Winds saved us early
Cost us a run in the eighth
Cold slap in the face
The Trib's caption for the photo accompanying this post was "It's quiet around Wrigley Field early Thursday." Sadly, it was quiet in and around Wrigley Field late Thursday, too.
Dempster was impressive with 10 Ks, but the Nats might have had a couple of home runs without the wind. And in the eighth, the wind held Ian Stewart to a one-out triple and pinch runner Joe Mather was later thrown out at home.
From where we sat it looked like Kerry Wood had a couple of strike outs - either of which would have ended the eighth with the Cubs ahead 1-0, but the ump thought otherwise and the game was tied before Wood could get the one out he needed.
Then Marmol came in to pitch the ninth, which also didn't work out as planned.
Not what Cubs fans wanted on the first day of the Theocracy.
