25 Love Songs

I am not a cook.  I have never even tried my hand at it because I have never had an interest.  Besides that, I am way too lazy.  I would rather spend my time doing a million other things, like playing guitar, or video games for starters.  I'm a huge fan of leftovers and Lean Cuisines.  I can make a meal out of chips and salsa if need be, but cook for myself; no way.

A friend told me that the greatest gift I could give my wife for Valentine's Day, would be to cook her a meal.  She is hands down the most amazing cook and baker I have ever come across, so this idea didn't stick at first.  Two years on now, and it's starting to become a tradition for me to cook, on this holiday for lovers.

So, yesterday I tried topping last years steak and potato dinner with some Stuffed Pork Cutlets.  At first this seemed daunting, but after getting  directions from the great folks at Mariano's, I felt better about the task.  I know, I know, this isn't a food blog.  The meal is just a small part of the story, but I was proud.  I usually grill, and never bake.  When the meat turned out great, I was ecstatic!  It was succulent, and I felt accomplished.  So, I got to thinking... maybe I will start that food blog?  Psyche!

Last year at dinner I played an amazing  EP from Carl Henry Brueggen, for the perfect, jazzy, upbeat mood.  This year for atmosphere I thought I would try the free "25 Love Songs" sampler from the generous folks at Noisetrade.  It was really cool!  It introduced me to some artists I knew, and a bunch of other artists I had never heard.  I had to keep going over to my Bose station to check my iPod, for the name of the artists that I liked.

One of the bands that I took away from the sampler was a group called Leagues.  I ended up hitting repeat throughout the night, and had to learn more this morning.  I got up thinking about that song...who was that band again?

The song from the "25 Love Songs" sampler was a happy little slice of pop rock called "Safety," by the band Leagues.  After looking into this band more, I found myself enjoying a few other songs too.  They add a little bit of blues in their sound, and sometimes reminded me of the Stone Roses, with Paul Simon singing.  Check out the beautiful "Haunted (the video above)."  Then, go DL that free sampler, if only for the song "Safety."  It might be an older song, but you need to hear it.  I also really liked the funky sounds of "Magic."

I'm glad I tried something new this year, both with food and music.  The more I try new things, the bigger my world seems to get.  I will look out for Leagues, and hope to make the Jalapeno Stuffed Pork Cutlets next.

Yes, I 'm 'bout as cheesy as aged cheddar...
