An album that might have went under the radar of everybody's Top Ten of 2011 was Mine Is Yours, by the Cold War Kids. Their third installment is a little bit happier, after the germination of angst that played out on the first two records. Those feelings were exorcised on records like "We Used To Vacation," where Nathan Willett describes the "alcoholic family man, telling of his struggle against his alcoholism in order to be responsible to his family."
Now they are trying to "Skip The Charades," and focus more on positive thoughts, like lead single "Mine Is Yours." A great song about relationships and sharing. It goes deeper, but you get the point. Songs like "Royal Blue, "Finally Begin," and "Bulldozer," all seem more upbeat and house this undeniable pep. "Flying Upside Down" runs parallel to positive too. The instrumentation makes you feel like your inside of that plane flying high above the earth. Wind at your wings and nothing but clear skies, it's a good feeling.
My favorite song happens to be "Broken Open," with it's brooding honesty. The instrumentation, is sparse, like a Coldplay song, giving room for the vocals to breathe. Another song that shows a promising future while learning from past experiences. It's refreshing to see a band and it's writers unafraid to grow. Sometimes it can be scary taking a new direction, especially one that beams happiness (we seem to encourage the depressed). But the risk pays off here. A year later, I'm still listening to this album, and it's inspiring.
You were changin’ colours like the leaves in fall
I was savin’ up for the long winter
Summers wind, hideout in my car
When it broke down we didn’t care
We’d figure out another way to get me there
Mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
A realistic love runs out of room
I try to talk big but my mouth don’t move
Cuz I don’t own the sun I don’t own the moon
They only come out when they want to
They don’t care whether I promised you
They only come out when they want to
They don’t care whether I promised
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
You wanna fight about it
You wanna fight about it
You wanna fight about it
Come on, Come on
I made you cry about it
I made you cry about it
I made you cry about it
Come on, Come on
There was no other way
To let you in here to stay
We had to give it away
Come on, Come on
And when we come up for air
And when we come up now we know
All my stones become your pearls
All of my trials are your treasures
All my dead you inherit
All of my ?crimson? lines will shine
Cuz Mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours
What is mine is yours is yours is yours is yours

Great album and I pretty much wore it out. I had a new favorite song every other week while listening and my favorite during my last go around was Out of the Wilderness. Good stuff!
I don't like the synthetic atmospherics in the background. You hear something in this song I don't.
Their first single, the name escapes me, was an excellent song; that debut was strong, too.
Man, i lost track of these guys. Cool song. Sounds like they're looking back a little to look ahead.
Yeah, CWK are still alive and well! They keep changing their sound and progressing, so should be good for awhile.
