Dress Rehearsal Liveblog - Denver

8:00 PM
Over/under on incorrect team assessments from the broadcasting team.  7.5.

8:01
Hahaha.  Can you imagine going to a preseason game and whining about losing a player?  Denver, man, get over it. Your coach tried to get Matt Cassell behind Jay's back.  (Nice job by Michaels bringing that up.)

8:03
"Shakespeare would never have written a play about a preseason football game.  But had he, this would have been the game."
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we've all just heard the most inane comment ever made in the history of athletic broadcasting.

8:07
Head coaches shouldn't be that young.  McDaniels is like 12.

FIRST DRIVE - DEFENSE
1. Great play on first down by Ogunleye.  Good push up front.
2. Tru McBride is not a starting cornerback.
3. Tommie Harris was not part of the Super Bowl run, Collinsworth.  He played 12 games that year.  He is given way more credit than he deserves.
4. Orton stinks.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM JEFF HUGHES:
Liveblogging is boring as shit.  I'll be back at the end of the game.

  • whose doing the game with michaels? collinsworth?

  • Rash is a beast on special teams....

  • Rashied is making his case to make the team, had a tackle on the kickoff then the punt.

  • what the fuck, the online audio stream is a number of minutes behind the actual action. either that or you are all hovering over da blog more than i am.

  • Great push on 3rd & 2. Hester brain fart on the PR.

  • Hester should have fair caught the first punt, then he fair catches one inside the 5 yard line WTF

  • hovering

  • usually the stream is behind....

  • He is just trying to setup a big drive for the O

  • Orlando Pace just got schooled on the outside. Concern?

  • That should be a safety for holding in the end zone. Dumervil ate Orlando for lunch.

  • Do you see the NBC camera shaking from the noise when the Bears are under center?

  • Is the Denver fan base really this jazzed about a preseason game?

  • Why was Omiyale 5 yards downfield on that 3rd down?

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

that was supposed to be a screen pass there from the endzone...

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

    i fucking hate preseason injuries.

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

    mcbride. seriously?

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

Just like our boy roy said, Kyle is solid in the middle of the field. Lame tackling.

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

jeff - mcdaniels is your coach, and before playing a single game he got rid of your stud qb, is in a battle with your stud wr and youre staring down what looks to be a brutal season. This could be the only meaningful game they play this year.

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

I am really liking Pisa, the guy is everywhere the ball is...did you see him chase Royal down?

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Pisa is looking like a Beast!!

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Forte is wonderful. Take him out.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

No passes down the field yet.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    Jason McKie here?

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    GREAT FUCKING PLAYCALL. GREAT TOUCH.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Hahaha. What the hell are they doing?

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    Orlando got beat again.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    Beautiful stay-at-home play by Adams.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Alex Brown kept it real there...

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Attention Offensive line: Game has started. Put your asses in gear!
No downfield completions in the first quarter that reqired decent pass protection.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Denver's defense is fired up tonight, and playing with alot of emotion. I'm still concerned about the Bears' "D" going into the season.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Offensive Line looks pretty bad all around in both pass protection and the run.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

I couldn't hit my sand wedge any better than that punt

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    Welcome back, Devin Hester!!

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    That's the Hester I love!!!

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

I JUST SPLOOGED ALL OVER MYSELF, THE TELEVISION, THE PEOPLE IN THE NEARBY COUNTY, YOU NAME IT. NOW HE KNOWS HE AND WE KNOW HE STILL HAS IT, SO I'M GOOD. DONT PUT HIM OUT THERE AGAIN UNTIL THE REGULAR SEASON.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

What a truly terrible illegal contact call on Payne.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Man, special teams are really special tonight...more good Devin please!!

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

They haven't run a good slant all preseason. I can't figure out why.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Bennett knocked the crap out of the DB before making that play.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Did Chris Collingsworth just say that Olsen, his wife and Cutler are having a threesome?

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

yeah... that was pretty funny... I hate Collinsworth... he annoys the shit out of me...

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

sounded to me like there was a lot of Denver fans cheering Hester's runback.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Good question. Personally, I think the 98-yard drive to end the half is all we need to see from any of the starters.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

OK, Cutler & Forte done for the evening. Glad to hear it.

Anyone else notice that Andrea Kremer's sideline reporting tonight has been limited to actually relevant topics (like injuries and who's done for the night). Is it too much to hope that this is a sign of things to come in the regular season?

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

That may be the greatest punt I have ever seen.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Oh, Rideau has to catch that ball. And immediately following that drop, R. Davis makes another great special teams play. There is no way Davis does not make this team.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

brian, got wiffed. Looks like the #1 D is still of the field, they need to keep the pressure on, they are letting the back up qb make them look foolish now. Maybe I am being premature.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Strange to see Alex Brown lose contain like that.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

    Bend but don't break baby!!

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Thank you Al Michaels. That roughing call on AB was horseshit.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

finally brian got some penetration ( said penetration)

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

then he guessed wrong thinking up the middle. Im not crazy with what I am seeing on the D right now.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

still not getting enough comfort level from the D right now..

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

Wow, nice freakin' interior line blocking by the 2nd string.

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

In what universe did Forte hold on that play? Guns' crew is in midseason suck form.

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

I think cause he grabbed his leg... gay call

  • In reply to brandonpurcell:

alright, Im good, bench the starters and use the rest of the game to evaluate Caleb and which receivers are going to make the team.

  • In reply to tcrawfor7:

Let's see what we can do with some decent field position....

  • The Bears just plain suck tonight.

Except for that third down stop (thank you Pisa).

  • Mckie and Rash look to be making the team as they were in the starting lineup, Hester hooking up Jay with some great field position, can't get a first down at 3rd and two.

Lets get the jitters out and start playing some football. the D needs a turnover, come on Kyle lets see a lefty trhow.

  • gang tackling looks nice so far

  • that was supposed to be a screen pass there from the endzone...
