R.I.P. 2009 Chicago Bears

As the NFL moves into the postseason and the Bears pack up their lockers, I'm battling the flu. So I'll have a year-end column up tomorrow or as soon as there's an announcement from Halas Hall.

7-9.  Stinks.

    Feel better Jeff.

  • Nyquil and bed is all ya need. Let's hope the announcements out of Halas Hall is what we all as fans really want.

  • Get well soon...

    ...I don

  • Get well, Jeff.

This year went by too quick and ended too soon. Here's to a productive off-season and a clean slate.

    Bear Down Gents...

  • Spanish Bear just jogged my memory about Henry Melton. I like how we got him on the IR with a "foot injury". When he lined up to return that first pre-season kickoff i had convinced myself that it was the coolest thing i had ever seen. our kick returner weighed 270lbs. at that point i knew we were going to the super bowl. NFL is funny like that.

  • I'll give a few more good things:

    1) Tim Shaw
    2) DA
    3) Steiltz showing up against Minny. He's not the fastest but he's a football player
    4) Bowman
    5) Did things finally click for Omiyale?
    6) Well, that's about it.

Here are my hopes, assuming Lovie's back:
    1) New DC
    2) New OC
    3) Keep Drake
    4) Move Brown to LDE
    5) Move Peanut to FS
    6) Healthy Tommie Harris
    7) Healthy 54

That's all I've got right now.

I would like to add Cutty to both lists. Jay almost broke the single season Bears passing record while having at least 6 TD catches dropped, 26 INT's (5 of which were nowhere near his fault and no running game in his very first year as a Bear. He was both a good and bad thing this year and will be hugely improved next year with more time with the WR corps and Forte.

Anyone that would like to go back and retract their statements regarding bringing Rex Appeal or Le Bearded Neck back can silently apologize to the football god's at this time. Cutler would have won 27 games this season with that Denver team.

You have to love this article and it's soooo true!

  • In reply to Reichwolff:

WOW! Hit the nail on the HEAD!!! PLEASE LOVIE...MAN UP AND STEP OUT!!!!!

  • In reply to jdawg:

    good list
    a couple thoughts-
    1. Omiyale is fucking terrible.
    2. Why move our best corner? Harder to get Corners than safeties..
    3. How about our LBs? We learned about Roach, Williams and Hunter and we know we have a deep, talented unit.
    4. The Chris Williams at LT and handling it is huge. As I said on prior posts, LT is sooo hard to fill and his emergence would go miles for this team.

  • In reply to animal:

    1. Omiyale looked a lot better at the end of the season. Of course facing Jimmy Kennedy instead of Pat Williams could have something to do with that.
    2. Peanut looked pretty mediocre before getting injured against the vikes. He's an above average corner but I think he could be a Pro Bowl FS in this scheme.
    3. As much as I'm going to throw up a little in my mouth, you've got to give credit to Babbich a little. Shitty DC, good LBC.

  • In reply to animal:

Depth at the LB position ? If we have depth anywhere it's at DL. Outside of the starters I'll take Jamar Williams no problem, but qualifying Roach and Hillenmeyer as meaning our LBs are deep and talented, no. I'll bet he gets no interest in FA and we sign HH back for a bargain. I'd prefer to see us develop a real MLB though, he hurt us in Brian's absence, giving up tons of weight and strength, skill, knowledge, ability ... and that's not the role of a good backup. Pisa is probably gone. Williams takes over ... and then we have Roach and Shaw as 'depth'. Neither are starting linebacker material. Brian Urlacher is the glue of this defense and we don't win hard games without him. Period.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    Thanks for the props lobo.

I'm sad to say that finding this blog this season has given me a bit of an outlet for all my pent up Bears love/frustration/thoughts.

Sorry to all of you regulars for having to put up with my shit now. It's been a blast and has made this pathetic season worthwhile. Thanks to Jeff and all you guys.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    hot off the wire:

RT @ZachZaidman: Lovie Smith is expected to remain as Bears head coach. Some changes to his coaching staff are likely.

not that we weren't all expecting it, but dammit. PLEASE let us get charlie weis. and DON'T LET LOVIE TOUCH THAT DAMN OFFENSE!!!! NOT A BIT!!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Gents.. I have to tell you that the pit of my stomach is starting to rumble, and not in a good way. I have a bbbbbaaaaaaddddd feeling about these next few days. I am afraid we may all be turning around and bending over and having the LOVIE Pipe shoved up our A@$#@SES. OMG I hope not but boy the talking heads are all going agaisnt us. SHITE!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Anybody here seriously think anybody above Turner is going ? Not going to happen. It's all been spelled out very carefully. And Arkush on Profootballweekly is going to look like a spoon and a crackpot unless Cowher gets Lovie's job. Remember, and remind him of his 'news' ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

WOW!!! I do not want to be the gloom and doom but...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Scratch one Shanahan.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/04/report-redskins-likely-to-introduce-shanahan-tuesday/

I'm really interested in this 2 p.m. presser at Halas Hall tomorrow. I imagine it is Lovie and Jerry sitting in front of the media telling us all that Ron Turner has been let go...and that we should trust him as Head Coach to do the right thing.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Sidenote...I was just watching Total Access and something occurred to me; does it seem like there are a lot more rematches in the Wildcard Round than ever? Three of the four Wildcard games are opponents who played each other in Week 17! Seems peculiar.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

Ghost... watching the same also ..and I thought the same too. I also thought that JD said "Throw out the previous records about rematches during the season with this group. Interested thought line there.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

NO VASELINE...being handed out tommorrow boys and girls at 2:00pm near Halas Hall.

JUST ROUGH AND HARD and not even a KISS!!!! from TP/JA/LDL and all the other MOTH@!$#@!#FU!@$#!$#ERS in the house.

Captian Inchoherent will explain how he will guide us next year to a great record of 5-13 or a non post season 6-12.

    Thanks McFU!@$#!@#$STER"S

  • In reply to jdawg:

    WTF?!?!?!

You know when you have 3 back to back non-playoff seasons that the only reason the players want to coaches to stay is because they treat them like little princesses. They want him back for all the WRONG reasons. They love their monogrammed soap-on-a-rope. Pussies.

Man this pisses me off: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=6464

  • In reply to jdawg:

4-Letter is saying Bill Cowher is NOT likely to coach in 2010.

Shanahan is in a face-to-face with Dan Snyder that is expected to go on well into the evening.

  • Here is Hunter cleaning out his stuff:

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/assistants-get-day-off-as-lovie-meets-with-brass.html

Hunter looks like a Muppet, not a Bear MLB. But hey kid, you played your heart out and did as good a job as your physical ability would allow.

You're alright by us. Now go back to banging that hot chick at Channel 2.

  • Doc...It's all about the gravy train...when is HH's contract up? LDL is helping them all get the $$$$.. it's the LOVETRAIN.. GRAVY UP!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Hillenmeyer's contract is up. Bye Hunter. Fangs for the memories but we like to hit people here.
