Bears Fire DePaul, Hiring Ruskell?

Per Florio:

In the wake of the Bears' abrupt decision to dump pro personnel
director Bobby DePaul, there's a strong feeling in league circles that
he'll be replaced by former Seahawks G.M. Tim Ruskell.  (Brad Biggs of
the Chicago Tribune has noted that "speculation" linking Ruskell to Chicago already has begun.)

One
source tells us that Ruskell recently had been calling G.M. Jerry
Angelo "daily."  The two men worked together in Tampa before Angelo was
hired by the Bears in 2001.

I believe the phrase that best sums this move up is "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic".  Everybody who currently works at Halas Hall is on a one-year lease and there's not a personnel man alive capable of having tremendous influence on 2010.

  • Sounds like JA might be hiring his replacement. You heard it here.

  • Sorry, doesn't count.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Ha! That was funny.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Why now?

I just don't get these guys man. The terms "despertate" and "clusterfuck" honestly comes to mind... often. (Trac, don't let your son read that)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

What, the egregious spelling of desperate, or the other part? :-)

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I assume the spelling is why he said it does not "count" in the first place.

  • My 10yr old Son cracks me up. He looked over my shoulder and said, "is someone telling you the Bears stink?".lol.

  • You missed first, Trac. Could have pounded that spelling ...

  • Bobby who ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Got to get Waddle off that list my Irish friend. Sure he took some hits and caught some passes, but was a slow small white guy who wouldn't make the practice squad if he played now. I'll take Curtis Conway or even Booker in his heyday over him any day of the week.

Does this move signify that we will be active in free agency this year? Wouldn't surprise me to see us throw everything we have at Mr Peppers. I don't think he cares if he plays in the 3-4 or the 4-3 as long as he gets his kings ranson he'll be a happy camper.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Man, I feel weird even having Willie on there. Mad love for Waddle. Small, slow, white, but if you threw him the ball hospital style, you knew he'd hold on. I can't remember against who, but it seemed like every play on one drive was a pass, and they were all aimed at him. He caught every one of them and got his clock cleaned on each occasion. Never saw a receiver get hammered like that. Dude was tough.

I'm loving all these names though. The Nineties is somewhat of a haze for me, although I know they happened and that football was palyed in those years. By the bye - Curtis Conway is married to Laila Ali and is height is not listed on Wiki. Tchoh !

Al..knew you would come out for the chairs and the band. The sad part about all of this is exactly as the blogfather said all we are doing is moving and shuffling. wow. how pathetic are we? very.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Irish-

I think I just blacked out imaging a backfield 1-2 punch of Sayers and Payton. I actually think the planet would implode if there was that perfect of a combination.

  • In reply to Dmband:

But Nagurski pounding the rock too ? Boom bada bing ! Man, we wouldn't need receivers. I forgot Cap Boso ! How could I forget The Cap ! Ditka's backup ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I find the timing curious. We are just over two weeks away from free agency. This seems sudden,I wonder what really happened? This doesnt seemed planned, since it is so late after the season. Maybe it is just me,but Ruskells resume doesnt impress me at all. The front office is scrambling in desperation to save their asses.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Ahhh,if our dreams only did come true, instead of the nightmares,LOL. Ruskell sure didnt seem to do the Seahawks any favors, they seemed to regress & get worse..

    Very insightful Fan. Good points.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Test. GO BEARS!

  • Don't read the article below(it's possibly the most boring article ever) - so I'll summarise.

In the three phases, offense is the dominant factor in winning consistently. Not being balanced in all three, or having a great defense and great ST. Having a rockin' offense. Traditionally, the Bears focus on the other two, they reckon. No, it *was* the most boring article ever ....
    http://sports.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/bearstalkradio/message/9373

  • So the old-timers who are UFAs, we just have to pay their wages right ? We don't have to offer their teams any compo ? We could just agree to Peppers or Chester Taylor's wage demands and they're Bears ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Problem is Peppers wants to be in a 3-4... and we're too cheap.

I wouldn't mind Richard Seymour and maybe Shaun Rogers on the DL, and Torry Holt made a strong case for himself on the radio this week. Those three guys and four new O-lineman and we're set, right?

  • In reply to the1tab:

I'd be up for Chester Taylor ... at least Minny wouldn't have him. We still need a real banger in the backfield. Maybe steal a safety off GB. Although I don't know why Manning isn't at FS and let Steltz /Payne/graham compete for nickel. He's supposed to be our most athletic player, get him on the field. Right now we're risking Manning and Knox on returns. Madness. Let Devin do what he likes doing.

  • In reply to the1tab:

Not sure what to make of it. The guy had a lot of hits and a lot of misses. Don't know jack about Ruskell. Going on past history, it looks like a move to cover their hiney's. Timing is odd to say the least. Unless Martz pulls off a miracle and the D can get off the field on 3rd downs, JA and Lovie will be down the road next year.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to the1tab:

Hey ho and the what-now .... Doug Plank, the man they named the best defense ever after ... was assistant defensive backs coach for the Jets this year ! WTF ? I think we need help in *our* backfield Dougie ... hello ... come home #46 you are sorely needed.

  • In reply to the1tab:

Anyhoo - since y'all are asleep, greatest all-time Bear team ? Hazy on corners, or did they all just suck ? Richardson wasn't great was he ? Is it Homerism to say we'd have the best DL, RBs, LBs and returning pair in history ?

QB: Jim McMahon. Clutch. A winner. Jimbo. Baby.
    FB: Bronko Nagurski.
HB : Gale Sayers/ Walter Payton. Beat that for a combo.
    OL : Bears 85 line.
WR : Willie Gault / Tom Waddle / Dennis Gentry

    P : We're not punting, dude.
    KR/PR : Devin Hester/Gale Sayers. Damn !

DL: Richard Dent, Tommie Harris, Steve McMichael, Dan Hampton. Ouch.
OLB: Wilber Marshall / Lance Briggs / Otis Wilson / Doug Buffone
ILB : Butkus, Singletary, Urlacher. Legends.
FS : Gary Fencik / Mike Brown
    SS: Doug Plank
CB : Charles Tillman / Leslie Frazier

    Coach : Da Coach
    GM : Jim Finks
    Seat Usher : Wavy Gravy
Owner : Irish Sweetness ... paging Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith ... the Honey Bears are back ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    no love for Sid Luckman?

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Luckman has the records ... but I have a man crush on Mac. Just loved that guy, never knew when he was beat. He was full of the stuff that can't be taught, and it was high praise that Steve Young said he learned the game of football riding the pine at BYU watching Jim. If I had to pick an all-time team and my life depended on winning the game, I'd have McMahon as my backup to Joe Cool. But yeah, I guess Sid makes the bench. Any room on there for Flutie ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I think Steve Rosenberg may have summed up my feelings today

Couple of nuggets from the sports talk radio circuit.

    1) There was a confrontation at Halas hall that led to the firing.
    2) They had someone on from Seatlle that basically said Ruskell shouldnt be anything more than a position coach, if that. Basically, he's terrible...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Aaah. Wonder if Mr. Urlacher was in or around that. I knew the guy had been escorted from the premises, but that's normal when someone gets fired ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    awesome.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

At least someone at Halas Hall has a pulse. Oops, I mean at least someone at Halas Hall had a pulse. Sounds like the only guy that gave a crap got fired.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I was reading where DePaul was the architect in getting Jay Cutler, Thomas Jones and John Tait. Evidently Depaul was on good terms with JA but him and Lovie may have hit the bricks from time to time. Evidently there was not a good relationship between Lovie and Depaul. Way to go Lovie, I wonder what else you can do to sink our ship,... oops, I mean team.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac.. you said it correct the first time SINK OUR SHIP!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

This is what happens when you don't fire an employee when they fail to do their job. They either walk out the door with half your merchandise or they bad mouth your company while cashing their paychecks. In a different way, LS and JA are ruining this team in a desperate bid to save their careers and the result will be the same.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Lovie "Chest Dump" Smith...

    AHAHAHAHAHA. GREAT nickname.

Watching all this unfold reminds me of the final 5 minutes of Scarface with Lovie playing the role of Al Pacino..

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I have said it once and I will say it again.. Look in the Dictionary under AssMunch!!! and I Guarantee you will see LIMP DICK LOVIE face!!! YOU SUCK LDL!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Boers and Berstein on the score radio reported that Lovie and DePaul got into a heated argument which lead directly to the firing. Boers has some sort of inside contact at Hallas hall that he'll refer to from time to time.

Funny Bernstien literally said the Bears were Rearranging the deck chairs. Wonder if those guys actually do read this blog for material. Seems a little too much of a coincidence.

It appears that Lovie "Chest Dump" Smith is getting power hungry. If he's going down its going to be from his own decisions, and no one elses. This is truly Lovehammers last stand. The players universally love the guy, I bet we catch lighting in a bottle and make the playoffs next year.

Cool Aid came early this year for da coach...

Irish, you still need a punter. You have to punt after being up 73-0. Just wouldn't be the sportsman like thing to do. Lol.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

How about a novelty punter ? The Fridge ! William Perry. Punter. It would be impossible to rough the kicker ! Thanks Trac - what a team !

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Funny you should say that. Kinda what I had in mind. The fridge would be great. Perfect.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

So this is how Rome burnt? One day you wake up and realize that the fire's out because there's nothing left to burn. Why couldn't hammertime just man up and resign?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Someone at the Trib recently pointed out that Darren Sharper was probably a "square peg" for the Bear's "round hole" defense.

The comparison provided was that in a highly regimented system during his year in Minnehaha (and similar to what he'd have to work in as a Bear), Sharper had one, count'em, ONE intercepton.

This year, in Greg Robinson's system that allowed Sharper to freelance, mightily?

    Nine INTs.

    NINE!

    N-I-N-E.

    NUEVE!

    One shy of TEN!

Mark Carrier (minus 1) in 1990!

    Rosey Taylor in 1963!

This included multiple "pick-6"s to put him within one of Rod Woodson's all-time mark for interceptionss returned for TDs.

So now, class, let us contemplate these two philosphies.

    Should we

    A) Play a highly restrictive form of pass defense that limits a Headed-For-The-Hall-Of-Fame ball hawk, like Darren Sharper, to ONE interception in a season?

    OR...

    B) MIGHT we be better off with a system that turns that kind of a lethal weapon loose for NINE interceptions and multiple defensive scores?

I can just hear the swarm of "B"s being selected here BUT I'm also sure the gang at Halas Hall is not studying these questions because, as we all know from Coach Lovie Smith,

    "Our scheme is good".

    and from Jerry Angelo,

    "We're pretty well set".

Pass the air sick bag, please.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

have McMahon be the punter. He claims he was very good at drop kick field goals but the coach never let him do it in a real game. im sure that can translate into punting

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

    That's legal isn't it ? A rugby style drop-kick - 3 pts ?

Now this 1 an done season mantra is a killer on the coaches to the players. So now Lovie must have demanded that he is going down let him go down with his guys streering the ship,All the BFF coaches he keeps hiring speaks volume to that.
Depaul shouldn't have been fired,I think they should have fired the

I'm down for da bears blog/game treunion Doc. I know of a polish deli that has the best beer brats and kraut a man can dream of. Man do I miss my Sundays, sports suck right now. The Bulls clearing cap space for next year, men wearing tight outfits and doilies flamboyently doing triple axles...who the fuck cares about curling? I've been sort of out of the NFL loop...What's up w/ Wilfork? Does anyone know if he's gonna re-sign w/ the Pats? MB-do you think Cromartie is done? I know his stats have been way down the last couple years, but that guy was special not too long ago and can't be that old. No way has he shrunk to the playing size of Vash the "Interceptor." I had a dream last night that I was at a party w/ Butter Harris. Tommie was dancing and all of a sudden he went down and re-tore his ACLs in both knees. I went to help him up, and as I grabbed him to lift him up, his legs severed and were laying on the ground. So fuckin weird I know.

  • Actually it was written to make clear this was Angelo's doing, not Lovies decision. That was made clear in a couple news articles I read. Not to stick up for lovie, just saying what they say happened,I have lost faith in Lovie & especially Angelo. I always believe blame should be left where it is due & deserved!!

  • Forrest Gump to Ass Munch,I love it,very funny,thanks for the laugh's!!

  • When I researched DePaul's numbers versus Ruskell's Numbers,it gets confusing. Ruskell's Resume is not Impressive lately, and you need look no Further than the Seahawks. Depaul has not been Super, but brought Cutler & has done more for his team than Ruskell has done of late for his teams!!! I am hardly a wizard, but cant understand this move, this late, unless some feet were stepped on.

Uncle Loveballs runs off a guy (from what I've heard) was a pretty good judge of talent. I'm really starting to get sick of how Coach Ballbag is allowed to get away with this type of behavior. Loveshit...Grambling needs a coach you douche bag...0-16 2010. Bears are where they are because they wanted to help NFL out on Rooney rule. Smith is trash. Plain and simple. Next..

Just saw Roy's new video on DePaul's firing. Apparently Lovie was pissed at DePaul ever since he engineered the Cutler deal ? Got into everyone's heads about how cool having Cutler would be(the memory of that April 2nd boner is still fresh in my pants). Lovie saw Cutler as Sexy Rexy Mk. II it seems, and was happy with his dinkin dunkin Kyle Orton. Also was apparently pissed off that his free agents were never started over draft picks. Ah well, only seven months to go ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

To be honest, if I wasn't on board 100 percent with the trade I'd be pissed as well. I know we have alot of cutty coolaid drinkers on this blog but I'm really cocerned about the liferafts we gave up for this cat given this teams current outlook.

Unfortunately, the only thing that CAN make that happen is an utterly disasterous season. I'm sad to say I want them to lose and lose big so this nightmare ends.

    Da Coach's Theory....

Lovie "Chestdump" Smith is fighting his ass off to land Peppers and DePaul told him he isn't worth the money long term. Lovie gets all fired up, Depaul starts going off about all of Lovies questionable personel moves in years past, his affinity for old washed up rams players and his overall level of douchebaggery. Lovie lowers the hammer and next thing you know, DePaul is gone. Jerry's in his office with his dork in his hand watching the whole thing go down.

Way to get rid of your main pro personnel guy 16 days before free agency begins. I think this was purely Angelo's move. With free agency only a few weeks away, someone better know what the Hell they are doing. After firing DePaul with only 16 days before free agency?? There Must be some major fireworks going off in the Bears front office.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I say No to Ruskell! His resume is not impressive at all. Just look at the Seahawks, who progressively got worse, even with a filthy rich owner backing him. I am sick of the buddy system, when it comes to personnel here, look outside the box Damn it! Gheez,At least it is almost Miller time,LOL.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

None of our guys have impressive resume's. You are what you are.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Agreed,"Aint it just a Bitch"! This next year will probably drag on and seem to last an eternity, lol. While us fans suffer through another year, waiting for change. Hell I am a Cubs fan too,LOL. I know a little about suffering,ha,ha.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Yep. We have no choice. It isn't an interview process... it's already a done deal. We're stuck with the guy, and the rest of these bafoons for the rest of the season.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Ravens sign Dante Stallworth... that's one WR off the market.

Jerseyflyer is a racist douche bag, just wanted to get that in before moving on.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I agree this is a cool & open web-site for all colors & creeds,Racist activity is Not tolerated. We are all Bear fans here, regardless what we look like,Hell I am green and I am from Mars,LOL. The Haters and attackers, need not apply here either, just my thoughts. So everyone just get along with everyone and just" Bear the Fuuhck Down!!

  • In reply to gpldan:

I guess I'd better look up the Rooney rule, cos this is going way over my head ....

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Man, I hope some secretary who wants to lose her job at Halas Hall was filming that shit on her mobile. I'd like to see that. Lovie losin' the cool, yessir. What are the chances she knows how to use Youtube though ?

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

I'd jettison Gholston, Delhomme and Portis on principle. Would anyone give those guys a job ? Have to ask why the Titans would release Mawae after what, a year after he left the Browns ? He'll be 39 next season I think.

  • I'll offer those up Murph - just had a steeler fan say that he would have admitted defeat on defensive tackles if Bill George was in instead of McMichael....

  • Amen.

  • gp, you thought Donte Stallworth was an option for the Bears?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Earl Bennett, Rashied Davis, Devin Lazy & Juaquin Iglesias ? Oh, we've got room for a real receiver ... and trade material. Sorry, from now on, Juaquin Iglesias is Ricky Martin. Just seeing his name hurts. Hearing that Brandon Rideau is playing Canadian Football is like losing a pet hamster.

  • I read on the Daily Herald that Ruskell could be hired as soon as this week! I just dont like this move, maybe it is just me. I was reading about Ruskell and learned in 92-96 with the Buc's he had 4 double digit losing seasons. To his credit the Bucs had 3 double digit winning seasons 97-01. Then he went on to Seattle. Just 1 of 6 draft picks since 06 has started,Kelly Jennings with a rubust 1 pick since then. In fact only 2 out of 22 draft picks by him in Seattle resulted in starters to date. He traded a 1st rd Pick for Deion Branch who has a whopping 44 catches for 559 yards in 4 years!! Or $40 Mil for houshmenzadeh who had 900 yards & 3-T.D's, signed for 4 years at 32 years old. I really dont like this Ruskell move and hope it is media fodder. But Knowing this organization lately,I am afraid to face the reality!! GO BEARS!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Signing Housh automatically invalidates the guy. But he'll only be here for a year, and only really has a third/fourth round pick to mess up. I don't see the big deal. I also don't see the big deal in DePaul leaving. Our roster has no depth, anywhere. He's responsible. Angelo is responsible. He's gone. Good. Another rat off the ship. The Bears front office is now starting to resemble a Jewish/Hindu/Catholic/Protestant/Buddhist/Muslim circle jerk, no one knows what the hell is going on, who's in charge, who'll be here next year blah blah blah. I mean, the biggest problem facing the Bears if you ask me is fixing Cutler's head and programming him to throw the ball away when it's not happening. Either plant your foot and follow through, or throw it away. That's all he has to get into his skull - the rest is there. Did you see that Cutler clip where he smirks when he's asked is there a throw he can't make ? No, he says with supreme confidence shaking his head, no throw I can't make, I can get it in there. Who do they hire to get his head right ?

Which NFL legend who's been there and done that, bought the T-shirt, was hired to mentor our Franchise QB ? Fucking Xerox boy. Shane Day. The guy who's last job was laminating the playbooks and making sure the staples were in the right place is the brain in charge of moulding a frightening young talent into a Hall of Famer. Outstanding. Does it really matter who's running around on the Death Star when Darth Vader is on a permanent acid trip?

  • Thanks Murph, very funny,it is hard to be a sports fan at times in Chi-town,good thing alcohol is legal.lol. I posted on an older blog that I really appreciate the great Bear fans that stuck up for me when I first commented on here. I thought it was great and made we want to converse with some real Bear fans on here, without trashing eachother over ones opinion.

  • Doc...Come on in at MB's level... the water is fine!! and yes Jebus PLEASE!! Help us all.. and by the way again the Baby Jebus is my favorite out all the Jebuses!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

That reminds me of the scene from Talladega Nights when Will Ferrell and his wife are arguing over him always referring to the baby Jesus during grace as his favorite Jesus. Will Ferrell FTW.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Z...Yes. The baby Jebus is my favorite..great line..LOL!

  • Calling All Clowns from St. Louis & Tampa past. LDL & JA are trying to fill all postitions come on in! It's like watch Ringling Brothers & Barnum Bailey's Circus's Clown Car pull up and they just keep coming out and showing up.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Lobo, THAT was some funny shit. Not necessarily the video itself, but the comments underneath. I actually busted up in my office reading them. I said the exact same thing after the video ended, "What in thee fuck was that!?!"

    Hahahahahahahhaha

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I know LOL..on the comments...It just reminded me of what we see the Bears Organization..What the F#!@#$K was that..everday at Halas Hall!

This certainly made me think twice about watching a single game next season. Seriously, I'm ill thinking about how fucking terrible that entire group of individuals is, or, if they're any good at all, how little they actually contributed in the decade itself. Big Cat Williams is the cream of the crop and he played in 3 years of the decade.

Jason fucking McKie is on an all-decade list people! Seriously, if that doesn't make you want to throw up you have a career ahead of you directing snuff-films.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

    Rex fucking Grossman?!?!?

    Are they serious?!?!?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It was written by Larry Mayer. He should donate his jaw to Roger Ebert.

  • In reply to gpldan:

If that wasn't so totally fucked up GP, I'd be laughing my ass off.

  • In reply to gpldan:

nice lobo. That's the rated PG-13 prize. what about us grownups?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

yeah..yeah.. I know PG-13.. my seven year old was over my shoulder as I linked it.. I had to keep it clean someway. He asked what were the HoneyBears... I told him they helped fans get through the team of the 70's (except for Sweetness..he was worth the price of admission and then some)

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Fuck you, Trac ........ damn !

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Ha! Irish, you and I think too similarly. When I first saw Trac's post the exact same thing popped into my mind.

    "Fuck you Trac! HAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!"

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wow, only two of you'se has a hardbeat tonight. Gotta love it Oohrah!!!!!!

    comma,space

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    :o)

    You guys .....

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I have "waffled" again and i am back. i couldn't stay away after hearing Sweetness ripping on Bennett and putting him in the same sentence as Rashied Davis and Juaquin Iglesias.

How does a guy that catches 55+ balls in his first season as a starter get lumped in with fucking Rashied Davis and a guy who didn't see the field this year?

He catches everything you throw at him, had a huge punt return, our longest pass play of the season, runs tight routes, catches tough balls in traffic and blocks. I'm sorry he's not 6'4 and is not named Brandon Marshall but use a little commmon sense when you are ripping on various players.

Iglesias is an unknown asset right now and could end up being a good player. we won't know until our idiots upstairs put him in the game instead of Rashied.

This is not Madden 10. Sometimes you have to have guys on your team that play a position and do a job. The small things win football games. Bennett does the small things well. Throw him the damn ball. With Martz coming in you will see 65+ catches next year out of this guy. 3rd and 8? Bennett. 4th and 3? Bennett. Making you eat your words? Bennett.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I am with you on this Johnny. I was really impressed with Bennett this year. Good, tough possession receiver, especially in his first real year on the field. I think next year he has a good year if we don't bring in a Boldin or the like to steal his throws.

    Huh, Irish

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm not down on Bennett really, didn't really watch him this year ... I was too busy watching the opposing defensive lines plough through our O-line unimpeded and in Frank Omiyale's case - helping their progress. Also distracting me from the heroics of Mr. Bennett was wondering what the fk Greg Olsen was doing most of the time ... or seeing Devin Hester giving out autographed pictures when he should have been blocking. I'll look out for him next year because there won't be many to look at.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Based on the under center performances by Grossman and Tebow, Im wondering if they should consider running more botched snap drills in practice at University of Florida.

  • In reply to Dmband:

If the Bears would have only waited they could da had Tebow. Probably could have gotten him in the 3rd round. lol.

  • In reply to Dmband:

I have an AWESOME idea for Jerry, if he hasn't already thought of this piece of brilliance of course...

Why don't we become the first NFL team in history to draft a guy right outta college to fill our vacant senior director of pro personnel spot? Tebow would be spectacular there! Maybe he can bring his fucking mom to work 2 or 3 times a week to help him out.

My sweet Jebus (does that count as one of the Jebuses? if so, he

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Now I know why Lovie kept Grossman around for so long. It kept all the focus off of his coaching and on Sexy Rexy. Damn, he's smarter than I thought he was. Same thing with our offense last year(hence the other guy got fired). Who's next?

  • In reply to Dmband:

Interesting reading for all the lads: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/ross_tucker/02/17/freeagents/index.html

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB; Ray Edwards needs to shut his pie hole. Sounds like penus envy, give me a break. These guys make a ridiculous amount of money and they still seem to always find a way to complain. I'll go to work for "the man" for much less than these prima donna's make. I guess some of these guys can never make enough jack and wouldn't be happy no matter what they can squeeze out of us, the public. What about us the fans? We are the ones that get squeezed to pay these ridiculous salaries and we don't cry like babies. Jeez.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Totally with you Trac.

As part of their NFL on-boarding and training every single one of these fucking whinny babies should have to spend a month in the damn cube farms like the rest of us to see just how lucky they are to be playing the GAME that they love

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Damn it! I almost did it. I almost completed my whole last comment using spaces after my comma's. Until the very last sentence, lol.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

The commas don't bug me BF

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Another point, it seems like Lovie is getting to call all the shots here in the offseason...On the surface, there has been some rage, understandable, that the Bears would allow someone who has been below average to "call the shots"...but I fear that Jerry is simply trying to insolate himself next season...bascially, Lovie is getting setup to be the fall guy and Jerry is going to cop out by saying, well those were Lovie's guys...Pretty much of a bitch move if you ask me.....

  • In reply to Dmband:

DMB..posted it a couple of threads ago but it still works:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWyCCJ6B2WE

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yeah, I wouldnt be suprised Dm. Back to the "asshats" that MB so accurately calls them, these crotchpains not only squeeze their fans but once they crown us for all the Jack they can, they get lazy and complacent and lose sight of why they got the big contract in the first place(by kicking ass). It really chaps my ass to hear them cry like bitches. In my opinion these huge salaries are the biggest reason the game has lost its lustre that it once had. I used to love it when a player like Payton would kick ass for his team and retire where he started. Piss on these assbitches.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Hey MB...I think Roy Boy read the blog about the Clown Car check this out:
    http://dabearsfans.ning.com/forum/topics/the-ringling-bros-and-barnum?xg_source=activity

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Our Boy Roy is on target. I like his swagga.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    Trac-

Also, if there is indeed a work stoppage, that would really be a shame considering all the regular folks have had to sacrifice over the last year and a half or so...Although I understand its a business, you cant shit on your customers like that and expect them to keep coming back...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yeah, funny business. You would think the strike season would have taught them a lesson(the players). These guys aren't lilly white, let me tell you. They were downright assturds to the fill in players during the strike. How could you blame the fill in squads from trying to live their dreams out on the field? I would have signed with a team back then if I could have.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Angelo is the 1st one I want to see get the ax. His enormous Ego is setting up Lovie to take the fall for next year. I am not giving Lovie a pardon here, as they are all at fault, obviously. But Angelo is sneaky looking & always smiling, he is a back stabber for sure & a dreadful evaluator of talent, which we Bear fans no all too well. Wipe that smile off Angelo's face with a pink slip,LOL. I hope they share a video of his firing on you tube as well, lol.

  • In reply to Dmband:

I have a strong feeling that Bill Cowher is just waiting to take over next year for Da Bears. They better jettison Angelo as well, they better not keep him with some lame assz excuse. Same with Phillips he needs to hit the road for sure. If you are going to clean the house, clean it all & do it right!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

your 'simply frightening' clown car video made that piece Lobo. After all, Roy is just a blogger too... we read/watch him, I'm sure he reads Jeff's stuff.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Jeff, new thread already sheesh! :)

Oh, who won the Superbowl Selection contest?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Hey Irish, the Rooney rule basically says you have to interview a minority candidate when you hire a HC. Also, your talent evaluation at WR/TE is suspect at best. Olsen sucks, Hester sucks, Bennett sucks, but Brandon Fucking Rideau is going to the HOF (if only he was in the NFL). Sorry Dude, none of that computes!

One scenario you guys aren't talking about; next year we lose 2-3 of our best players to injuries. LS/JA have built in excuse. McCheapsky's don't fire either of them because there will be no football in 2011. Makes perfect sense to me.

Jerseyflyer doesn't even have the decency to be a closet racist. He's about 2 promotions away from being the Grand Wizard.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I'm with you most of the way CB. As far as Jerseyflyer wrote I would categorize it as ignorant, tasteless and insensitive. I also like to think that we someone speaks without first thinking we are all big enough to call that person out and try to temper our beatdowns. Hopefully they will learn from it and I don't think we should all jump to calling the guy a full blown racist from that remark. I think once we pile on in that manner we miss out on an opportunity to teach. Just a suggestion.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I think Doc's response was quite appropriate.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That was at least the second deserved 'beatdown' since I've been on, a couple other posts were borderline at best.

JF has some good input and thoughts, just don't need the racism mixed in with them. So from my perspective, it wasn't just a harmless slip up, it's happened a couple times before (don't think you were here yet), so an

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    lol...JerseyFlyer come back. as a black man, i wasn't offended :-/

but on a serious note, the KKK reference was a bit much lol. why be a closet racist? i'd rather know what and how you are on the open front. be as overt as you want Jersey!!!!! (lol and don't do the "i have (___________) many friends outside my race....we minorities thinks that's racist as hell).

now time for business: anybody read these snips yet?

wtf is this "approval by blog owner" shit? are you serious?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I don't ever see that messgae FQ

  • In reply to FQD1911:

you just had too many links in your post, or its too long FQ, it's happened to me before.

I'm interested to hear your take on this.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

take on what? JerseyFlyer? lol....i'm actually cool w/ him doing that b/c i like my racists overt, not covert. did i have a problem w/ what he said? not particularly b/c he has a valid point: the Rooney Rule (in its essence) can set up for a lot of failure (see Leslie Frazier). but HOW he said it was the part that pissed everybody off (and i'd like for him to come back....no need running now).

now as a black man, i'm the last person to use race as a crutch (everybody knows the history & inception of this country and if you don't, travel to the South.....we'll let you know lol). but, the Grand Wizard reference? a lil' much. i'll be the first to criticize Lovie for his lack of football intelligence, spirit, & fire that a CHICAGO BEAR coach needs to have, but when race comes into the picture, that's a problem. i bet if Dungy or Tomlin were here, he wouldn't have a problem w/ it.

ok....all rambling aside, lay off the closet-racist Jersey (lol). so he doesn't particularly care for black ppl. i don't particularly care for white ppl that don't particularly care for black ppl....but on this site, we're all Bears fans looking for the same objective: a plethora of George S. Halas & Lombardi Trophies to grace HH. leave the social commentary out of it.

    just my $.02 :-)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Yes, about Jersey

  • In reply to MB30SD:

lol i'm still here....just waiting on a new topic.

as for Bears related stuff, here's a nice nugget from B/R:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/346705-with-the-75th-pick-in-the-2010-nfl-draft-the-chicago-bears-select

and to take a phrase from a MB i saw 1 time, "the strongest weapon against ignorance is indifference." if you don't care about it, then it doesn't bother you, rendering the source useless. i'm proud of my heritage, ppl (positive & negative), and culture. and to hear JerseyFlyer say something racist gives me pride that he's looking at something black ppl are doing that he either wants to do but can't or wishes he could do but won't.

    we salute you JerseyFlyer :-)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Thanks for the read FQ. I can't believe we are reduced to hoping for some miracle come the 75th pick. Oh well, the price we pay for success. We are gonna succeed right?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I'm shocked, he's not from Vandy. At least this tells me the front office knows they're "not pretty well set" on the O-line. We really need a veteran for next year though. Man I hope they can sign RG/Jahri Evans from the Saints. It would make life so much more enjoyable next season to see Cutty drop back and have time to pick apart the D.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Hahahahahahha... common trac. seriously man. that shit ain't happ-nin in a million years. Not after the year he had. They're either going to resign or tag his fat ass. They would be idiots to let him walk.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I dont care if our coach is a Green Alien, as long as they can win us some championships!!! We are one of the largest markets, lets start acting like it. No more settling for mediocrity, shoot for the stars. Sorry, the medications are starting to talk now,LOL..

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Fan, let me see if I get this right. Are you now equating Loveless Smith to a Green Alien?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Has anybody else read this blog 50 times?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Uhuh ... I have a feeling we'll know who cleans out the restrooms at Halas hall in a few weeks. And we'll be arguing about who should clean the toilets.....

    Something new!

Pretty right on, but Vasher, really? (don't get me wrong, I wish he would have busted out this year again. I actually like(d) the guy a lot)

    http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=6561

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah I know, he played for the high school in my town. I heard through his cousin that the reason he hasn't played much is to keep his paycheck incentives down. Specially in '08 after he came back from his injury.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Yeah, sucks. I really liked him when he was kicking ass and taking names. Thought he fit the mould of a true Bear. Oh well.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

really? that's bullshit. fuck vasher....in it for the money and not to win. smh...money's cool, but if you have enough of it and are raping the org, why not bust your ass? wow....

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

If it was the first time, I would have posted something but not been so harsh. In the short time I've been here that's at least the 3rd time. We're all Bears fans, let's leave it at that. I don't want to know about others politics, religion, etc. There are a million other sites if you want to talk that stuff.

Not trying to be overbearing or the PC police but ...

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Depends on how you read his comment I suppose, to me; he is just insinuating that Lovie is so bad at his job that he must have gotten hired because of that rule. In a way you would almost have to be racist to read that much into one sentence of a flippant comment on a blog post.

  • In reply to dutsami:

Not giving the dude a pass, don't get me wrong.

  • In reply to dutsami:

For the record, I think Lovie earned his shot at HC by being a hell of a DC regardless of race but, realating someone to a KKK leader is a bit dramatic.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I agree Trac, The greedy ones always tend to show their true colors eventually. I do hate hearing them Bitch when they make millions & can retire quite young. I have a Chronic pain disability, so I cant work anymore & struggle on disibility money. Thanks to a doctor that screwed me up during a simple hernia operation. I just think if he wants more $$ he better play better,LOL. Not good to be jealous cause someone makes more than you. I like to see people rewarded when they bust their assz to earn it, good for them. Sorry I am Rambling lol. Are you guys asleep yet,Ha,ha.

I read MB's first. Nah I don't mean EB = Ricky Martin (see!), just that if I wake up in the morning and find out he's in Cleveland that I could care less. I'd prefer a pick in the second or third round more than Earl Bennett being on the roster. That's all. He doesn't start next year by the way.

We have a return guy, Hester. I hate seeing Manning/Knox/Bennett all risking hospital running back kicks.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Actually, you know what ... Shabba, Hester ... Bennett ... nope, we can't let him go. Our receivers are that poor. He could be disastrous with the new playbook though, ditto Hester.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I have to respectfully disagree. this kid can play. Martz will turn this guy into Ricky Proehl. But seeing as how we managed to let Rickly Proehl go in 1997 after 1 year and then he went on to embarass teams with St. Louis as part of the "Greatest Show on Turf" for 3 years, we will probably screw it up.

You have to save this photo of Grossman ... priceless :

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Here we go, back to injuries. It sure seems like we need a new strength and conditioning coach... Who is our S&C coach anyhow?

  • it's not the team all the time Doc, it's all of you/us. It's nice to have a place to come shoot the shit and talk with a bunch of dudes with at least one shared passion. And you don

  • I'd actually rather not meet any of you bastards... I much prefer my mental image of each of you. I'm sure the real thing wouldn't be nearly as frightening/spectacular/interesting/dramatic.

You're probably totally not what you make yourselves out to be, you're probably all just 14 year old girls anyway.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah, Fuck everyone on here MB. It's like 20 dudes sitting around playing World of Warcraft, racking up 20 million experience points, haven't left the house in years ... I'm only fifteen by the way, but very well developed for a young lady. Any of you guys wanna come over and watch Superbowl XX ? Mom and Dad's away ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Eeeeeewwwww... leave it to Irish to take it juuuust over the line.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The knock on cromartie is he cannot tackle. If we can coach him up then fine, last time I checked though, tackling is a must on D.

  • Moments, dude, moments. I saw Hester run back the Superbowl kickoff on Total Access yesterday. Hairs on the back of the neck. Memories like that, that's why we come back. She's our woman, ain't perfect, but she's ours.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:
