heart condition, good luck & God Bless!

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

Hey Jeff: Sorry for some of my comments, I was wrong to say some of the things I said. I heard other posters tease you in the past about using other names on the blog. So it just popped in my head while I was Pissed off. Sorry, Take Care.

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

You knew this was coming guys: Have we signed a Damn F-Safety yet?? I read that Sharper plans to finish his rehab before visiting teams. Everything I am seeing, hearing & reading suggests that Otogwe would be the best person for us. I think I read he had like 18 picks & 16 f-fumbles in the last 4 years. That is exactly what Lovie says he needs in his defense. A great ball hawking F-Safety, so lets get it done. If the Bears are stupid enough to get rid of Brown, they better back it up with a big move at F-Safety. Otherwise we are going to go backwards after making efforts to go forward(Peppers). We need a veteran there, not a developemental player, that may or may not work. Lovies regime has changed Safety positions both at Free & Strong Safety positions 40 Times since they took over in 2004!!! That is Unbelievable!! I think that right there says it all, and is exactly why we need a Proven free agent at F-Safety this time! We are going to need our few Lower draft picks on the O-Line/Center and Cornerback.

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

I just cant fathom, how we have not dedicated ourselves yet at safety, being one of the most important parts of Lovies defense. 40 changes at that position already? Angelo was brilliant to trade Chris Harris wasnt he? Stupid. It is the Blind leading the frickin Blind around here, LOL.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

We had Mike Brown and no team wants to pay the big bucks for a backup/benchwarmer. That's the NFL Fan.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

I cant frickin believe it, trading Alex?? We have the stupidest management in the league, next to the Bills!! Think about this, the Bears are trying to trade Alex Brown, yet they are stupid enough to tell the whole league if they cant trade him they will release him??????? Hello!! Like anyone will give you a draft pick when you announce to everyone you will release him anyways?? Plus if they were going to make this move they should have done it right after they signed Peppers, not after the main free agency period is over with!! I realize we were deep at the position, but for damn sake trade Anderson instead. WE sign Peppers to greatly improve our line, then we turn around & trade away a valuable D.E on the team?? So we get real strong in free agency, just to get weaker now??? Alex Brown would have had a great year with the addition of Peppers. Brown is respected in the league, do you think Anderson or Idonije is?? I like Idonije though, but Brown is obviously the best D.E next to Peppers. Then one wonders what is up at free safety? We weaken the line after making it stronger, yet we still have no F-Safety, which was even a need according to Lovie & Angelo.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Lovie is always trying to play guys out of their positions,WHY??? They sign a T.E and decide why not make him a D.E. Or sign a cornerback and try to make him a safety or god knows what else? Why dont they just sign and draft players that actually play the position they are looking for, you know, positions the players are good at or have played in their career, gheez!! I was encouraged this year during f-agency, but know I am losing confidence fast, cause we make a good move and follow it up with several bad moves, which continue to keep us down!!!

  • In reply to number1ninja:

    stupid. stupid. stupid.

    this is really stupid.

  • In reply to Dmband:

So stupid, that it makes too much sense for LDL.

Maybe he gets traded for his inability to spit out the LDL euphemisms?

  • In reply to Dmband:

I've always respected Alex Brown for not giving us the 'company line' after horrid defensive performances. Probably one of the reasons I also loved Mike Brown. It always seemed like it meant a little more to both of those guys...aren't those they kind of players you want on your football team?

After they trade or release him, Lovie will give us some bullshit about 'how hard it is to lose a great player and person like AB. You just can't replace someone like him in the locker room.'

NEWSFLASH....you don't have to replace him!

It's almost as if the Cutler deal last year and the Peppers signing this year just temporarily blinded all of us from what the real problem this organization has right now: Lovie and JA.

Can't wait to watch Mark Anderson get bulldozed on running plays every game next year only to celebrate like he won the damn super bowl the rare time he tackles a running back as he's falling backwards after a gain of five yards. Whoop de fucking do!

  • In reply to BearDown1982:

Pretty much what I've been saying since the first day of FA ended.

They spent all the money and made a huge splash, but did fuckall to actually fill the 2 or 3 biggest gaps we had on the team.

This kind of ridiculous, moronic bullshit won't end until Lovie and JA are shitcanned and gone.

  • In reply to BearDown1982:

Mark Anderson is supposed to be one of our improved players this year according to Marinelli, as always, we'll see ...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Foolish move. I wonder, though, who or what they hope to get for him. Brown is the kind of player a team needs, but I don't feel like he's got enough of a league wide reputation that would get us a player of his caliber that fills a void, such as safety.

    He's our secret weapon.

  • In reply to Dmband:

+1. His absence would be felt on the field and probably more so in the locker room. In my opinion, he gets his teammates ready to play and is a perfect model on how to be a prepared professional. Doc won't like this at all. How the hell are you going to move your captain and one of the player's faces of the franchise? STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Dmband:

IF IF IF we wind up with a quality safety, maybe I will consider this a good move.

Sometimes it feels like they are just fucking with us.

    As you guys pointed

  • In reply to Dmband:

I lost my train of thought...sorry...blacked out.

  • In reply to Dmband:

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Maybe Lovie was paying attention to Jeffs threads about Olsen being the key to success for our team. Take it back Jeff, tell LS you were only joking, right?

I responded to Irish about this kind of thing happening a few days ago. Its called shuffle the money. If you think about it, who else can they trade that has any value at all? Olsen.....I don't think so. Part of the game guys, I hate it but that's the way the worm turns. Its not a foregone conclusion yet is it. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see when the dust settle's.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

you know, I'm not usually one for the dramatic, but Alex Brown has been one of my favorite players for a while, and if they trade him, or even worse, release him, then my interest in this upcoming season nose dives.

    5) Troll? Nope.

    7) I only take out frustration on you. Not insecurity. I leave that to my girlfriend.

    8) Something to say: I don't like your posts, and they make me feel like ripping my eyes out. Mainly because of all the damn punctuation, or lack thereof. Add a few dozen adolescent "LOL" and randomly capitalized words... and I feel like I'm back at the Chicago Bears message board. Other than regurgitating previously posted thoughts, what do you add? The only humor I get from you... is "I can't believe this guy" scoffs.

Reading your posts, in general, is like watching a small animal get tortured.

  • Incidentally, I know Alex Brown is a cool guy and a decent DE, but seriously, he was a part of some of the worst Bears defenses in recent history. To pretend his lack of CONSISTENT pressure off the edge is not a part of the reason is goofy. Make moves. I don't care what they are. I want fresh blood folks.

I have a much bigger problem with THIS:

Fuck that noise. Our O-line was worse than our D-line.

Fuck Lovie Smith. He's some blood I don't want either. But shopping Alex Brown for value is not a concern I have.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

I saw that too bdot. What do you expect LS to do other than Bloviate this non-sensicle tripe. It's called rally the troops. A coach has to pump up the fella's regardless of the truth.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Hey Trac, in it to win it, Yeah thats what they tell us Brother, isnt it?? You guys have been waiting for this, but Where is our Free Safety, Damn It?? At the Very least they better plan on bringing in Atogwe or Sharper, if they decide to trade Brown.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

RT @Papabeargsh: The Score 670 is saying Brown has told his teammates that he won't be back.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Whats so dumb (and now this is the 3rd time this has happened in chicago) is they have YET AGAIN destroyed ANY leverage they may have had in a trade.

So when a team hears, well we will release him anyway, why would they offer us ANYTHING.

  • In reply to Dmband:

DMB...Stupid is as Sutpid does!!!! and as we all know LDL and the clowns at Halas are showing their true colors.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Its down right laughable, that we already have 2 terrible decisions for the 2010 season and its March.

    Fuck my life.

  • In reply to Dmband:

This one line tells everything how this coach has his head up his arse!!

"Lovie Smith has faith and confidence in the Bears offensive line"

right from the rest of the shit dealt out on DA Site..MORONS!!!

  • In reply to Dmband:

The Bears are actually doing a smart thing for a change by attempting to trade Alex Brown. At 31, how much does he really have left in the tank?? And, you always want to lose a player just off his peak than wait until he troughs out. As good a team guy and fan favorite as AB is, the DL needs to get younger. I think the Bears are counting on Tommie having a better season, and if Tommie is beating the double team you need speed on the outside to have an effective pass rush. Anderson and Izzy have more speed and are younger than AB. The stupid thing that the Bears are talking about is releasing him. How can you actively shop a guy if the teams you are talking to know that he will be released later??? That is simply bad business. Or, business McCaskey-style.
Additionally, there is talk that with the possible savings from AB there will be enough $$$ for that quality veteran safety from StL that we all covet.
Regarding the Ravens and Anquan Boldin...the Bears wouldn't have gotten that deal. That deal was strictly to get him out of the NFC where he couldn't come back and bite the Cardinals once or twice a year.
Alex Brown has been a warrior for the Bears. The fans and the press love him, and he has been a good teammate and Captain. Going forward, I think we can have a better defense without him.

  • In reply to SpawnOfDitka:

Spawn I think releasing Brown would be a self serving gift to Alex for his outstanding service to the club. #1, it free's up 5 Mill for the Club and it allows AB the opportunity to choose who he signs with. He's been solid and life will go on gents.

  • In reply to SpawnOfDitka:

o.k... I understand the movement on the trade but to telegraph your ideas and then say you may still release him. Wow If I'm another team sure I trade him for a high round "NOT!!!!."Thats the Stupid is as Stupid does. I mean do we have any business sense in this management. and then to put out as I posted earlier he feels confident of our O-line..

Fresno I think your last line say's it all!!!! or maybe this instead:

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

Teams would rather trade for Alex because he's signed to a reasonable contract for the next 2 years ($5 mil/year). If they release him there's a good chance he will get way more than that on the open market. Even with that reasoning it makes no sense to say they would release him.

How is it we went from being short handed at DE to so packed we're going to release our steadiest DE? It's gotta be all about the money. Not happy about this.

    Go Bears!

49ers will start practicing football Monday
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 26, 2010 11:05 AM ET
The San Francisco 49ers will hit the football field this year before April Fool's Day.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers will hold organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday and Tuesday, the earliest on-field work we've ever heard of.

Barrows notes that no teams practiced in March last year and only two teams did in April. Rookie coaches get a few extra OTAs to work with, so they occasionally work with their teams just before the draft.

Mike Singletary isn't a rookie coach, but he wants to get back to work quickly.

The NFL Network slogan really rings true: There is no offseason.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Mike is such a Bad Ass

  • In reply to nicholsra:

The way I see it is you brought in Julius "Ghost" Peppers to rush the QB, Tommie "Butter" Harris to clog the middle and Alex "Bear Paw" Brown to stop the run. Now, UNLESS they are trying to trade him for a 2nd draft pick(which they won't get) OR freeing up money to sign Atogwe long term, what the hell are they thinking?

There is nobody else on the FA market worth going after. Sharper you can get for cheap and short term. And there are no #1 WR's to go after. I'm just trying to figure out the next move and I just can't. I mean, you have to figure Lovie, Angelo, and Phillips know what their doing right?? That's why they are executives and we are the paying customers right??

I think this organization has Borderline Personality Disorder. This move (if to acquire a draft pick) goes against the Win Now attitude. By bringing in the big Free Agents shows they want to win now. Trading Alex for draft picks means rebuild mode. That can only mean they have a Free Agent on their radar and must be in contract negotiations already. But who can it be?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I'm gonna miss Alex. I think it was against the Giants in New York in 2004 when he almost single-handedly won a game. He made some big plays, forced some fumbles.

There have been several of you like Willie (AKA Jeff) that have made fun of me over-dosing because I am on Chronic pain meds, from a disability from a surgery gone wrong. All I can say is you people are heartless, and I hope you have the same fate, since it is so fucking funny. I wouldnt wish this tragedy on anyone. I thought the blog was about the Bears and the fans, but apparently not! There is no Humor in my condition!!! How would you all like to have chronic nerve pain 24/7 your whole life and cant be fixed. On a scale of 1-10 I am a 7 on most days on the pain scale every day of my life, even with meds, i cant sleep, eat, i am sick all the time. But some of you make it sound like a fuhcking game!!!! Funny how my responses to Willie were deleted as I suspected, cause Willie is Jeff, as well as other entities you all have accused him of. To Me that is just Chicken Shiht, to hide behind your computer & use different names, LOL.. I really thought this web site was different, but even though I dont attack people, unless attacked, I still have to be scrutinized, by chumps that call themselves Bear Fans, LOL.. I mean If you ALL want me to go away, just say so already. Just dont play pre school games about it. Some of you have been great on here, no doubt. But others are downright ass kickable!! Bear Down! Go Bears!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    Here's our chance!

Do we ALL have to say so... Or just the majority?

All fun banter aside, I feel bad for your life. However, I feel worse for everyone who has to read your pharmaceutical based ramblings. When it says "do not operate heavy machinery", just assume it means your computer.

For verification, I never attacked your grammar. Other than a barrage of comma splices, you typically have decent grammar. Spelling - I didn't mention this before - but it's not the best. My BIGGEST issue is the exclamation points, LOL's, and the commas without spaces following (which you have generally improved on, and I applaud you for the effort).

More than anything, I felt the need to be the one to tell you to make it a bit easier on everyone who reads this blog. No random Capitalization. No LOL'ing yourself left and right. No commas without a space coming immediately after. That's it.

But, I get it. It's the drugs (and the booze).

    Sorry, buddy.

    XOXO

    Willie

I empathise with your back pain, or could have done at one time, warm weather and stretching has those days long behind me, getting older means those days are not too far ahead of us again. Women think they have the pain market cornered with childbirth, but let me pass a bowling ball out my ass before a back spasm please. Thing is #1BF, this is a Bear blog full of ravenous Bear cubs who are going to ream you for recounting medical conditions/medication etc. as they may interpret that as 'looking for sympathy'. Tis' human nature my friend.

Is it possible that AB wanted out? Intimidated by Peppers? Sick of Lovie? Wants to go to a SuperBowl?

  • In reply to Dmband:

Hot Rod is out DC. Obviously he thinks this is what we have to do. I do think you guys are setting the bar too high for next year AGAIN.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

    mikebdot-

I dont think any of us would complain if this netted us a quality veteran safety. But see my post above for reason why that wont happen.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Well, I've seen this before where a team seems to lack leverage, but I think a team would be far more willing to control the value of what they would have to pay rather than get into a bidding war. The question is does anyone here think he is worth more than $5MM per year? If so, then we have leverage, if not, then why the fuck do you want him, he's obviously not as good as you claim?

  • Oh well, I tried. Who responded after my post.

  • I'm pretty sure if it weren't for the collective bargaining Brown would have been an unrestricted free agent. Sounds like its a win win for the Bears and Brown. I don't have near as much of a problem with this one as I do keeping Hester on O fulltime and not returning K.O.'s.

  • Like I said before, Lovie SUCKS and needed to be released. Just because they went out and got Peppers doesnt mean Lovie is a good coach with right judgement. Lovie said that he thought Anderson was awesome last year, but didnt get enough credit. Have fun giving up massive runs to that side next season. Stupid asses

  • I am totally surprised they are shopping Brown, seriously!! We get addition, but end it with subtraction, Damn It!! I see it as we initially improved on the D-Line at 65% but then we trade Brown and take a hit of 25%, so how does that leave us far ahead in improvements, it doesnt! Brown has needed a stud opposite him, for him to really shine. Now he has that and they want to trade him now, or just release him for Nothing!!! AARghh if they would have offered Brown for trade at the beginning of F-agency, we could have got something good for him. But the spending spree is over, now they want to move him?? Then they tell the World they will release him if he isnt traded? Hello, when you tell the league you will release him, how the Fuhck do expect to get anything for him in a trade now, so Stupid!!!

  • I wouldn't be surprised if the Bears and Brown wanted this.

  • Hey Murph, I am still alive and thanks for your support. But my Chronic pain disability is no joke, and I wouldnt wish it on anyone, it is 24/7. The chronic pain is always there, the rest of my life, I cant work or do much of anything now, It is not funny. It has turned my family upside down, we can hardly survive now, it is NOT FUNNY!!!

  • Thanks Murph, I will do the same for you. Bear Down! Go Bears!

  • You are correct sir, just going with the imagination flow.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

MB30SD puched the magician for obfuscating his view of the win.

  • Good Morning. The Bears totally played this deal wrong with Alex Brown. I cant believe they were actually stupid enough to say they would release him, if they cant trade him?? Hello, like who is going to trade us something now after the Bears say that? they blew a good trade opportunity by saying they would release him. I guarantee Angelo doesnt play Poker, or he would be broke!! We probably could have approached him to take a pay cut to stay, but not anymore, not the way the Bears went about this. Brown said he is skipping workouts. The time to deal Brown was right after signing Peppers, they waited too long.

  • We can still get Sims if we want, it will cost us a 4th rd pick as that is his restricted tender. The Seahawks have made it clear they do not want him back. In fact they told Sims to stay away from the workouts & facilities. So I dont see Seattle matching an offer sheet. So the question is, is he worth our 4th rd pick? seeing we already dont have 1st & 2nd rd choices? I would like to know more about Sims. Does anyone here know Sims well enough to offer up some more info on this guy?

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Trading our 4th round pick would amount to a 2nd rounder for us since we don't draft on the first day of the draft. There are probably better guard prospects that will still be available to us if we fill the need in the draft. Trading Brown would have been better. We can still give Seattle some money in the deal which is what we will probably have to do to keep it alive. This may happen if nobody else shows interest in signing Brown.

  • He was demoted to backup behind Mark Anderson a few years ago. Anderson, however, could not play the run for shit. So Brown got his job back.

On a good D, Brown is 2nd string. He can go to the Browns and start.

  • In reply to gpldan:

The Browns line is awesome - I watched them collapse the Steelers last year on their own. I don't think Alex is big enough to play 3-4 ?

  • In reply to gpldan:

The blog is now a record-breaker on length methinks. As a result #1BF, I can't even find the 'McMahon wasn't a franchise QB' comment. But I had to pass this on, Jim was my hero as a kid. Jim's Dad isn't well and they won't let his son who broke 70 NCAA records into their hall of fame : http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700264190/Doug-Robinson-BYU-football-A-fathers-dream.html?pg=1

    A nice excerpt :

Jim McMahon was the best quarterback ever to play at BYU, period. Better than Steve Young. Better than Ty Detmer. Better than any of them.

He was so good that an opposing defense once gave him a standing ovation after the game as he left the field. And that was after a rare loss. He was so good that Holmoe lays aside his normal A.D.'s diplomacy to say this: "He might be the best player who ever played at BYU, and in my position. I don't usually say things like that."

NCAA statisticians called McMahon the Babe Ruth of college football. He set 70 NCAA records, which is a record for records. He set records for passing efficiency, yardage, total offense, touchdowns. He did it despite sharing the quarterback job with Marc Wilson during his sophomore year. He did it despite repeatedly injuring his throwing shoulder and finally his knee in his senior year, which forced him to miss games and wear a 30-pound brace.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    new thread

  • Hey Trac: You make a good point about waiting till we are done making moves, before we criticize them too harshly. I totally agree with you and I try, but Angelos track record does Not instill much confidence. As fans we really dont know what goes on behind closed doors, some of it we probably dont want to know,LOL. As fans whenever a player of need comes available, we want him signed or we think they are ignoring the position or being cheap. But maybe there are some of these players of need who have yet to be released that are better players? The Bears may know about them, but we dont. As fans all we can go off is what the media says or what we actually are allowed to see or hear. I cant lie, I am an impatient person myself. On a positive note, I have to give credit where credit is due. Kudos to Angelo & the boys for acquiring Peppers,Taylor & Manimal. These were Great signings & they invested 120+ mil. Just like last year in getting Cutler, they have surprised me of late, maybe there are more surprises to come. So there was my positive twist and opinions. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I have no problem with harsh criticism Fan. Just wasted criticism.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

So are you staying positive? till all the moves are done, or are you losing it a bit?? Like you said, we should stay positive & I agree till the moves are all done. Then lets see where we stand!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Guys i just don't buy the whole "mortgage our future" regarding Cutler. It barely affected 1 draft and based on past draft performances that doens't mean shit. He is a number 1 draft pick essentially. We finally got a QB that brings skills to the table and has the rest of his career in front of him. Give the kid more than one year before you crucify him. Meaning, don't be a typical Bears fan.
We can't blame Cutler for the other asinine moves that the jokers upstairs and in the coaching staff make. Cutler was the right move for the Bears. We have have been shortchanged in the QB dept for so long and it was finally addressed. The way they dealt with both Brown situations was the wrong move. Not addressing FS is the wrong move.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Stop drinking the koolaid waffle. JC Torpedo will rank up with the Hershel Waker and Ricky Williams trades when the dust settles. Great arm yes, worth the price of admission, no.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac, are you actually slamming Cutler? WOW! He is one of the best trades this team could have made?? Cutler Will end up being the best Q.B in Bears History!! Maybe you would rather have Culpepper? You confuse me with that comment, though it is your opinion!! GO Bears!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Gotta give the kid another year trac. And if lovie and JA can't pull their shit together and get the kid some protection and a decent run game to spread some of the pressure, then he deserves another year (at least) under the new regime (please dog).

If he shits the bed like he did last year WITH protection and WITH a decent run game, then I'm 100% with you. But until he gets even some decent support, throwing him away now is a bit premature.

Favre threw more interceptions the year before, and not a peep out of anyone. P Manning throws six INTs in a game and not a peep ....

They love to have a guy to hate. Unfortunately, we don't have the receivers I'd like for him to show off with. I'd hang my hat on Shabba, but he's the only one. The season will be much like last season for the receivers, running around like headless chickens, not knowing where they're supposed to be or what they're doing. Balls bouncing off their heads because they don't think they're the primary receiver. Hester sprinting around trying to look cool for god knows what, the playbook a distant memory, add in the Bennett brains trust and Knox the sophomore, and it's a pretty uninspiring bunch given the new offense they have to learn. Lovie can say he's going to run the ball until the cows come home, but not behind that line he's not, and when the secondary gives up yardage the way they did last year, then it's back to the air, and we do NOT have the weapons necessary. I know our receiving corps has their fans on here, but ...

    1. They are not going to get smarter.
    2. They are not going to get taller.
    3. They are back at square one classroom-wise.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Favre and Manning have had spectacular seasons. Cutler has not been consistent enough to gain my support yet. When he leads the North in TD's, Yds, and wins I will endorse him.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Notice I didn't mention picks? That was on purpose. I could care less if a gunslinger throws errant picks from time to time. What I care about are the careless ones that take us out of field goal position or lose us the game before halftime.

MB be careful on those weekend trips to Mexico...not sure if you heard about the most recent atrocity. Girls went down there for vacation, friend went missing, they found her in the back of a car trying to get back into the states....one catch:

The had removed her insides, sold her organs, and stuffed her with drugs.

Disgusting and sad...I only post this because this is happening everyday as the feds continue to wage a useless war...just sayin.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yeah DM, fucking crazy savage shit going down in Mex these days.

One of the first publicized 'jackings' that happened about 2 years ago actually happened to a buddy of mine. They were going down on a surf trip with boards, kiteboards, a couple bikes (moto), a couple jetskis, three cars, a camper, and untold equipment. Got pulled over by unmarked 'police cars' right in the canyon before you get on the toll road outside of TJ. They all got yanked out of their cars at gunpoint and were made to kneel on the side of the road with a gun to their heads. After too much traffic kept coming, the bandits told them fuck it, today is your lucky day... run! And off these fucking guys went with everything. My buddy just felt lucky to make it back alive.

I used to go down a lot on surf trips and to just enjoy the culture (once you're past Ensenada, there is actually real Mexican culture). Also used to go to Cabo and Puerta Vallarta (well, outside of PV anyway), and a spot outside Ixtapa to surf... Anyway, no fucking way I go anywhere near any of it now. I'm done until (if) they can ever clean the place up. It's so sad. It's an amazing place and the rural/non-urban people and cities are still incredible.

It's really all too bad. Not sure it can/will ever get fixed, but makes me sad every time I get an itch to go down.. All us San Diegans are hyper aware of it. The scary part is that it WILL make its way into the US more and more. Thanks for the warning DM.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

And for all those who hope we hurry up and hire Sims already ... what about Justin Smiley ? This Sims guys sucks according to the fans - some comments from the Trib :

[One more quick comment since what I have read in here most of you either don't know much about Rob Sims or you use words like "promising" or "mauler" associated with him. As someone who has watched every minute of every Seahawks game Rob Sims has played in let me tell you...whatever the EXACT opposite of "promising" is..that's him. If by "mauler" you mean not being able to read bliz assignments, failing to adjust to audibiles, and being one of the worst pass protection guards in the NFL..then he's the best "mauler" ever.

If you went to a Seahawks blog site (www.tribnet.com..just as an example) and asked the fans on there what they thought of Rob Sims, you would be reading alot of swear words leading up to the fact that this guy will never get it. We can't get rid of him fast enough. Considering Seattle has requested he stay away from the team (he's that highly thought of) he will be gone..so if we get a breathing human back for him (I would settle for any object that requires oxygen to survive) it's the trade of the decade.

Of course I'm overexaggerating, but in all honesty he is a terrible player. Enjoy.

Seahawk fan here... Any Chicago fan absolutely does NOT want this trade to happen. Rob Sims is a siive at LG. When he came to Seattle 4 years ago we were told about his exploits as a champion power lifter but how he underachieved at OSU. We waited. And waited. And waited. I am definitely a glass half full type of fan, but I can't honestly think of one single thing Rob Sims did for our football team aside from getting our QB's killed.

He isn't a good run blocker and out of 64 starting guards in the NFL his is probably #63 in pass pro. He is surly off the field and no one here would be upset to see him go..especially considering most fans have asked for this to happen for 3 1/2 years now.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Thanks Irish. Sounds like a perfect acquisition for JA. *Exactly* the kind of guy JA LOVES to pay too much for. Jebus Christo, what a cluster fuck.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That Justin Smiley dude seemed to be worth the risk - I see Bear fans all calling for "The Mauler" on other sites now, could be his nick-name in the bar ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

My God. They can't get enough of Sims over on CBMB. "Sign him! He's a bulldozer!". It's like they just cloned Walter.

Anyone ever hear about this guy before yesterday ?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Peppers is a great player, do doubt about it....but so is Urlacher and how many games did he play in last year?

There's a reason the New England Patriots have been so good in recent years--they've stockpiled as many good players as they can find. DEPTH is so critical in a game where injuries are so frequent.

The Bears have a history of letting players go they should have kept around--I'm afraid this is going to be just another sad chapter in Bears personnel decisions. I hope they wise up in time. Otherwise this will be the 2d time a great player named Brown was cut--and how much was Mike Brown missed last year? Let's hope history isn't about to repeat itself....

  • In reply to dive2deep:

Sadly, history repeats itself all too often around the bears, D2D. I've always felt that the team that wins the super bowl is the team with the best depth, not who has the best starters.

    * We have no backup/mentor for Cutler. He goes down, season over.

    * I have seen enough of HH to safely say we have no backup for Urlacher. Literally. Roach and Williams and everyone else on the roster are too small to replace Brian.

    * If Shabba goes down we have no wide receivers that can do what WRs should be able to do and that's get up into the air and grab the ball.

    * Absolutely no depth amongst the defensive backs. We haven't even got quality starters at safety.

    * Ditto the offensive line - no depth and poor quality players already starting.

Not this year guys, not this year ......

  • In reply to Scala:

Not too late to change the outlook my Portugese Bear, hope springs eternal. I'm just praying Atogwe was always in their sights ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, very grounded and realistic assessment. All I'm saying is that I will not give Torpedo cuddo's until he deserves it. Last year he made way too many bad throws, bad O-line or not. I will give him credit when credit is due. I know we all want to believe that he is our football savior but I will continue to be realistic concerning his past performance.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Oh I hear that, Trac. There's only so long we can say "Give him time" before the calls for McNabb as his veteran 'backup'. If he doesn't learn to throw that thing away then it's just not going to work.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

He did almost totally shit the bed though ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

irish..thanks for the info!!! If that is his hit..then I say no! I just want a O-line that can protect or Quarterback and block to get double duece and CT (Chester Cheetah).. yeah I coined that!!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Lobo, was LS & JA playing checkers when they gave up Ginnies undies for JC Torpedo and Peppers?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    trac..A LOUD NO!!!

I think they lucked into JC & JP ..I almost place this like the 70's when Sweetness was all by himself (noah Jackson..remember him?). It was not until we brought in other players around him that we saw this team move forward. JC's biggest problem is the cast around him ( yes. does he need a real coach !!a sounding yes. and he needs to work on mechanics, but when you are running for your life..mechanics get thrown out you are in survival mode..plain and simple!)..We hit one out of the park once and then can't get on base to score to more points.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

7-9 doesn't buy us squat. First year or not. Torpedo man will have another chance this year and I do expect him to improve. The Queens game at the end of the season gave me allot of hope that he can be the man. I just want to see consistency from him. I know he has the skills, just need to see him make the right decisions a majority of the time.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

As it was happening though #1BF, I was wondering who we could have gotten for $120 Million ?

I would hope there's more cash on the way because we don't even have enough picks to draft a guard, a tackle, a receiver a free safety etc. It's only worthy of applause if they haven' finished FA acquisitions. With the acquisition of Peppers we have only swapped one DE for another (albeit a really good one), and let Wale walk. We've released Vasher and replaced him with a lesser player. We've paid a blocking tight end twelve times Olsen's salary, which will no doubt thrill the man. We hired a good RB, but not a banger. We still don't have a big receiver who can get YAC the way Brandon Marshall can. Possibly Shabba.

$120 million, but so far we have the same OL and same receivers as last year - and we know how that went.

  • They think, "Why can't we ever make it to the big dance". Don't think it goes any further than that Doc.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Pretty much Trac.

It's 75, sunny, and beautiful right now (was all weekend), but when football season comes around there

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Fan

You're right...this offseason will not be complete unless they add a PROVEN veteran safety. I guess I wasnt knowledgable enough to understand just how important that position is in our defense. I posted this already, but Briggs agrees...he flat out said we need a safety and went on to explain that the safety position is second in importance only to the "mike" Lb on our Defense.

Again, if moving Brown nets us a safety, fine, but just as a reminder its an uncapped year so we COULD have done both....although Im not gonna get greedy.

  • In reply to Dmband:

I am with you Bear brother. Lovie and Angelo both have publicy said how important the F-Safety position is, yet we havent done much yet. We havent even shown interest in anyone, other than Rolle, who was swept up quickly. I am probably being a dreamer here, but I think the Bears havent shown interest in anyone yet because they are waiting on Sharper. If the Bears are thinking of getting rid of Browns 5 mil salary, to sign Sharper, then this fan is ok with it. Sharper will probably want 5-6 mil on a 2-3 year deal. WE could front load his deal in this uncapped year, where we only pay Sharper 3 mil or less for the remaining year or two. He did play a similar defense in Minn, so he knows it, and would be a definite upgrade for us. We are going to be better up front already with getting pressure, that will help too. There was mutual interest between the two parties. I would think Sharper would be pumped to go against former teams in the Vikes & Packers. But I could be dreaming again, like I have in the past, you know, wishful thinking. My dream signing would have to be Atogwe, as he fits our defense great. He is an agressive ball hawk, like Lovie wants. He had like 18 picks and 16 fumbles in the last 4 years, not bad. But apparently the Bears have shown no interest, WHY? I hope they have a plan, there is still time and players that will come available. I just hope they dont stop this great start they have made this offseason. Lets finish this and add the few more players we need, we do have an uncapped year and a wealthy franchise! Remember "We are in it to Win it"!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Hey BF, I would like to think that maybe they have Atogwe foremost in their minds, at least that is my hope. What bothers me about Sharper is his knee, we already have one player with a bad knee situation (maybe more I'm not sure) and another with a wrist that just came off injury and hopefully he doesn't have any issues with it. Sucks getting old cause things don't heal like they do when you younger.

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

I am totally with you, I really hope Atogwe is in their plans!! Sharpers knee scope was no big deal, they just cleaned it out, he will be better for it! He will be full strength by training camp.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Hey coach if you were a sexual act you would be a cum seeking vacuum, of the male perspective!! You spend waay too much time talking about hand jobs and such. You kind of freak me out as I am homophobic! Maybe you should stay in the closet!! Just Sayin!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Hey Hitlers Mustache: Who is #16 Bearfan? I have never seen that name posted. I have seen #1 Bear Fan, which I go by. You obviously have some twisted sexual issues. Sorry, but I am not into your back handed stroking of yourself. YUUK, keep that to yourself. You kind of freak me out with your sexual, masturbating escapades. I dont go there, I am straight, so you might want to find a new boy that relates to you, like Mad Max!! I have women take care of my needs, but thanks anyway!

    Gang savages I tell you!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    Couple thoughts:

    1. This years draft is extremely deep. Especially on defense. And they have extended the draft an extra day which gives teams more time to evaluate players. This draft will truly show if Angelo, Inc. can draft in the later rounds and really unearth a gem.

    2. Do I wish we had more picks? Of coarse I do you poo flinging, pill popping, hand-job, Alex Brown Old School Back-hands! Do I regret the Jay Cutler trade? Hell No! I've been waiting for this my whole life. Interceptions and all. He's like a young steed and with the proper trainer, he can win the Triple Crown. Patience...

    3. The Patriots have sent officials to Monday's Oklahoma Pro Day to check out TE Jermaine Gresham. The Patriots are clearly in the market for a TE who can catch. We have that guy. Do I want the Bears to trade Olsen, Hell no! If the Bears won't go out a get a #1 WR...I want complete pandemonium out on that field with Martz's new scheme. I want miss matches so one of our speed demons can get open 57 yard down field.

    4. Jared Gaither is on the trade block and could be had for a 2nd round pick of possible trade. You want to break up the heart of this team Angelo you goon? Then at least make an attempt at this guy, not some washed up has-been from the Sea Pigeons who hasn't blocked for a decent RB in 5 years.

  • In reply to Joseph:

    1. Joe, let out that breath or you'll surely die lad.

    2. +1

    3. Hells yes, they've already traded for Crumpler. Trade his girly little (big) ass! Get us a 2nd or one of their 9 guards

    4. Looks like he's a tackle Joe... and I damn well can't find anywhere if he's a left or right tackle. It says that they may move

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I agree with MB, relax Joe, or you are going to have a heart attack!! Cutler was a great pick-up, this fan has no problems with that move! I have been around long enough to see my share of Mediocre to total bust's at Q.B. It is totally Sick, but you have to go all the way back to Sid Luckman for the Bears, thats just crazy. McMahon did OK, but was not a franchise Q.B. Long time Bear fans know what I mean. Not to mention fans that know the history of the Bears as well. The amount of Q.B's that have come through here is ridiculous!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Flag on the play #1BF ! Fifteen yards, blasphemy of James Robert. Automatic first down !

Hired as a franchise QB and delivered as a franchise QB. Never saw a tougher guy or saw such a winning mentality play the position, never knew when he was beat and made his team beter than they were. He starts over Peyton Manning for me every time. He was willing to put his body on the line for his team-mates unlike the show-pony QBs of the NFL. I mean the guy turned up at the White House as a Packer in a Bear Jersey. Legend!

Copy out the following article 100 times BF#1!

    http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2009/5/22/883297/the-greatness-of-jim-mcmahon

  • In reply to Joseph:

Regarding (1.) we could potentially do quite well if we had three picks in the third round. If Jerry can't get at least two third round picks then we're banjaxed.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Hey Coach: Sorry for my negative responses, regardless of how you feel about me. I have to admit, I am kind of gun shy on this site. All I do is talk about the Bears, news, opinions ect. But for some reason which I dont understand, Handfuls of posters have taken shots at me, it is kind of frustrating. Personal Misery, insecurity, I dont know what it is with these people, as I dont seek out people and respond negatively towards them. I only respond harshly when confronted! So I dont see why I deserve that type of treatment or responses. Maybe you were just being cool & having fun, with no harm intended, but I am a bit gun shy. So Sorry for the Harsh response. We are all Bear fans, and have the same goals of Winning. GO BEARS!!

Ahhhhh... The Spy Who Loved Me.

My first Bond, shown to my bro and I by my dad at a relatively young age. It had everything, a bad ass spy, beautiful women, lotuses that fucking drove under fucking water, a huge dude with steal teeth, and sharks with fricking laserbeams on their heads (almost).

"Shame... all those feathers and he still can't fly."

And although I came to love Sean Connery as the ultimate and best bond (by far), I'll never forget that first introduction to 007. I had to boycott the bronson and dalton years though, what a fucking atrocity that was. Best action/spy movie series in the history of man

I will preface this by saying I have a pretty decent understanding of contracts and business in general. HOWEVER, there is nothing that pisses me off more, in sports than a guy that holds out...So Daniel Manning isnt happy with his contract...well guess what buddy? You signed the fucking thing didnt you? Was there a gun to your head at the time? Were you drunk? Were you under the age of 18 withou the consent of a legal guardian?

So guys sign a contract and say, "I will accept these terms...unless Im better...in which case I want more money".

Great, well if you suck, how about we re-negotiate that contract down...

    Ridiculous.

It's no different than going in and asking your boss for a raise is it? I asked my boss for a raise and I was told that there was no increase in the cost of living index, so therefore no raise. What I wanna know is why the people who made this decision needed a $3000 per month increase to cover the cost of doing their jobs when the cost of living index didn't reflect a raise for us. It's nice when your the one who makes the rules.

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish: Apparently Jennings is a good nickle back option & that is why the Bears picked him up, not so much for C.B. Lovie wants to move Manning again and use him at Strong Safety now?? Although Manning holding out is curious, as he has done nothing to deserve status! I would bench his ass for holding out and make him start from the bottom again.

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

    1. Ayuh. And there'd better be a large receiver in there for us Jerry.

    2. All praise and thanks for the arrival of baby Jay. We love you Jay.

    3. Olsen is actually becoming pretty important given the dwarven stature of our receivers. Although I'd prefer to see Davis as #1 (assuming they're going to airlock Dez Clarke) he's two inches taller and has heart.

    4. Jared Gaither - yes. Get Frank OMG as far away from the OL as possible. You can't tell me a guy that sucked that badly at guard will suddenly move to RT and become a consumate blocker. You're a good blocker or you're not. Get stuffed Frank.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

I don't see them as playing the same sport ... and Pep did it all as a marked man.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

I couldn't agree more about how important that stat is cause its not that AB is as good as Peppers, he's not close obviously, but having both of them on the same team would go a long ways towards making the Bears D line virtually unstoppable and if Tommie Harris was to play even a little better, or closer to what he is supposed to be like, the Bears would be completely DOMINANT, My question is why the hell don't the so called powers that be see that too. This is my daily dilemma in life. How sad!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Goddam, I don't visit the site for one weekend and all hell breaks loose on here!

I counted 37 billable hours for counseling #16 bears fan. Get a fucking grip man! Talk to your counseler about all of that shit. Talk on this site is limited to football and handjobs.

MB, your vision was truly genious, and i'm honored to have been included.

Alex Brown - I love the guy, he's been one of my favorite players for years, but the fact of the matter is that he's just simply not that good of a player. I don't see us being noticably better or worse with him or izzy on the side opposite of jalepeno

I feel a lot better about the team we're bringing to camp this year than i did last year, and we haven't even drafted yet.

Bear out with your ball hair out.

  • Vasher lost something when he got injured. Don't think a change of scenery will change that Murph.

  • I hear you on Columbo. Vasher needs speed though and the last couple of times I saw him play he looked like both legs were tied together.

  • That's why I don't want the guy here. What is he doing hiring retreads ?

  • Yeah, I know Murph, but I've always had a lot of respect for the guy and I think all of us would MUCH rather see rosensagencarnationdaisy or Tarvis back there, no?

Oh, and I have two words for all you guys... Strateegery: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/news/story?id=5040647

"Maybe the best thing for Brown, 30, was the Bears' plans becoming public, since it'll be more difficult for the organization to trade the defensive end now that all 31 NFL teams know he could be available for nothing if they wait until his release."

    Jebus christo,

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Well said MB, You Speak the Truth. How do you think Angelo & Company would do on the wonderlic test, ha,ha,ha? If we kick Ass this year and return to form, great! But if we dont we will get our new management next year(Cowher is waiting).

I read that Dallas is thinking strongly about releasing L.T Flozell Adams. Not sure if he would add some value to us as a stop gap for a year or two, while we bring along younger players. I am not sure if he can play different positions on the O-Line or not. Just a thought as I eagerly await help on the O-Line and of course at F-Safety!

I was reading where one of the needs the Rams have is at D.E. We should try to work something out with Alex Brown in a trade for Atogwe, even if we have to throw in a draft pick maybe a 5th rd as well. I am probably dreaming here, but it sounds good to me, LOL.

I have heard the trade rumors involving McNabb. I think the Eagles would be stupid to not start him this season & trade him. Their playoff window is still open and he knows this team so well. I think changing Q.B's this year will ruin their playoff chances, just my opinion of course. By the way, I am OK with the Eagles making bad decisions that hurt them though. As far as McNabb going to the Vikes, I dont care, he is no better than Favre. It seems like the Raiders are hot & heavy for him though. I did read where Mcnabb did say he would prefer the Vikes, but the Vikes are showing very little interest right now.

    New thread?

    Says who?

I submit that starting a new thread is akin to calling a new play in the huddle and there is a time-honored, irrefutable, football commandment:

Only ONE guy is allowed to call the plays in the huddle.

I believe that, around these parts, that guy is known as
    Jeff Hughes. AKA, The Blogfather.

It is not the fault of The Blogfather that the Bears haven't dazzled or stunned us with a brilliant or surprising signing lately, nor have they inserted their foot in their face anew to incur our wrath, either, so just relax.

I post this not necessarily as a criticism of anyone in particular, but merely as a friendly reminder.

I think we've been blessed with the moves this team has made thus far good or bad in addition to having a place to vent our frustrations.

So I'm watching Slaphot (1977) last night, downloaded it, hadn't seen it since I was a kid - the following were noted :

    1. Paul Newman was a good looking man.

    2. They called the Carlson brothers 'The Hanson brothers' for the movie. One brother couldn't do the movie because he got a hockey contract, and was replaced by a guy called Dave Hanson in real life. Go figure.

    3. Melinda Dillon had great tits. Great. Tits.

    4. It was a great script, funny as, and written by a woman (Nancy Dowd). She invented Quahog from Family Guy because he's on this team.

    5. The Charlestown Chiefs are bit too like the Chicago Bears ....

So Reg Dunlop (Newman) hears that the hockey team he plays for will soon be defunct. There is no will to win, the players don't care because they think they're all off to Florida as a new team, no toughness, and they spiral into loserdom. Then he brings in the Hanson brothers - three Stephen Kings on PCP. Blood on the ice, they start to win. Dunlop eventually tracks down the owner who seems to care not a jot about the fortunes of their team. A woman. Couldn't care less about hockey or winning, the team is her own personal tax write-off. Aging, unsuccessful player-coach Dunlop was hired exactly so they wouldn't win, just keep the charade going. Ring a bell ?

The National anthem scene at the end of the first clip has just entered my top ten. We need the Hanson brothers on the Bears. More Butkus, less Hillenmeyer.

For Bear fans' general feelings on the front office, and all humans alike, Peter Finch's words are perhaps more relevant than ever. Get up out of your chairs now and go to the window ...

  • Doc, go crazy tonight. Happy bday.

  • Happy Birthday Doc: I am with you on wanting some good news, Atogwe would be the icing on the cake!! Sweet. I hate waiting, the suspense is killing me. A new thread would be nice too.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    Here, here. Rage it Doc!

  • Murph, I agree, I dont see McNabb being better than Favre is for the Vikes right now. Actually with the year Favre had last year, it would be tough to beat, even by Favre himself. In my opinion there is No Way Favre will have as good a season as he did last year. He is going to be a punching bag target all year, like the Saints did to him last year! I am sure Peppers will welcome Favre with "Open Arms", LOL.

  • Damn it! I realized that after I wrote it Doc, but figured you wouldn't read it all the way up there.

I stand corrected, and it looks like I'm the one who deserves the false start and illegal procedure flags Doc.

  • Happy b day Doc...you SOB.

  • I know Doc, I know. But jebus, it's like a terrible car wreck. It really is.

BTW, I saw how you did that... with 'brow'.

Ok, ok, I'll stop. Couldn't resist on your Bday.

Twelve bucks ! Definitely a better buy than the Aston Martin for $20. I have no idea how much they cost back then. Stormtroopers were expensive, cop shows and Evil Knievel ruled - that's all I know about the seventies.

  • Happy Birfday Professor Nitty!

Who starts opposite Jalepeno? Izzy or Twiggy Anderson? Maybe Henry Melton makes an appearance?

  • Doc, I'm a dumbass. I didn't even freakin remember the brow thing and totally whiffed on your whitty pun (I see how you did that).

    Well done, 20 points.

...aaaand, 10 demerits for me. Man, rough day on the blog for me today.

  • Yep. Count your blessings. Can you imagine finding your wedding photo on a page dedicated to people who shouldn't reproduce ? It would be almost too cruel to point it out to your wife. Heh.

  • Happy birthday Doc, Atogwe is in the pipeline. We effing hope. Enjoy, and remember, Tequila is not your friend ...
