The Cubs beat the Pirates 3-2 on Thursday to take 2-out-of-3 and win the first series of the 2013 season.  And Carlos Marmol added a save to the hold he "earned" on Monday.

But that makes it sound like Marmol is pitching well early in the season. Simply put, the statistics are misleading. On Thursday, in his second appearance of the season, the Cubs closer did his best to blow the lead ... again.

As Marmol's performance kept getting worse he became a trending topic on Twitter. It began when Cubs fan started to worry as Marmol warmed up in the bullpen, growing to a fevered pitch as the Pirates scored twice and threatened to tie the game with runners on the corners before Marmol could retire his first batter. But a strike out and double play gave the Cubs their second win of the year.
