For any of you who dont get the NFL Network like me, try this out tonight http://www.atdhe.net/6132/watch-nfl-network
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!
Eric Kuselias, one of the few 4-Letter Network radio hosts I respect and enjoy and who automatically improves ANY of the shows he fills in on, notably MIKE & MIKE and COLIN COWHERD, said the following about the Buffalo Bills this morning on his regular show:
"This is the WORST OFFENSIVE LINE in football".
And he was EMPHATIC about it.
Translation: Rod Marinelli's "Rushmen" had BETTER be seen getting after the QB tonight!
Eric also interviewed Jeff Dickerson from ESPN 1000 in Chicago, about the Bears and Dickerson echoed my guess about Cutler's workload tonight. 2 series and/or 12-15 plays.
He also said expect to see a lot of Kevin Jones and sang the praises of Earl Bennett and the obvious chemistry with JC. Their discussion also made me aware of the fact that Bennett is not just the ALL-TIME leader in receptions Vandy, but in the entire SEC, which has turned out more than a couple of decent NFL wideouts.
Can't wait...gonna have to buy the good beer tonight and start this season off right.
Keep your heads about the game...it is the first preseason game, can't expect everything to be perfectly in sync. Let's enjoy some FOOTBALL and hope for no injuries.
Im already drinking!!!!!! lets get this fucking shit goin! did anybody watch the denver game yesterday? thank god we dont have orton anymore. lol bye bye.......... i get nfl network!!!!!1
I made it, had surgery yesterday and they let me out in time to see the game. Thought I was going to miss it, but I made it home. Can't drink or any of that shit but at least I can see the game. Just read KO didn't have a good first outing. Come on Kyle that's enough of that crap. Better luck next week. 40 minutes to kick off! Can't wait!
JAY minus 29 minutes and counting!
That INT was Grossmanesque...Jay and Hester certainly have some chemistry to work on, but it will come in time.
which one?
I guess both.
ugh. 1st team D still can't get off the field on 3rd down. did play the no huddle well.
did = didn't oops.
The INT I saw was Grossman-like, I missed the first INT because NFL Netowrk didn't transtion to the game until 10 min left in the 1st qtr. Was the 1st one Grossman-like too? Cutler scares me. He is under .500 for HS, college and pro career. Must make A LOT of mistakes. He better cut that shit out now.
He actually only threw one INT. He had a terrible throw that should have been though, and that throw, was probably worse than the actual interception. I wouldn't sweat it too much. He will throw some picks this year no doubt, but he is no Grossman. I'm pretty damned excited to see what he can do once we get to the real season.
Alright, show em' how it's done Caleb!!!
Ok, Caleb,we've got the fumbles down good, big finish now!
The 1st unit o-line still look like a work in progress, not going to be to critical.Alot of new guys an I expect them to get better.
Afalava and Turrene have been playmakers so far. Steltz with a nice poke...not seeing alot of passes defended, except by Turrene.
For a good stretch of the 2nd quarter, the Bears had 3 Davis' on offense. Jason, Rashied, and Kellen.
Wolfe had a good stretch there too; nice catch on the screen pass from Hanie, and some good tough running too.
14 days and counting to Denver.
That's what I'm talkin' about Caleb!!!
offense not worried about but the Defense? VASHER?he sucks bad we need free agent help now! not 3 more games in get 2 or 3 guys who wanna cover and peanut coming off injury will Not be the answer!
Johnny Knox: Kick off returner sounds good to me! Little WR action on the side.
looks like it will be Tillman and Bowman starting at corners with Vasher the most expensive bu corner in the nfl.
Guys, its going to take the O a while to gel. Especially with no Olsen and Forte.
one more td and we will have allowed more scoring than any team so far in the preseason.
Bears did not look good tonight, offensively or defensively. Cutler looked average, the lack of talent at WR was evident and again, no pass rush. Offensive line did not break open many holes for the running game. I am hoping this is Lovie Smith's last season in Chicago!
I understand that RT wanted to get some passing work for cutler thus they hardly ran, but they work together, you want balance on that drive, you want to see the well oiled machine drive down the field getting first downs and capping it off with a TD. Then you let them trot off the field beaming of confidence and bring in the back ups. The int was a lame duck short pass that should have been a great big play, but it goes back to play calling also. The D never had to protect the run it was easy to see that they just needed to do pass coverage the whole time JC was in, they ran like what one time?
The idea is you dont gameplan, understood, you dont want the teams scouting what you will do in the regular season, right?
Its all of the game plan to give the other teams a false sense of security. right?
I waited 8 months for that.
Any more doubts about Caleb as Back up QB?
Uhm, yeah, I think that cements Caleb as the backup.
Sure, the 1st INT that Johnny Knox juggled was not Brett's fault.
The second one, not so much.
The third one, I'm sure the coaches aren't counting against him.
But aside from the INTs, BB just didn't look like he was in command.
Not worried in general; we got blown out by San Fran in the 06 preseason opener, and they absolutely sucked donkey nuts that year.
Bullocks looked like crap - there's a surprise.
Going to go back and watch the first half again tonight.
That was bull shit. Pretty sloppy play all around. Cutler was shaky as hell, he looked tentative and had poor mechanics. The o-line was a disaster again. No running room, and Jay was under constant pressure. And on defense I certainly didn't see any improvement off of last year. No pass rush, and easy completions on 3rd and long again and again. What the fuck have they been doing the last couple of weeks in camp?
The positives as I saw them were Caleb Hanie, the Bears MVP of the night. He looked great, good mobility and accuracy. Impressive. I also thought Johnny Knox had a little Berrian to him. He stood out at wr to me. He did have the drop but looked fairly polished overall.
Overall though, I'm pretty disapointed in this effort.
man i was EXCITED getting off work to watch the Bears tear a HOLE into Buffalo...
....then i woke up to that bullshit. what a horrible display of pass defense.....goddamn CAN WE BREAK UP A PASS?!?!??!?! I don't give a flying fuck if it's 2nd, 3rd, or 4th team....get your ass in there and break up a pass. Lovie, Marinelli, and that Secondary coach have A LOT of work to do.
o and Cutler....even though that's his first game, that wasn't pretty. we'll chalk that up to not fully knowing the playbook yet.
lol. It's friggin' preseason
Yes, and remmeber, Buffalo had already played a game. Hoiwever, first pre-season tilt or not, the immortal, Trent Edwards, was 10 for 10 against the first team "defense".
Where's my Afalava jersey?
those are all excuses. yea it's preseason, but seriously....how many passes got broken up? let's hope that they learned from this come next game (and they probably need time to gel a lil' more)
O-line looked OK tho
on the plus side i didnt see any reason today not to trust hanie as the backup, and you have to have liked seeing melton return a kick
oh yeah, its nice to see that gould can hit the 50 yarders
WTF. It is just a preseason game. Don't put the razor blades to the wrists just yet.
Irregardless of the turnovers or the first string offensive performance, one stat stands out to me the most. The first and second string QB's of the Bills were 23 of 26 for 223 yards. The defensive line caused some pressure but the defensive backfield looked bad, really bad.
Never good seeing another qb go 10 for 10 or your new franchise quarterback look like your old franchise qb in the first preseason game...but c'mon people, try and remember that it was the first preseason game. If the trend continues in the next couple of games feel free to get your panties in a bunch, but chill the hell out.
Positives: Afalava impressed me. We need depth, especially at safety, and he looks like he can handle himself at strong safety if need be. Hanie looked excellent.
So... the Cutler hype goes from like a 9 to a 6...
Yeah, Jay looked a little shakey last night. But they were switching out personal pretty fast. Again, Hanie showed even better than last year. Hope they pay enough to keep him around. If JCut doesn't cut it for some reason, at least I feel somewhat comfortable with Caleb taking command should it come to that, which I doubt will happen. I think Jay will get things goin'.
a glorified scrimmage.
Heard John Stashower (sp)on the 4-Letter network this morning (who thinks the bears are HIGHLY OVERATED) say that "Jay Cutler blamed Devin hester for the interception". So i checked it out in the Trib and found this Quote in David Haugh's column: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-16-haugh-jay-cutler-bears-aug16,0,191068.column "Devin is more of a go-get-it guy," Cutler is quoted as saying "He's not really a back-shoulder, jump-up-and-get-it [guy] and ... you learn from it. You make some mistakes. It's a preseason game." Sorry, Jay, but I do NOT care for the tone of THAT explanation. How about something more to the point like "It was a ball I not only threw up for grabs
like I was still a snot-nosed rookie, but it was also underthrown and I apologize for evoking images of Rex Grossman at his worst."
That being said, I think Stashower took some liberties with his statement as well.
The offensive scheme sucks. RT still blows. Bring in Mike Shanahan as our new head coach!
sheesh... let's not get all chicken little after the first preseason game
you know what I say bullshit, you come in there and your going to get 1-3 good series from your first team offense. even one good series would be fine. The run's off the bus team goes out to show off their shiny new toy. pass, pass, pass, punt, run, pass, pass, pass/int, then they run, run, pass punt, then after the muff (I said muff) its pass pass run pass/fg.
and yes if you watch the J interview on da site, he does appear to blame Hester for that lame duck underthrown crap interception that was clearly his fault, he gets that over the defenders head and Hester is gone.
Im not excited or anything, yes it's preseason, but they need to show a flash of brilliance while they are doing their evaluations. Tackling was terrible, Urlacher looked good, Hanie was ok, Rash made a case for himself mr preseason, afalava was good, des clark. anyways, the fans need to see that flash so they can hold the torch, chicago wants results, I dont want to win these preseason games, I like to go at least 500 or win the 3rd one, but I want to see moments of brilliance, one or two plays doesnt cut it, a sustained drive does it for me.
Lets see the difference next week and see if I freak out.
who the fuck does Jay stare down when it's his fuck up. Im telling you Hester was way past the defender, that throw just needs to be as advertised that he was capable of through all of camp.
Make note the ES#@ play by play of each of his misses online:
-thrown behind receiver
-overthrown
-intercepted single coverage near sideline (dont mention massive underthrown wounded duck)
-Receiver underthrown nearly intercepted
-incomplete, pass tipped, receiver in the back of endzone
Im venting now, Im not concerned yet, but this is not supposed to make you happy. You dont just blow it off, it needs attention.
ESPN is just trying to generate headlines off of a f-cking preseason game.
The quote about Hester is accurate; he is not Brandon Marshall or Randy Moss...he is a BURNER. You do NOT throw a jump-ball to Devin and expect him to win that battle. If anything, you overthrow it and let him run it down. That is what I got from Jay's quote...it's a matter of figuring out what your guys can and can't do. If that was Olsen on the sideline, I'd expect him to come down with the ball in that matchup because he'd be sporting a 5" height advantage over the d-back. Hester WAS a d-back; he doesn't have that type of physical advantage.
It's a tempest in a teacup.
Christ, we finally get a franchise quarterback and he's getting ripped by our own fans after one quarter of a preseason game.
You don't live in Denver, people. You live in (or just root for) Chicago.
(thanks, Sam Wyche).
You know I am good with it only being a preseason game, like i said I dont care if we win or lose, but where was something positive in regard to all of our concerns over the last several years, was there more than a play or two. I just wanted one drive whether it resulted in points or not doesnt matter, I want to see the bears drive the football 60-80 yards unincombered looking like a well oiled machine, I want to see this one time, I have wanted it for a long long time. now we have a qb and it should happen, yet the play calling was sad again and I hope this is not a preview of things to come. we can vent. JC underthrew the ball there was no jumping necessary, Hester had his guy beat by a mile when you beat your guy there is no need for creating a jump ball scenario that your guy needs to fight for. Jay should acknowledge it. Devin on the other hand needs at the least to become a defender rather than stand there watching (ala bernard berrian) a guy cut in front of him and take the ball from under his nose.
and Christ doesnt have anything to do with it brother bears fan.
I thought he was wearing #6 for us this year...my bad!
