Julius Peppers

Lovie flew to Carolina yesterday and has brought Peppers back with him today.  From all reports, Peppers should be a Bear.  The Pats and Eagles are also still in play, if only cosmetically.  But Adam Schefter just said on Sportscenter, "Barring a complete breakdown, Peppers will sign this afternoon."
Chester Taylor
Reports are surfacing that the Bears are willing to guarantee Chester Taylor $8 million (I know, I'm shocked too.)  The reports must be serious because PFT is reporting that the Vikings are now fighting to keep the back in purple.
One thing must be stated.  If these two deals happen, we all need to back off the "cheap McCaskey" label.  These would be two terrific, expensive signings and our organization is finally showing a desire to do what is necessary to build a champion.

  • First ?

  • first!?

  • fifth?!

  • Come on Bears!!! Sign Peppers and CT!!!

  • Sweet. Welcome to Chicago Manu, Julius and Chester ? Could this happen ? The McCaskeys lost their cheap tag when they signed Urlacher, Vasher, harris etc. but we'll see how this turns out. We'd still need a #1 WR, FS and a guard or two.

  • Well -- I'll believe it when the fat lady signs.

  • Did we tamper with Julius Peppers ?

  • IS this one of Lovie's red flag challenge moments when he burns two time outs. Has he burned Peppers ? Should he have been talking to Peppers at the combine ?

  • Of course the Bears tampered with Peppers, but I don't think they get into trouble unless the Panthers file a claim or something.

Where are you guys following for the most up-to-the-minute news on the Internet? PFT?

If they sign Peppers alone then the cheapskate talk stops.

  • In reply to Perno:

Kemoeatu has been released by the Panthers too. 345 lbs, 6'5, 31 yrs old.

Brown, Kemo ! Butter! Peppers !

  • In reply to Perno:

    Jeff-

Thats awesome. I was thinking the EXACT same thing regarding the fans (including myself) have to now STFU regarding cheapness...especially when you factor in the Cutler deal/extension.

I feel like this is Bizarro world or something...the Bears actually acting like a big market ballsy club....the world really is ending..2012 is a reality!!

  • In reply to Perno:

hahahahah Doc I posted that before reading your reference to 2012...

  • In reply to Perno:

The tampering charge is a hard one to prove up. The Redskins were exonerated for allegedly dealing w/ Haynesworth last year before FA. Even if the case was proven (which it won't be), we wouldn't have to worry about the penalty b/c we have no picks anyways.

  • In reply to Perno:

If we want Marshall, and decide that the OL and FS positions are "pretty well set" - why not toss Olsen and Hester to the wolves for a 1st round pick... The two combined should do it, and as far as I can tell, we could do without them.

  • In reply to Perno:

sun times reporting he signed and a deal with CT is imminent

    Holy Crap guys

  • In reply to Perno:

    "he" being peppers

  • In reply to Perno:

RT @Adam_Schefter: Chester Taylor reaches agreement with Bears on a four-year, $12.5 million deal that includes $7 million gtd in year one.

    two down, 1 to go......

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Looks like starter money to me. I wonder how Matt "football is my" Forte will react.

  • In reply to Shady:

He needs to buck up this year and I'm happy we're getting a legitimate starter to boost his game. What I like is both are very versatile backs and can run, catch and block.

  • In reply to Shady:

RT @Adam_Schefter: The Chicago whopper: Julius Peppers' contract in Chicago is expected to pay him roughly $40 million in the deal's first three years.

    (gulp). that's a lot of $$$$.

  • In reply to Shady:

Throwing the triple first flag on our wiskey loving friend.

  • In reply to Shady:

WOOOOO Bears are doing something Finally! Now get me a stud WR!!! If all the Cardinals want for Boldin is a 2nd or 3rd round pick....I would trade them Olsen! A lot of money for Peppers but at least they are trying.

  • In reply to Perno:

Physicals currently being conducted. Holy shit, Peppperrrssssss equals Preeeesssssuuuurreeeeeeee! He is going to make Afalava a pro-bowler!

  • Don't worry about tampering. It's something that no one would care about if Florio wasn't obsessed with it at PFT.

  • "...our organization is finally showing a desire to do what is necessary to build a champion."

Yeah, or showing a desire to do what is necessary to keep their jobs.

  • Peppers will record 15 sacks, Butter will play like he did in '05 - Urlacher will look like his fast self, Briggs will go to another pro Bowl. Chester Taylor and Forte will each rush for 1000 yards, JC will develop mad Montana-Rice chemistry with Shabba Dabba.

We will go to the Super Bowl and face the Patties AGAIN. We sack Brady, knocking him out of the game and the NFL, Da Coach's Mustache puts his tounge down Gisselle Bunchen's throat, Ditka proclaims Lovie as the true greatest coach who ever lived after a perfect season.

Then, the Earth's crust opens up and sucks up Soldier's Field and Grant Park during the parade and we all die a fiery death, except Tom Cruise saves Mayor Daley because "he was the only person who could help"

    Get ready....
