Decision Day for Sveum: Some thoughts from players and the uncertainty that lies ahead

Decision Day for Sveum: Some thoughts from players and the uncertainty that lies ahead
Today is decision day, or more accurately, it’s announcement day.  Whatever the decision is, it has already been made and if the players have their say, then it appears they’d like to have Sveum back.  Of course, it’s not up to them — something they all freely admit, and perhaps they’d say that publicly no... Bad. Cards 7 Cubs 0.

Maybe it was the foul stench of last night’s Rams performance mixing with the already present toxins in the St. Louis sky. But tonight’s Cardinals-Cubs game had a cloud of doom hovering over it since about 3:00 this afternoon and made tonight’s drubbing very gloomy and hard to watch. Unless you were a Cardinals fan.... Could Brad Ausmus be a top candidate to replace Sveum?

Could Brad Ausmus be a top candidate to replace Sveum?
UPDATE 11:25 AM: Just heard from a source that there is more than speculation to this.  Confirmed that if the Cubs do part ways with Sveum, that Brad Ausmus would indeed be on the “short list” to replace him.  Joe Girardi would presumably be on that list as well. A hat tip is in order... Read more »

Double Take: Sveum fate to be decided on Monday

Double Take: Sveum fate to be decided on Monday
The Top 50 Prospect series will return later today but right now the manager situation and how it’s being handled is on my mind. Dale Sveum’s fate is to be decided on Monday and I have to admit I have some mixed feelings on the matter.  While the rallying cry from the media and many... Read more »

Mean robots suck! Braves 9 Cubs 5.

Mean robots suck! Braves 9 Cubs 5.
The one thing you could say about the new regime Cubs was that they lacked the ridiculousness and embarrassment of the pratfall Cubs in the past. There was no Kent Merker, Michael Barrett, or Carlos Zambrano moments where you’re seeing a team just fall apart at the seems. Well…… tick that box my friends. The... Read more »

Kiss the floor. Reds 6 Cubs Zilch.

Kiss the floor. Reds 6 Cubs Zilch.
On a hot, miserable, swamp ass day, the Cubs packed up the cats early and barely threw in an effort in their 6-0 loss to the Reds today. The Reds got on the board first with two very exciting RBI groundouts. Then in the next inning Devin Mesoraco auditioned for the sequel to “the Natural”... Read more »

The Anarchist's Brunch- I think.

The Anarchist's Brunch- I think.
So I have tried to put this season into perspective. I’ve tried to look at other aspects of this season to judge if this season has been successful. Not the draft because they were going to draft players anyway. And I don’t know if there’s a player acquired in this trading season that I think... Read more »

Castro and Arrieta mental game key to Cubs future

Castro and Arrieta mental game key to Cubs future
Recently I was having an issue watching Cubs games. Not surprising? Well it had less to do with what was happening on the field, and more of a mental issue. I found myself overanalyzing everything. I couldn’t just simply watch the game anymore. Then one game recently, I sat so close to the action it... Read more »

Summer, it turns me upside down. Cubs 4 Phils 3.

Summer, it turns me upside down. Cubs 4 Phils 3.
Cubs took the field trying to wipe the taste out of their mouths of yesterdays come from ahead loss at Wrigley Field. And while they tried to give the game away, in the end a few key plays and some gritty pitching helped lead the North siders to a win.  This game was a see... Read more »

Motel money murder madness. Let's change the mood from glad to sadness. Dodgers 4 Cubs 0.

Motel money murder madness. Let's change the mood from glad to sadness. Dodgers 4 Cubs 0.
After the the most unexpected game of the 2013 season, the Cubs turned around and gave us a very, very predictable game today at Chavez Ravine. Pancake like flat were the Cubs as they meekly flailed their lumber at Uber average starter Ricky Nolasco. Where as they battled against Clayton Kershaw, they surrendered as they... Read more »
