I woke up to my wife telling me that David Bowie had died.
"What? How?" I said. "Cancer," she said. I didn't know he had cancer.
The first two singles from his new record, Blackstar, were really dark. Maybe this was a hint?
That's what everyone is saying now. That this record was his final goodbye.
It had lyrics, costumes, and video, and sent me further reeling into the realm of David Bowie.
So incredible to watch, and even better to listen to. Since the exhibit, my favorite song has become "(Is There) Life on Mars?"
I've always liked the song. But seeing the lyrics, outfits, and his expansive art, was really moving. I went home with that song in my head and it's never left.
I haven't heard all of the new record yet, but the reviews are saying it's all "doom and gloom."
Once again using his art to express his feelings, this time, he knew the end was inevitable.
Writing his 25th album, while fighting cancer, could not have been easy.
Thank you for making one last record Starman. Rest in peace, we will never forget you.
