We have already reached July and that means the All-Star break is right around the corner and the month of June saw some top Cubs prospects get the call as Willson Contreras and Jeimer Candelario made their MLB debuts. With that being said there were still plenty of guys to chose from as multiple prospects continue to produce great seasons. Here are the Cubs minor league hitter and pitcher of the month:

Hitter:

Ian Happ is starting to establish himself as the best overall hitting prospect in the Cubs farm system. The 2015 first round draft pick began the season in Myrtle Beach, but after slashing .361/.461/.607 in 19 games during June, the Front Office promoted him to Double-A Tennessee. Happ quickly justified the call up as he collected 11 hits with two home runs and two doubles in his first five games with the Smokies. In his 102 PA's in June, the switch hitting second baseman produced a gaudy .422/.500/.699 with nine doubles and four home runs while also posting more walks than strikeouts (16:15 BB-K). It will be intriguing to see how quickly he moves through system as he has shown he can hit no matter the level.

Pitcher:

Preston Morrison was another Cubs draft pick in 2015 as he was taken in the 8th round, but the right hander has flown under the radar much of the year. The North Carolina native changed that with five standout starts in June posting a 4-1 record for the South Bend Cubs. In just over 32 innings, Morrison posted a 0.83 ERA paired with a 0.86 WHIP with 26 strikeouts and only five walks. He highlighted his month on June 16th against Lake County tossing seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in the win.
