Peppers Deal "Imminent"

Read the full story on PFT.

Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Peppers is taking a physical in Chicago and a signing is imminent.

The only question left is how much money Peppers will earn.  Hayes hears that Peppers will earn $12-14 million-per-year over six years, which is actually less than we imagined.

It's all about the structure.  We'd be surprised if Peppers doesn't get the most guaranteed money for a defender in league history.

  • My 1st first on the first day of free agency!

  • Repost from last thread:

Any chance hester + Olsen package gets us a 1st rd. pick?

  • Chester is a done deal now...

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/03/bears-agree-to-terms-with-rb-chester-taylor.html

  • Well damn, I've been harping on Chester Taylor for a while. Never thought they'd actually do it. Has Satan called about getting a toboggan down there yet?

  • I know it's not the Bears but it does affect them...

Williams to Detroit - they keep building that that Defense. Bears not the only movers in the free agent market today:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/10187/browns-complete-corey-williams-deal

I know they're still the Lions, but they are improving their team and I don't like that.

  • In reply to Sarcastiholic:

I think the Lions also picked up DE Kyle Vanden Bosch out of TEN. Solid signing.

  • In reply to Shady:

Exactly - Williams and Vanden Bosch plus they could take Suh w/ the 2nd pick if the Rams go QB

That adds up to a new kind of D for Detroit - don't like it

  • In reply to Sarcastiholic:

Forgot about Suh. Lobo's right, we need two big guards yesterday, because that man will be our problem twice a year, and we're supposed to beat the Lions.

  • In reply to Shady:

Well fella's, The 2010 Bears just got whole lot better.

    Great fucking day!

We should compete for the division next year.

  • In reply to Shady:

I'll bet anyone a Steak Dinner Chester Taylor is our starting rb by game 5 next year.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Gonna give it 'em in the ass with that Navy and Orange stinger, Coach?

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Who wants Pepper on their Butter?

Two players without heart. Plus Anthony Adams and Alex Brown. Behind two broken LBs (Pisa, Babypapa) and one partially repaired one (Briggs). With a guy at Strong Safety named Danieal.

I hate to be a sour puss, but I don't like this signing. Pursue Kampmann and Marshall instead.

Who thinks Rod "0-16" Marinara Sauce is going to be able to command Pepper Pothead's attention?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Kampann coming off a serious knee injury. Haven't we had enough of those guys? Peppers may not be worth the dough but he did avg 10 sacks/year for the last 8 years. I really don't care about the money. It's not mine and I never go to games.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to gpldan:

I see what your saying...but you still got to give it up to the Bears for actually doing something. Peppers will command a double team every single play and chester taylor could be our starting running back this year...in the mold of Marshal Faulk for Martz. Bears probably arnt done yet...they could trade Olsen for a 2nd rounder and then trade that 2nd rounder for a guy like Boldin or maybe even Marshall.....MORE TO COME, STAY TUNED BEARS FANS!

  • In reply to gpldan:

Hey give credit where credit is due. I am actually impressed with the Bears and their aggressiveness, regardless of the reasons, it makes Da Bears a much better team. Taylor is a done deal at 12.5 mil over 4 years, with 7 mil guaranteed in the first year. Peppers is looking at a 6 yr 72 mil contract, with 40-45 mil in the first three years. They are just pending physicals apparently. What a great 1st day, Kudos to the Bears, Plus they surprised with the Cutler signing. Lets keep it rolling and win a damn championship already.. We need to target free safety next. I think Rolle has priced himself out, although the Bears did offer him a contract. Sharper would be fine, but he also is seeking too much $$. Possibly Ryan Clark of Steelers or Atogwe of the Rams are possibilities. Plus we need help on the o-line,where if not free agency we could target in the draft along with a young free safty. Maybe a trade somewhere could earn us a better draft pick as well, just sayin. GO BEARS!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

If Forte looks like he did last year, Taylor with be the starter in game 1.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Is that a wager of food Coach, or some humiliating sexual position ?

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    The waiting continues ...

Enjoy the buzz, but credit is not due to Angelo/Smith just yet. Let's not get our perception twisted by some great signings. Let's add those signings to a long list of bad ones, and the steady dismantling of a super bowl team. As with the Cutler deal, all signings were a no-brainer if you're willing to stump up the cash. It makes me wonder if they actually planned this year's failure. Had we scraped into the playoffs we'd have to lose a free agent for every one we signed, with the uncapped year the front office knew they could sign who they wanted if Ginny gave the go ahead (or at least 30% of it). This is hand that was forced, but it's not over. Receiver. Free safety. Guard. None of those have arrived yet and two are on offense. Last year we got Jay but no receiver for him to throw to. This year we have Chester and the same line as last year - do we expect different results ? The line, Jerry, the line ....

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

And we've only really got one pick. We can't say "and now get a free safety ... and then get a guard ...and then ..." like Bill Gate's kid in a candy store. We have a 3rd round pick. It's one or the other. Ryan Clark/Sharper/Atogwe are still out there. I'd like to see us draft a stud next year. The best of the best. I'll take a retread until then - but the line needs fresh cement. Can't wait to kick Minnesota's ass next year. Twice. Go Bears !!!

  • In reply to Sarcastiholic:

We should sign Shaun Rogers away from the lions ...
