Five Questions For the Bears

With only one meaningful fake game remaining, I have five questions the Bears must answer before they suit up against the Packers on September 13th. (Side note: The Bears/Packers rivalry - though still wonderfully historic - has been infinitely diluted by Brett Favre's signing in Minnesota.  We can hate them all we want but they have two division games circled on THEIR calendars.  The Bears ain't involved.)

Question #1. Will Peanut Tillman and Zack Bowman be healthy enough to start on opening day?

Question #2. Is there enough gas in Tommie Harris' tank for a return to his dominant, All-Pro form in the middle?

Question #3. Can Jay Cutler get on the same page with the Devin "Under Construction" Hester in just three weeks?

Question #4. Who will return kickoffs should Danieal Manning's hamstring issues lead to a lack of burst come the start of the season?

Question #5. DA?  Brandon Rideau?  Rashied Davis?  Johnny Knox?  How many and who?

  • sweet im first

  • my best guess is
    1 probably
    2 no
    3 yes
    4 jonny knox
5 knox/rideau and they only keep 5 recievers

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

i think they keep 6 this year

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

posse, i'd be embarrassed by my wrong spelling except this program doesn't recognize the word "diluted" and offered me "deluded". instead of doing a quick search, i caved. i owe u for the catch.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

NP - we owe you for the great blog!

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    1. Yes.
    2. Doubt it.
    3. No. Not by week one. But should be there by week 5 or 6.
    4. Melton? Lol. Probably Knox.
    5. DA, Rideau, and Knox.

  • 1) Yes
    2) No
    3) Yes
    4) Knox
    5) DA

I was thinking that the NFL should start using practice jerseys for these fake games.

  • Favre is deluded; the rivalry is diluted.

    1) I hope so, but I don't feel so bad after the Gints game if they are not.
    2) Probably not - either his attitude or his knee will probably go plaid.
    3) I'm not sure anyone can get on the same page as Hester; just keep chucking it downfield, and he's bound to catch a couple of 90+ yard TDs.
    4) Johnny Knox - keeps him off the practice squad and he's pretty good at it besides.
    5) DA, Brandon and Knox - Sheed didn't do enough this preseason. Experiment over.

  • 1. no, tillman's surgery will set him back at least 4 reg season games. he will be back but will not be "back".
    2. no, he has a degenerative knee condition that will only get worse or stay the same..it will never get better.
    3. Hester will never be Steve Smith but he will stretch the field
    4. Knox
    5. DA, Rideau and Knox

  • Nice to know. It is different that we and Packers fans have a common desire right now.

  • Yes
maybe, sometimes who knows, lean towards the doubt it crowd
I have no idea I only have hope
Knox or julio englasias, even though that wont work for the amount of receivers they will have on the roster
DA, BR, JK...sorry Rash, time for new blood to ooze with Jcut

so Jc and devin need to reinact that play like a hundred times this week so it will be natural for devin to do it right next time, my god he was so wide open, hard to let go, so glad it was a meaningless game. why doesnt the media jump hester for letting Jay take the blame on that one. Jay did the right thing, but hester should rebuf it. Maybe he did, just didnt hear about it.

  • Larry Meyer's take:

In terms of a player on the roster bubble, Devin Aromashodu

  • Point #1 : Larry Mayer is a tool and his opinions are as irrelevant as political manifestos/campaign promises.

Question #1. Will Peanut Tillman and Zack Bowman be healthy enough to start on opening day?

Only their doctors know that ...

Question #2. Is there enough gas in Tommie Harris' tank for a return to his dominant, All-Pro form in the middle?

Only Tommie knows that ... but if he ain't doing it early then he needs to be benched, I don't care what's on his contract, we cannot carry his fat ass the way we did last year if he's not up to it. No way. We love ya Tommie but don't pretend you're okay if you're not.

Question #3. Can Jay Cutler get on the same page with the Devin "Under Construction" Hester in just three weeks?

Doesn't matter if he does or not. Hester should be returning kickoffs and punts anyway, that's what he's best at, that's what he should be doing. Occasional appearances at WR would be welcome of course as a decoy/deep threat. Bennett, Rideau and Aromashodou are the real receivers on the team.

Question #4. Who will return kickoffs should Danieal Manning's hamstring issues lead to a lack of burst come the start of the season?

Duh. Who else ? Mr. Ridiculous.

Question #5. DA? Brandon Rideau? Rashied Davis? Johnny Knox? How many and who?

6 - Hester, Rideau, Bennett, D.A., Knox, Kinder - bye bye Rashied ... Iglesias to practice squad until he learns something ...

  • Kinder had a nice runback too, if Hester gets too big for his boots when Manning goes down ...
