The Only Game Left This Year

The Green Bay Packers are going to the postseason.  They're going to have a chance to win the Super Bowl because that's what going to the postseason means.  Aaron Rodgers - the guy who just a summer ago was under the most pressure in the sport - has risen to the top shelf of NFL quarterbacks.  Their defense - the damn Packers defense - is the top ranked in the sport.  Don't look now but the 2009 Green Bay Packers are everything we hoped the 2009 Chicago Bears would be.

So I'm thinking maybe the Bears should forget about the first twelve weeks of the season.  They're lost love.  Wishes made to an empty fountain.  Forget about failures on the offensive line, interceptions in the red zone, holes in the Lovie deuce and injuries everywhere.  For one day, Sunday, deliver fans of this organization an effort.  Because I left out one piece of information...

The Packers don't have to go to the postseason.  The Bears can have their say in the discussion.  Win this one.  Have pride in yourselves and in the colors you wear and beat those bastards back to Cheese Town.  Send them with a message: WE WON'T BE PART OF YOUR ROAD.  Soldier Field should not be part of the Packers' path to the postseason.  It should be a big tollbooth and the cost to pass through is your season.  Make them pay, Chicago Bears.  Give us all one beautiful memory from 2009.

  • Bear down! It's Packer Week!

Jeff, great post. That's what I love about football, there are only 16 games in the regular season, so there is no excuse for not playing with pride every week.

  • that was beautiful. if i wasn't at work about to fall asleep, i would be crying.

BEAT THOSE DAIRY EATING FUCKERS BACK TO COWLAND, USA!!!!! BEAR DOWN!!!

  • Third !

  • Remember when Lovie first became the Bears coach? He made it his number one priority to beat the Packers. Maybe we've been asking and expecting too much of Lovie. Maybe we can't expect him to coach us to the super Bowl. Maybe we can't expect him to coach us to a winning season. Shit at this point we don't even expect him to coach a single good game, but maybe, just maybe he can remember his "number one priority" and BEAT THE FUCKING PACKERS.

    Bear down Chicago bears!

  • In reply to mikev:

I'll never forget that. I remember being blown away that his priority wasn't the super bowl. That any coach could have a priority that wasn't wining the super bowl was stunning.

  • In reply to mikev:

    We

  • In reply to Scala:

So what's different between the first game and this one ? Why are the PAckers suddenly all that ? Ain't buying it, Soldier field is our house and this is the Packers. No way they win.

  • In reply to mikev:

Did you guys see the trade between the Trib and Sun-Times? Morrissey for Biggs. I'd say the Trib pantsed the S-T's on that one. We have a chance to win Sunday if we don't turn the ball over, stop the run and pressure AR. If we fail in any of those areas we're toast.

I don't care how we spin the rushing stats from last Sunday. We were barely successful running against a horrible run defense team. So split it up with avg or mean, we still suck running the ball.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to mikev:

Inspiring post Jeff it all fucking comes down to Sunday....

    Grant - dead!!
    Driver - Dead!!!
    Rogers - DEAD!!!!
Linebackers with gay hair - FUCKING DEEEEEAAAAAADDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RUIN THEIR SEASON

Now that's the sh1t I'm talking about Waffle....

  • In reply to mikev:

Where is your firing squad Jeff? One day you want to fire Lovie and the other day you come out saying "how about a win against the Packers"?

IF you or any other Bears fan want change this wont happen with Lovie winning games.Thirty years of pathetic display is enough for me as a fan.

Hoping for a Bears loss does not make you less of a fan.Changes must happen since this team runs a very soft training camp and has a very amateur and unreliable coaching staff.Needless to say about the talent on this team.

Here is hoping to a 5-11 or 6-10 finish to help Ted Phillips justify some changes regarding Angelo and Lovie.

Cowher and Shannahan are out there

  • In reply to johnkos:

"Hoping for a Bears loss does not make you less of a fan"

Oh it so absolutely does, that's what amazes me about 'fans' who root for their team to lose. They just don't get it, makes me want to puke. Would you pull the jersey on too. Can't see the wood for the trees. Through thick and thin, in sickness and in health til death do us part .....

  • In reply to mikev:

Spoiler's game is for losers...and that's what our team is.

  • In reply to mikev:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I posted a few days ago that our ST's are hurting due to 3 LB's taken off the teams. Roach and Williams are very athletic and HH would be in the correct lane, etc. Maynard calling a timeout was due to Bell not being on the field. Embarrassing but Bell has only been up for a couple of weeks.

Totally agree about the remaining games. No guarantees about Lovie getting tossed so why root against the Bears? Makes no sense. I'm guessing Lovie and JA would be back even if we shit the bed in all 4 remaining games.

    Oh well, Go Bears!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I think I remember that post CB... My thought at the time was, 'but that can't account for the wholesale implosion that we've seen on every ST unit almost every game this year'.

There has to be more than a couple missing guys. The mistakes certainly haven

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Good coaches don't forget how to coach. Our talent level stinks. Either we fair catch, let it bounce or catch it and go in reverse. Devin has lost his mojo. The other parts are due to players not familiar with ST's or possibly just being a dumbass. I agree this isn't Toub's shining moment but I think it's more on the players.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Did anyone see Urlacher on Joe Buck Live last night?? Urlacher was laughing when Joe Buck asked him about the Bears and then 54 kept saying (while laughing) "We're still in the hunt, ESPN says we're still in the hunt". Seriously?? This is what the team has turned into, the fearless leader starts to laugh when asked what has happened to the Bears this season. We'll see if he is man enough to play any games this season now that his cast is off. What a joke.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

#54 is a great athlete but dumber than a box of rocks. He can't stand the lack of attention so he's going out of his way to seek out the media. Only Tiger Woods has had a worse two weeks than this jackass. Overall I don't care what he says but it's clear he is not a leader for this team. Not to mention his popularity is nose diving worse than the Bears record. I still want to see him on the field for the Bears because he has no trade value and is better than an avg MLB. Once his skills erode a little more he will be out of Chicago faster than Milton Bradley. What a dipshit!

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to mikev:

Here's my motherfuckin farm! Tropic is a classic MB. Toub has come back to life, back to reality. Maynard calling the timeout last week because they didn't have enough guys on the field was pee wee league shit. Unacceptable, we let em off the hook!

Jamar has good taste. If I was in his shoes, I would have only given interviews at the SB to spicy female latin reporters from Telemundo. Ay yay yay.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

I wasn't a big fan of RDJ before this movie Crown... but my god, he was brilliant. Then I saw Ironman, and the trailer for Sherlock Holmes. He's a master indeed.

    Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTCiUIP2uY8

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Da Trib did an article today called Chicago sports look-a-likes. They matched Robbie Gould with Hilary Swank. Can't we give this guy a break? He's been one of our bright spots.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Why dont they compare Lovie to a person in an unemployment line tomorrow with a picture cause thats where the idiot of a coach belongs instead of the sideline of what used to be one of the proudest football franchises in the league.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Oh, I forgot to add that Joe Buck responded "Thats Crap" and Urlacher just sat there laughing. Good leader.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

I forgot to include it in the last post. He's on IR so he can't play this year.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

MB30SD - fucking hilarious story, glad you shared..

While Urlachers bald head is definitely a bit phalic, he's been far and away our best player since he got here. I'll have to watch that pompous know nothing Joe Buck of dicks show tonight and formulate my own opinion on that one. Urlacher rarely does anything good away from the football field, but he is a hell of a player.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

While I agree because of tenure, Robbie Gould is the best player on the Bears.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

Sigh,MB30SD. Not sayin' you're wrong but in that case I have two words for you.

    Dream. On.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

    Nice post Jeff.

I like the optimistic view of potentially crapping on any kind of fudge packing wildcard run on Sunday.

There is also the view that if things go as bad as they look like they should on Sunday, things are going to get ugly at Soldier Field.

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

Al, a girl can dream. Let's all just hope lightening strikes twice and we're all shocked come Jan.

Mustache and SC, since you're both encouraging me (sorry everyone)... the funnier part was after he refused to pay the extra $10 bucks for her to get in, he went ninja-style around the side of the property and boosted her up like a 15 foot high wall to get her to his room, litterally almost killing both of them in the process.

In the morning, he had booked a deep sea fishing trip

  • In reply to RealityCheck:

    It's bear week!

Not much luster behind this game as it's pretty much a story of 2 teams going in opposite directions. One fighting for the playoffs & one trying to figure how they can fix their complete mess of a situation.

This game might look like a complete mismatch on paper against the bears, but I expect them to fight hard in this game. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the bears win this game. I don't expect that to happen, but it could.

The Packers are playing like the better team right now. Their D is playing amazing & is currently the top rated unit in the entire league. Their Oline seems to have come together over the last month. Charles Woodson & Aaron Rodgers are playing at an MVP caliber level right now.

Their special teams is pretty bad & is where the bears need to capitalize to be successful. It could play a huge role in this game.

The Packers are the better team right now.. So they will roll in this one, as they know how important it is to get a division/conference win right now.. And to mention kicking their most hated rival a little bit while their down too...

    Packers 27
    bears 17

    GO PACK GO!!!

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

I'm glad you showed up Max. Yes, your O-line looks like a new o-line. Congrats on that. Woodson - impressive, yes. Rodgers ? Cutleresque. But glad to say that the road to the superbowl for the Packers is blocked by the San Andreas Bears. After kicking the crap out of GB in week one and then managing to lose the game, let's just say that Big Daddy Bear is at home this time... and Clay Matthews and the Goldilocks Packers are in for a prolonged a**-rap1ng. You may not have enough players to continue with the season next week. Apologies for that in advance.

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

Not only did the Bears record and thoroughly unimpressive victory in week 13, they hit a daily-double! They are no longer LAST in the league in rushing! Those 91 yards racked up by Matt Forte moved them all the way up to 31st! Way to "get off the bus running", Lovie!

Seriously, can anyone tell us when was the last time the Chicago Bears were DEAD LAST in the NFL in rushing? Safe to say it was Pre-Payton?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I'd have a small bet and say we *never* came last in rushing ?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

The problem began when Lovie did not keep Riviera . That was the begining. Then he did not recognize that Orton was the right leader for the offense. We waisted too much time on Grossman. The last point I would like to make is Turner's plays are the most boring I have ever seen in Chicago play calling history. First down play , always a run.If I as a fan pick up on this, who else is? In the end my wish is we get a Bear to coach this team (Singletary) We need the mentality of Mike and Buddy back. Merry Christmas Bear Fans .

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

My last coment The Bears know always had the recipe to challenge the Packers, if they play to their capacity they could very well win the game.GO BEARS!!!!!!!!ALWAYS A FAN NO MATTER WHAT.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

By the bye - what about the Vikings game in Soldier Field. taht's a big one. Pride, capital P etc ....

  • In reply to MadMaxRockatansky:

Cutlers stats- completion %, projected yards and tds, will be pretty much the same as the last 2 yrs. in Denver. He will have more pics, but not alot more than the 18 he had in Denver. We know our WRs and shitbag O line are at fault for a lot of that.
Jay is who we thought he was. Same guy as the Denver QB. Blaming him is fucking stupid, we need to improve the team around him.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Joe Buck is a bag of dicks.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

BAAAAAAAAAAhahahaha... Mustache. Haven't heard that in years. Was on a Cabo trip (san lucas) for Memorial day. All kinds of debauchery that won't be mentioned here. My buddy brings a chick back to his hotel and the guy at the front desk is hassling him and wants to charge him extra for taking this chick up with him...

He looks the guy in the face and in broken (terrible) Spanish says, "Senor, tu naciste de un bolsa be vergas!"

Rough translation, "You were born of a bag of dicks sir"

    BAAAAAAAAHahahahaha... ahhh, meeeeemoriiiieeeees!

    Thanks for that sir.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    *That* is funny.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

To be honest, I'm also starting to think that Mr. Urlacker was also born of a bag of dicks... albeit, a very athletic bag of dicks.

Also, can SOMEONE please, please do this for Lovie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb0hCtXkDss

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Urlacher is the greedy gobbling mouth around those dicks in the bag. I had a brief flash last night and it was good. We traded Urlacher and Hester for Cleveland's first Pick and we drafted NamawongdongBillabong Suh who kicked Aaron Rogers ass for ten years ....

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

The Packers went from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and are now among the leaders in defense.

Anyone else think it may be time for the Bears to take a look at the 3-4, especially since they seem to do a better job at finding quality linebackers than any other position on the field?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Al, two words for you sir...

    William. Cowher.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

goes to show you...sometimes the system needs more than a little tweaking. cough. cough.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yessir, bigtime. I'm all for 3-4 and moving on. We have a bunch of linebackers (when healthy) that we could utilise. After we somehow miraculously get our hands on Nwamaboolongadingaling Suh, there's our defensive line. Just him. Like a 1-6 defense, it's new.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

I agree Joe Buck is a douche, but the smirk and attitude of Urlacher was either so far in denial about the team or I wonder if he actually believes the Bears are still in the hunt or if he was trying to make everyone laugh.

  • In reply to mikev:

Kos, I don't have the patience you do. I don't wanna not care about a football game until next September. Fuck, I'm flying to Chicago in two weeks to sit in the freezing cold for the Vikings game. If this organization needs more losing to decide whether to fire Lovie, then we're already a lost cause. I'd take winning out over losing out any day of the week.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

Jeff...just found out that my sister's husband was able to score four free tickets to the Minny game by taking a Christmas shift for a buddy. 13th row. Kind of shows you how this season has gone...giving up a Monday night game for a shift change! Anyways, I'll be in attendance. Make sure you let us all know where you'll be sitting. I'd happily buy you an old style for starting up my fav sports blog.

  • In reply to mikev:

    Well wrote Jeff,
Time to send that spoiled cheese back to wisconsin and that fucking mcarthey with that fuckin sharpie behind his ear lets stick that sharpie up his ass and BEAR DOWN on those fudgepackers I hope WE show up and play!

  • Never doubted for a second that we're going to empty cartridges into the collective chest of the Packers at Soldier field. Rodgers is far from the finished article as much as Collinsworth likes to blow his horn. Strong arm, mobile, but holds onto the ball far too long, and like Cutler, can make terrible decisions. He was hopelessly ineffective against us in week one because we pressured him constantly. Take his last ditch hail mary out of the equation and he was a disaster. If we can do the same this weekend against their improved line (fark!) then it should be a straightforward mauling. Their defense was excellent in week one, so we already know what to expect there. We need something nasty to happen to Charles Woodson though. If we can get Roach, Jamar Williams, Briggs and Tillman on the field together ... it's hammer time for Ryan Grant and Aaron Rodgers. The Packers will atone for the nightmare of the season opener, and there will be blood ....

  • I liked the remark to the reporter. Good shot!

Can you believe the FudgePacker/BiQueens fans that go to a Chicago website to rip on Cutler? Get a fuckin' life guys. One remarked about Cutler throwing teammates under the bus. When has that happened? What a bunch douchebuckets!

    Go Bears!
