A Disaster

You can't play quarterback like Jay Cutler played quarterback last night.  It's simply not allowed at the professional level.  He was erratic, mindless and disastrously inaccurate.  He was everything we've seen at quarterback for the better part of three decades.  The same guy who seemed to single-handedly beat Pittsburgh, single-handedly threw the season into a San Francisco toilet.

Cutler is the Goat.  Devin Hester is Goat 1A.  Last night's ballgame confirms what I've been arguing for the past two seasons: moving Hester to wide receiver is the biggest error of the Lovie Smith era.  Hester was the most exciting and dynamic weapon in the sport and the Bears stripped that excitement away by forcing too much onto a limited player's plate.  When he was needed to play like a number one receiver, he looked like a guy still learning to run routes.  How many more years of this must we watch?

Today is not the day to call for firings.  It's not the day to yell about anything.  Today is the day to look the role of spoiler in the eyes and embrace it.  Today is the day to forget about the 2009 season but it's forgotten about you.  Without a number one pick, there's no reason to route for the club to lose.  Hopefully this team will fight like hell through the next seven games and make us proud.  But the next important game won't be until September 2010.

  • Couple of things...

I'd prefer if moving forward no one mentions the word "playoffs", or "we can still finish 11-5"...etc.

Secondly, yes, there is no defending Cutler on this one...BUT, we still AT LEAST have some stability at the position for once in our lives, and hopefully, can build around his specific strengths. I dont want to hear how we WOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME with Orton or Grossman, well guess what, we would have lost the games against Seattle and Pittsburg...so lets not get crazy here.

Sorry guys, Im just pissed off....

just wanted to re post this so we all know the rules...

  • Over, not very fun, and looks like a grim near future.

All of you that said Forte lost his burst are right. The O-line hasn't done him any favors, but he's not the same back as last year. I know what happened, he asked Cedric Benson for the extra 10 pounds he shed during the off-season. Get you're ass on a treadmill.

Shaeffer should be playing from here on out. He got a push during that last drive and gave Cutler some protection.

Olin Kruetz snaps the ball off the ground. He needs to be replaced next year. Finding a center should be a priority.

After all that talk about WRs before the season, we still need a big physical possession type receiver. Nice to see Aroshwhateverthefuck, the one guy Cutler felt he had some chemistry make the field. About fucking time. I want to see if this guy has been out of the loop for a reason. Coaches, if Jay says he thinks he has chemistry with a wide out in the future, please listen. Lets get some big guys in here that don't give up on routes and can go up for a jump ball type situation.

The most important thing I want to see the rest of the way is Jay Cutler get his confidence back. Although, I only blame him for the first and last INT, if you throw that many picks you are going to question yourself. We all know this guy has the ability. He needs to get some rhythm with our receivers and get his swag back.

I don't know why he is not using his arm on some plays to zip it into guys. I'd rather have a heater go off one of our guys chests rather than some finesse bullshit that gives the D time to react and pick it off. Enough of these touch passes. Throw the ball hard places. I don't know why he isn't using his arm strength. Maybe because the pocket is collapsing in front of him and he's afraid that if he steps up he will get crushed again by a DT.

  • One more thing...Mr. Turner, please make a mental note that the half back screen to Forte works. He had 160+ receiving yards. Hopefully, we won't have to rely on you remembering that for very long even though I know you wouldn't pick it up anyways.

  • Aw, come on guys. There's still a lot of football left to go. We can still finish 11-5. The Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl with a 9-7 finish. We can do this!

  • Just kidding.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

Just off the wire: Cutler fined $20,000 for whatever he said to the official in the Cardinals game. Fuck. Tommie was only fined $7,500 for doing something to get kicked outta the game.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

How about another 20K for that awful game he had last night?

  • I remember reading that we would be an offensive Juggernaut if we scored every time we made it in the red zone this year. The play calling by RT in the red zone is to predictable. Why burn a play and try to run up the middle when have shown all year that is exactly what play we always call on first down and the same play we get defeated on 95% of the time unless it's the lowly browns.... Last night I saw us burn this same play twice in the red zone expecting to made a third down miracle. Instead we get picked off because Cutler tried to force it in. Lets buse our brain RT and be more creative. Lets score every time we get in the red zone... No excuses!!!!! No more dumb ass RT play calling BS. No more red zone picks. Get Your head out of your ass Cutler & BE A LEADER and settle for three points if needed.

  • ......Pissed Offs back....tell a friend... Its the real me. A little shocked that no one had stolen that username after over a year but I've heard theres been several impersonators since I've been gone. Anything you've read from a so called Pissed Off within the last year and change has not been me, this is my first day posting since then. The season is over and this would be about the time I'd say, lets rebuild, throw in the backup and see what he's got (at all positions, not just QB) but we clearly cant do that cuz Cutler is the future of the franchise. Thats the real problem here....we're not supposed to be buried only midway thru the season...we're not supposed to try out the young backup QB or DB or whatever and see what he's got cuz we're supposed to be in the playoff hunt. This sucks, lets find a new team to watch for the rest of the season so we're not sulking for the next 7-10 weeks. Heres the silver lining...or mabye its bronze or rusting metal, but theoretically, with the talent we have on this team, no matter how bad things go in the offseason, including hopefully the firing of Lovie and Turner, we have enough talent that we could make a playoff run next year and thereafter. Look at what we have coming back, the key pieces are still going to be in place, new coach or not, and I think the majority of the reason a team wins anyway is players performing, not coaching. You can take me deep on that opinion based on this year but I wont change my mind. So there it is. There will still be ups and downs this year, no playoff aspirations, but we're not going to lose EVERY game from here on out so the best we can hope for is to mabye beat the Vikes once or play spoiler later in the year with a few Ws and hopefully that'll keep us cheery enough to make it into next season. Hows that for talking someone off the ledge. Its just sports. But take all of this now with grain of salt as I am no longer the die hard, let the bears control my moods type of fan. I look forward to reading some of the old timers I remember from years past as well hearing from some of the new blood I havent heard from. I wont be posting much but I thought I'd put my two cents in coming back.

  • Jay is puzzling. Is his demeanor a problem, or perhaps attempt to control his emotions for fear his diabetes will flare up (a real possibility - not being facetious). I get the impression by body language that he is disgusted with the play calling. WE CAN'T RUN - why does Turner keep trying in the red zone???

He threw over 50 passes in a 10-6 game. Has that EVER happened in the history of the NFL? The INTs may be Cutler only, or it may be him feeling he has to get rid of the ball too quick.

Missed a lot of the game (thank God) - but were there a lot of planned rollouts?

  • lol. is that a joke? Vikings are gonna lose 5 of their next 8? seriously, we play the lions, seahawks, and bears at HOME the next three games. Then we play the same cardinals we crushed last year in arizona with tarvaris jackson at the helm. The vikings are gonna cruise to a 14-2 record unless we rest our starters in the last week of the season.

You should listen to your head blogger cause even he knows your season is already over. have fun watching us in the playoffs.

  • In reply to John:

Your season is reliant on a 40 year old arm that will fall off before the playoffs. You know that soreness will turn into tendinitis which will turn into shoulder strain which will turn into a cartilage tear. His arm has peaked before it counts. Minnesota and Indy might have the best records going into the playoffs, but they will get bounced quickly when they get in.

  • In reply to John:

    Hey Assbag.

What the fuck are you doing on a Bears blog you used douchbag. This is honestly what your pathetic life amounts to... scouring the web for Bears blogs to post on, my Jebus you're a sweet little fucking tool. I bet you have 4 teeth and a fucking mullet like that meathead JAllen don't you John? You live in a fucking trailer down by the river don't you John. My goodness you

  • In reply to John:

I will have lots of fun watching St. Favre melt down and blame everyone but himself for a loss to the Saints.

  • In reply to John:

Welcome aboard John. Glad to see your life is so empty and shallow that you need to go on other teams boards and gloat. Sounds like a pretty fulfilling life to me. BTW, everything has fallen right for the Queens this year. You just know Favre is going to go in the tank at some point and if that drunken hillbilly gets caught boozing it up again he'll get a 4-game suspension (he had 2 strikes in KC). You're the reason almost every Bears fan hates the Queens. All of their douchebag fans are total front runners (having a hard time selling out games when you're 7-1). Once you guys go back to sucking cock, we'll never hear another peep out of you.

    Thanks, I feel better now.

    Go Bears!

  • Well put Jeff. Question, do the Bears have any run plays designed NOT to run up the middle?? Man, we had weak side wide open all game, especially at goaline, and did not capatalize on it. You know whats funny (I live in San Diego) and was lisetening to AM Chargers radio and they were talking to LT. LT was asked if (Norv) Turner will ever stop running the ball up the middle on 1st down and LT just laughed. I guess it runs in the family.. How do Turners get jobs in the NFL?? We had the game if we would have just passed to Olsen and Forte the whole game because its pretty obvious no one else can run a route. Sorry Hester, you are pretty bad. Go back to returning kickoffs please. You are not feared anymore...

  • Jay Cutler sealed Ron Turner's fate last night.

I'm not saying RT has been the biggest problem with the offense this year (I think it has more to do with the players) but people are going to look for a scapegoat and the Bears certainly not going to quit on Cutler after just 1 season, or Devin Hester for that matter either.

Maybe it just seems like it happens to the Bears more than other teams because I'm a Bears fan, but this team never fires on all cylinders. One week the offense shows up and the defense has a horrible game, and the next week the defense gives a solid effort but the offense decides to let the team down. Every year it

  • In reply to Shady:

I have been contemplating wasting money on a Bears jersey for a couple years. Glad I have not, as it would probably not have been for the right guy.

I've said it before and I'll say is again, the best player on the Chicago Bears is #9.

  • In reply to Shady:

Here's the thing regarding the Vikings...they had to rent a QB who was only playing there to stick it to his old team to even be considered a contender. The bottom line is, Favre's out of there after this year and they will be right back to square one with no quarterback...and we all know how that hurts your chances...they have absolutely no room to say anything...this is simply a one year blip on the radar screen and they will be a .500 team next year when Favre leaves... they were mediocre last year with the best player in the NFL and one of the best defenses bc they had no QB and the same will occur next year...

  • The Bears will be lucky to go 2-5 the rest of the season. That is hoping the Rams and Lions continue to play like they have. Farve is going to come in and throw all over this lack luster of a team. Last nights game is a poor excuse for a Pro team. But hey at least we still have emotionless Lovie on the sidelines. Just think of the fun there. This team is playing like Lovie's emotions flat.

  • Last night I jumped off the Jay Cutler bandwagon. He has been bad more than he has been good. He has to prove to me that he does not suck, cause right now I'm pretty sure he does. 17 picks with 7 games left. Whats the single season INT record? I'm guessing he's well on pace to break it.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

the record is 28...by one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game.

My prediction for the rest of the year:

Vikings will lose in 1st round of the playoffs amid an epic pedophilia scandal that will rock the St.Paul-Minneapolis metro area. the ringleader will be one Brad CHILDress. I can't believe no one saw it coming.
Packers will finish up 8-8 because AJ Hawk and Clay Matthews have gay hair.
Detroit will be kicked out of the league because the team has gone bankrupt and also because Culpepper called up Fred Smoot and Bryant McKinnie to come down to Rock City to "teach Stafford a lesson". (read:bang stafford with a dildo like on the Love Boat)
The Bears end up 9-7 but lose out on wildcard playoff birth because of tragic losses earlier in the season.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Just read an interesting thought on www.fireloviesmith.com:

If, instead of firing Lovie, they demote him to D-Coordinator, and start a search for a new head coach, does that work in his contract? The idea being that he would quit instead of being just the D-Coordinator, and then the organization wouldn't be on the hook for his salary.

Of course, he could stick it to the Bears as the D-Coordinator... but if so, then maybe they could demote him to Assistant LB Coach... or hire Rivera to be the Head Coach and then Lovie would surely quit.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

IBN&O..not sure about the contract..LDL has bent over so many times before to say "Thank you sir may I have another" so he might actually just bend over again as D-Coordinator.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

The last play call was beyond awful. Flooding the right side of the field w/3 receivers... the same area of the endzone they had Cutler throwing to all night, w/picks as his only reward. Maybe Olsen ran the wrong route? Hard to say... That being said he could have easily hit Earl Bennet, or even ran for the TD. I feel like he locks onto a guy when he's under pressure. What are you going to do, though? He's the QB for at least 4 more years... bear minimum. Let's hope we get him some protection, a running game, and a defense. Hope....

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I read somewhere Leslie Fraiser, CB from the '85 team and the Vike's D coordinator contract expires the end of this season. How would he look on the Bears sideline?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Anybody see this?

Tark isnt all correct, but he has some points about that Offensive Coordinator stuff.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

What concerns me most at this time is that there appears to be so many areas that need to be addressed. They tried to overhaul the O-line last off-season and, apparently, whiffed on 3 guys.

Now, in addition to how to protect the franchise (which is #1 on any list of issues to be addressed), almost everywhere you look on defense is a question mark as well.

I don't know how you fix that many leaks in one off-season.

I have previously posted that I thought it was even money that Cutler finishes the season on I.R.

It pains me to say this but I think those odds have changed.

I now make it 1 to 2 he goes down and out before week 16.

For you non-betters out there, that means you have to wager 2 bucks, just to win 1.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Kreutz shotgun snaps looked like pee dribbling out of my wang at the end of a satisfying bathroom break. one of them skipped on the ground to him and Cutler still hit DA on the sidelines for a huge first down. PUT D.A IN THE GAME!!!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Albert in Tucson..are you sure it wasn't RT wearing that lovely apparrel of a tin beanie? That is such a great visual..

I think JC was just at a place were he was doing all he could to get something going.I mean I cannot imagine when the call comes to him in the huddle I am sure many of times he is thinking WHY THIS FUCKING CALL you ASSMUNCH!!! Turner.
I do worry about his state of mind. I really beleive you beat down a great player and after a while they start to beleive they are mediocre just like the LOVIE'S Kumbaya MANTRA. It's just one game.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Is it really the GM? The coach? The play-calling?

I'm wondering where in Turner's playbook that it calls for a play requiring the quarterback to zip it through three defenders in the endzone. On the last play, was Olson out of position?
Turner should not be calling those plays -- if you give JC the time, a wide-open receiver, he's gonna make the play! He's JC Superstar! C'mon, men.

I wish somebody around here knew something about football. Sheez.

  • In reply to tkfay:

Whoever came up with the brilliant idea of putting one of the worst GMs in the history of the NFL in the booth during TNF needs to be fired. It bad bad enough having to watch such a terrible game, but the fact I had to listen to Millen color commentate that garbage was insult to injury.

Alberto, please chime in on this one...

  • In reply to Shady:

It bad bad enough? Really Shady?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I don't even think I'm going to watch the Viqueens game. First of all I hate the fucking Viqueens. Second of all, I hate Brett fucking Favre.

The defense can't stop the pass. The defense can't stop the run. Other than that they are in great shape. I don't think the defense played particularly well last night...I think the Niners' offense played like shit. Frank Gore is a good back and performed very well. Alex Smith no longer needs to wear pads. I think Rex Grossman is better than him.

Favre is going to pass for 400 yards to Berrian (assuming the expensive pussy is healthy) and Harvin. The Bears couldn't hold to 32nd ranked rushing offense to under 100 yards last week, AP should set a new single game rushing record, breaking the current one held by him.

Growing pains might be it but I think it's much deeper than that. Jeff is dead fucking wrong when he says it's not the time to talk about firing anybody. I think we need a coaching overhaul. Offense. Defense. Dave Toub can stay. Turner, Smith, Babich, Hamilton, Marinelli gone. Trade to get back into the first day of the draft and select some linemen and D-Backs. Sign a Pro Bowl Wideout free agent.

Let's get shit stirred up for Christ's sake! 2009 is done. I'm going to start looking to 2010.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

Sorry Ghost but there is no way in hell we're trading back into the 1st day of the draft. With what? All the picks we have left don't add up to 1st day value. Other than a few guys that you'd be crazy to trade, nobody else has any trade value.

I thought the D played well last night. We stacked up Gore and that's not easy. I thought the D tackled well all night. Considering Cutler was a turnover machine all night I thought the D hung in there. They gave up 3-4 runs of 10-20 yds to Gore and the rest were 5 or less. No shame in that. I agree Smith stinks but Crabtree is better than any WR we have and Vernon Davis is better than any TE we have. Not to mention Gore is way better than Forte and their OL is head and shoulders better than ours.

Also, Berrian is the BiQueens 4th or 5th option now. After Rice, Peterson, Taylor and Shiancoe. YIKES!

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

On a Minnesota station, several poeple have said they feel sorry for the bears and that they were kind of rooting for them last night like the same way you want to root for the precious little underdog that sucks so bad and you feel terrible for them. I love reading all the "blame" comments. Congrats to Cutler if indeed he did just get Turner fired last night as shady said. I will easily take one bad night of Cutler to get that douche fired. Now do something to get Lovie canned as well and I'll be a fan of yours sir. But right now, yes, you can start the Good Jay, Bad Jay comments cuz thats exactly how it is. He's Rex with more overall talent (though I'm not seeing it right now). Both have super strong arms, both take chances, gunslinger type. Cutler is more mobile and as I said just a hair better most all other aspects. But we didnt have to give up everything to get Rex and mortgage the future. We need a different TYPE of QB. I hope everyone is happy now with Jay and his style, he sure has been a lot better than we've had the previous 3 years huh? Consistency is the problem with Bears QBs and if you read that KC Joyner article like I told you to in the last thread, you'll know why.

Cutler a goat? Hester a goat? Hell, there were enough "goats" for the Bears last night to qualify as a herd and require putting out a sign that says:

Personally, I think Cutler is shell-shocked and suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Sack Disorder).

He was sacked, what? 12-15 times ALL last season? He's probably been whacked more in 9 games with the Bears that he had been in 2 seasons in Denver and maybe going back to his Vanderbilt days.

Matt Forte. First Bear back to gain 100 yards receiving since "Ultraback", Raymont Harris. Whoopee.

Er. Didn't watch the game last night (Seriously? NFL Network? Whose dicks were sucked for that decision?) BUT...

Has anybody considered that maybe Cutler is sucking on purpose? Specifically to get Turner fired?

Interesting consipracy theory, but I don't think so.

  • In reply to PhilinNYC:

so pissed last night. I dont blame cutler too much on some of the interceptions. Why? Cuz he always has to force some things to happen when mofos on the team do stupid shiiiiet like cause penalties. Cutler helps move the team up the field yet fools do things to set them back 5, 10, 15 yards

  • In reply to gpldan:

Apparently Manning is the fastest dude in all Beardom ...

  • Max, first off, you are way too good for that. That's how fake fans ran that guy out of town. Let's not do that to a young guy that could help us become contenders in the future. Second, don't you live in Hawaii you lucky bastard? The weather alone and a cinnamon girl could get me through the worst bears slump.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Gotta agree Johnny. I'm upset that Cutler had a terrible game but I won't rag on him unless he shits the bed. Rex wasn't great but he wasn't the only reason we sucked. He had a lot of help.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Amen guys! I thought coming into the year the Cutler move was great for several reasons. First, I thought this team would really take off. But secondly if it didn't it would finally shine a light on problems and issues that have been there all along.
    Well the 2nd has happened...

  • Not trying to rain on your parade but ... WTF? Being as optimistic as possible we could beat the Rams, Lions, Fudge Packers and the BiQueens at home in a blizzard. That's it. That gets us to 8-8. That's best case. We could easily lose to the Fudgies and the Queens and be 6-10.

    Go Bears!

  • Albert - you are correct. Jay is shell shocked and the crap play calling is really making him even more ineffective. Still wondering - did RT call any designed rollouts?

  • We have a talent problem. We need an upgrade on the O-line. We need a good shutdown corner. We need to move Peanut to safety and put manning in at nickel back. We need a difference maker at DE. We need a #1 WR. Turner may be gone but Lovie will be back.

Also, is there any chance that Cutler's diabetes is affecting him during these late games? Its like Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde.

Or as Dan Hampton would say, "Heckle and Jyde".

  • In reply to jdawg:

Anyone else notice how Chris Williams intentionally bumped into the refs on his way back to the huddle after getting the 15 yard personal foul penalty? Good news is he has some fire, bad news is he almost got himself tossed like Tommie Harris did last week due to being a jerk off. I'm SO LAZY (like the Bears) that I lifted the above from a website. Too tired to type anything more regarding Bears Football. I NOTICED WILLIAMS BLATANT BUMPING OF REF Late in game on a drive. What A Dumb-ass shithead thing to do. Williams sucks. FINE HIM EVEN THOUGH HE DID NOT GET CAUGHT. I'd have grabbed his facemask ala Woody Hayes and socked him in his thick ass skull. While I'm at it, how bout Olin.. How were you ever an ALL PRO CENTER when you're incapable of snapping in the GUN? Get your Da Hui ass back to the rock in the Pacific. You are soooooooooo freaking done it's scary brah! Get a surf board dude.

Anyone else notice Mark Anderson going off on some o-lineman but for some odd reason didn't get a personal foul penalty for socking the guy in the face?

  • In reply to Shady:

Totally ! As soon as Anderson socked him I though f** no ! Another Tommie/Peanut brain freeze. How the hell did they miss that ?

  • This would be a great season if Wale turned the corner and decapitated Favre.

I would forgive and forget everything if the Bears D plants Narcicuss 6 feet under.

  • In reply to gpldan:

This exact thought is what keeps me going this season. I am a diehard fan who is very apprehensive of the upcoming schedule (I remember in August being unable to wait until November), and I will watch every game. Taking the Wrangler Poster Boy out should be an unspoken priority.

  • Cutler didn't say it to Just ANY official, Ghost, he said it to that preening, prima-donna, poster-boy for incompetence,
Ed Hochuli. Ergo, Cutler gets nailed, big time.

Speaking of the officials, when did AARP start providing them?
Did you SEE last's night's crew?

ATTENTION REFEREE RON WINTER: If that is as well as you can hobble about, GET OFF THE FIELD before you get killed. Not only for your own protection but it was painfully obvious that you cannot move well enough anymore to maintain proper position to officiate.

While you're at it, take those other silver foxes with you.

Oh,and spare me any "senior citizen" backlash. I have an AARP card in my wallett and any hair on my head that isn't gray has fallen out.

Surest sign of a bad team:
Obvious fouls, like yet another GLARING Pass Interference, this time on Kellen Davis, become "no calls".

  • Along the same lines, the Michigan Wolverines can still finish 6-6 and win a bid to the prestigious Little Caesar's Bowl in Detroit.
