Use Your Delusion

So the Chicago Bears send their fans an invoice for season tickets and Ted Phillips uses it as an opportunity to once again display the fact that the organization has a president who knows very little about the sport.

"The need to bring in new ideas, energy and passion has never been more
apparent, and in that regard, the addition of Mike Martz as offensive
coordinator and the promotion of Rod Marinelli to defensive coordinator
bring a renewed focus on winning from two of the most well respected
and intelligent coaches in the NFL."

Look, I think Mike Martz is going to make the Bears offense far more interesting.  But Teddy Ballgame and the rest of the folks working at Halas Hall need to refrain from using Rod Marinelli's promotion as a sign of good things to come.  The 2010 defensive unit was the worst in my lifetime and the response to that must be upgrades in personnel.  If you want fans to share in your moronic optimism, show us Julius Peppers.  Not Rod Marinelli.

In the meanwhile, say nothing.  Write nothing.

our front office is really pissing me off. i am a born Bears fan and it is insulting when these guys talk like politicians. like they are trying to talk us into the Bears being something other than what we all see them to be on the field. I love our team and always will but for the first time in my life as a fan (i'm 28) i feel like we are losing our Bear identity. this is a big offseason for us & i personally don't think max contract players are gonna do it.

really enjoy the blog gentlemen...glad to be in

You guys think the Rams will take Clausen ? I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that Mr. Suh might have Cutler in his sights twice a year .....

    Youtube Ndamukong Suh and enjoy.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    are you serious?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, no way the Rams tak Clausen. He's not deserving of the #1 pick in my book. Even the Rams know that. Rest easy my friend.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

He also has had chronic turf toe for a while, not good.

As an aside, I am predicting that my boy Taylor Mays is going to move way up the draft after a epic showing at the combine this weekend. Too fucking bad we'll never have a shot in hell at getting even close to him.... damn you Jerry Angelo. Damn you!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, it will either be Suh or McCoy (Gerald not Colt). We're going to have to deal with a bad ass DT either way, they are both beeeeeaaaaasts.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB.. He fits right in the LovieFest in Chicago.. He and Butter can do rock, paper, scissors to see who's going to show up for which game..and then punch someone in the head..DUH!!???

This is why I want Kampman over Peppers.. two times a year agaisnt your previous team... I said it before I will say it again "RIVAL". Putting Rodgers on his ass will be his quest... at least twice a year and then he can go after CAPN' VIQUEEN.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You're right MB, lets just keep Mark Anderson and Wale. Just sayin, thats the flip side.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Talk about friendly fire.

I wasn't saying don't take either of them Trac, if you look back a couple strings I was advocating Kampman over Peppers. Kampman might not be nearly as disruptive or as much of a natural athlete, but he's damn well for sure a harder worker with much more passion and drive, and he'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Money saved that can be spent on things liiiiike

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Lovie wants a safety more than anything else. I say DE is more important. Pressure on the quarterback automatically makes your secondary better. Bring in Peppers and watch Afalava become a pro-bowler.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

We can get both if, 1. we're smart about it and, 2. we're willing to spend the cash Crown.

Looks like #2 is could be possible, unfortunately #1 is pretty much off the table with this group. Cross your fingers.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Hey Crown, the article did mention Kerry Rhodes/Jets, what do you think about him? Rolle would be good if we can get him, just wondering about Rhodes in case he's the fall back guy.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Speaking of delusion...

Other Lovie Smith comments from the combine:

--He still thinks Hester is a No. 1 receiver.

--He made clear that Chris Williams will be the team's left tackle. Also said a decision on Orlando Pace could come sooner than later.

--He said Jay Cutler has talked to Kurt Warner about playing in Mike Martz's offense.

--He doesn't sound like he's in the market for a veteran receiver. Said receiver "may be the deepest position" on his team.

--"We need to improve at safety," Smith said. "I haven't been pleased with our production." He noted safeties only had one pick.

--Lovie on three other former NFL coaches on his staff. "That's a great thing."

--Lovie said Rod Marinelli will call the defensive plays. Smith handled that last season.

--On free agent defensive ends: "We'll look at everyone."

--He said Martz will bring a "big new dimension to our offense."

--"When you're 7-9, you need to make changes. (But) our core is solid."

Hey Custom. You and Lobo are all about the fullback huh?

I don't get it to be honest. I'd much rather get rid of the FB position all together (since it's pretty much been useless with the personnel we've had - McKie is no Matt Suey), and bring in a second 'real' back instead. Have a Matty/Bell/C.Taylor type rotation rather than keep the old, antiquated FB position. If we

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB..Dude!? As for the FB yeah I suggested we get a different Back other than McFlee.. he is as useless as at a tit on a bull. But that's another post..
but if you look back at old posts my big concern is O-Line... TWO!!!Gaurds!!! -D-Line DE(kampman)and then D-Backs-rolle/sharper. thats my wish list.

But back to the FB... yeah the modern offense does not use the FB as the past. no doubt. but I would love to have a pounder for those 1-yarders and have someone with meat on them at the goal line. Rather than watch Double Duece A. Get Bitch Slapped as he has done or B. FUMBLE THE FU!@$#ING ROCK!!!

I beleive we get Forte on the edge and he's gone!!
I really beleive he was hurt worse than Bears Management expressed. I think we need to have a one two punch that gives us fresh legs for 22 in December..you had suggested WP I said I like it..I have issues expecting one back to carry the load.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Lobo, wasn't a shot at you man, I'm just personally not a FB guy (for the NFL). I think it's an outdated concept that doesn't fit with today's elite passing games - which i think we're moving towards.

I think you want a Weaver, not a Lorenzo Neil right? I get it. I'd just personally rather have another great runner/pass catcher instead and leave the blocking to the oline and someone other than olsen. (Take that olsen man crush lovers!)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Gotta watch out for that friendly fire MB. lol.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac.. love the friendly fire ..and you know what!! I eat it up .. I would rather have a continued heated discussion and disagree..Why? because I know all you blogster's are about improving our team. Bottom line I have more respect for each and everyone one of you than I do for the Bears Management on down. If you can show me something that's going to change my mind and improve this team.. I'm all over it..

    BEAR DOWN!!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

You've got my vote for GM Lobo !

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB..I didn't take it personal bro..I just see Double Duece getting to many hits and watching as we get into December running out of gas. maybe that's more of my issue with having a multiple backs as a one-two I'd like to see 22 have fresh legs and bursting through our line (WITH TWO NEW GAURDS)for the month of December when we are going for the SB.

and MB..now you got me.. lol on the e-trade commercials.. I'm hooked..especially the outtakes.. and the suprised looked one. LOL!!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

there you go Lobo, there you go.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

OH SHIT! That one made me laugh. Rodgers is the truth. He is the prototypical QB. Has the brain Like Peyton & Brees with a cannon like Brady, but has wheels unlike the others. Rodgers WILL win a Super Bowl or 2. Just watch. He is the real deal unlike the malcontent known as Cutler. You really think I wish Favre was still a Packer? Favre was the major reason the Vikes went as far as the did, BUT he was also the reason the Vikes didn't go to the bowl. He has ended 2 different teams seasons in the last 3 years with TERRIBLE picks. 2 of those in crunch time in title games & the other costing his team divisional title & playoff spot. So again, you really think I want Favre when I can have Rodgers who doesn't turn the the ball over & is almost considered elite? Come on man, use your brain...

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

ended seasons for 3 different teams in the past 3 years... sorry for the typo...

Pack- OT NFC title game INT
Jets- 4th Q pick against the Dolpins

    Hey MMF..
I don't get it why do you post here? I mean are you just incapable of understanding that this says DA BEARS BLOG.. Or is it that you are a closet Bear Fan and your cow-tipping friends may get amd at you.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Keep reaching. It's quite comical to say the least. I say one thing small thing & you come up with that? Hilarious. You sir a scumbag of EPIC proportions.

In all seriousness though... When I read this blog there are some really good posters here, but you MB30SD are not one of them. Why is it that you post so much, but you rarely say anything worthwhile.

I think it's safe to say you are utterly useless other than being able to sling meaningless insults. What a punk bitch you are. Feel free to punch yourself in the face.

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

Also, didn't Al or one of the other guys already give you a link to a Packers blog a while back? Why don't you go there to be useless instead of wasting our space?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Where do you get this stuff from? Do yourself a favor & tone down the TV watching. It's rotting your already lacking brain. You really can't afford to lose anymore or you would be considered for 'Ringer' status.

On a serious note... There are some good posters here, know there stuff, but you got MB30SD who posts triple the amount of the rest, but NEVER saying anything worthwhile? Pick your game up, MB30SD.

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

If you win I'll never post again. What do you think?

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

Suckatansky, can you tell me why all the women in cheeseland look like their family tree doesn't fork?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

How can any of you be the least bit optimistic about next year when the Packers & Vikings are CLEARLY better than the bears? It must really suck to know that the Packers are LEAPS & BOUNDS ahead of the bears.

You guys better be praying to your Brian Urlacher fatheads that something magical happens, because the bears are currently among the laughing stock of the league. Oh how far they have fallen since that mighty Super Bowl losing team. It's arguable that the Lions future looks better than the bears. You know shits fucked up when that's the case. Pretty sad for the 2nd best postseason team in NFL history if you ask me, but to me it's hilarious considering how much of scumbags the majority of the bear fan base is.

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

  • I'm gonna break down Teddy Bears statement.
The need to bring in new ideas=we don't have a clue.
Energy=I'm worn out & can't take this crap anymoe.
Passion= This job sucks, you should try it sometime.
has never been more apparent=we can't fool you anymore.
Mike Martz as offensive Co-ordinator=Cuttys gonna earn his salary
Rod Marrenelli as defesive co-ordinator=boy he's gonna make Lovie look good.
Bring a renewed focus on winning=7 wins will look good next year.
Two of the most intellegent and well respected coaches=they helped Detroit get the first pick in the draft.

Oh and by the way, we need more money.

    Sincerely, Teddy Bear.

You never really know how these kids will end up making the leap, but he's cut like an NFL player and from what I saw his first two years.

  • Ha! It's a term of endearment Murph, it wasn

  • The Packers were 13-3 in '07, 6-10 in '08, & 11-5 in '09 with virtually the same exact roster those 3 years minus a couple players. You tell me which one of those 3 doesn't belong. I can give you some reasons for the 6-10 finish, but I tend to try to think of the future instead of past. Especially multiple years in the past. I'm not sure what you are arguing with anyway.

The Vikings swept the Pack, so what. They played better those 2 games & the Packers were still learning the new D while ironing out the O line problems. It was early in the year when the Vikes were playing their best football.

Ummmm The Packers swept the bears & there is no way around it. Make you're excuses as I did with the losses to the Vikings, but at the end of the day... The better team won both games.

Is Rodgers supposed to not have a mediocre games? Nice to see you've put him the deserved superstar level. Division games are always tough, you should know that. Regardless if a team is bad it's still tough because they mean so much.

& yes the Packers ARE LEAPS & BOUNDS ahead of the bears. They have the youngest team in the league. They have one of the best young QBs in the game, not an over hyped bum like Cutler. They have one of the best offenses in all of football. They have one of the best defenses in the game. A defense that almost ALL pundits said wouldn't work until year 2 at least, but was the BEST against the run, top 10 in points, 1st in TO forced, 2nd in total yardage.... Need I say more...

They are a couple of pieces away from being a legit Super Bowl contender. Can you say the same for the bears? I think not...

Face it the bears aren't even close to the level of the Packers. Could they win a game against the Packers, sure, division games are tough. I'm tending to think that the Packers WILL sweep the bears AGAIN this year en route to divisional title with a first round bye. I honestly believe that. Could turn the tables & say you honestly see the bears doing that? I think not...
