  • We need innings from Mills. 6 would make me happy.

This whole experience is just crazy. So many agendas pulling things in so many different directions. I wouldn't blink if the season was cancelled in the middle of the 6th.

I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts, but it's difficult for me to get invested. I'll just crack open a cold White Claw (?) and try to enjoy a basketball game.

A truly underrated Hendrix tune, and the title may be what we're facing very soon:

"Many moons passed and more the dream grew strong,
Until tomorrow he would sing his first war song,
    And fight his first battle,
    But something went wrong.
Surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night."

And so castles made of sand,
    Melts into the sea... eventually."

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to Mike Pilbean:

That’s how I felt after seeing this lineup posted.

Joe is that you? We put a mediocre lineup out there when we have our #5 starter going. Feels like one of Madison’s get-away day lineups. Before the game started the Reds WPA was 63%.

  • In reply to rbrucato:

Javy's about to put a serious swing on that WPA.

  • In reply to Mike Pilbean:

    Or not.

  • Good at bat Nico.

  • In reply to 44slug:

    x2

  • Nicky 2 Bags and Nick 4 Bags has shown up. I like that guy.

Mills is not only pitching well but doesn’t have a high pitch count yet. Maybe he can get through at least 6 but more likely 7. The more the better.

  • Nico is not ready. All prospects are the same, and all need X amount of seasoning and X amount of PA's in the minor leagues. If you bring up any player before they are ready, failure will crush any possibility of future development. Nico is not ready because he has not checked these generic boxes that are required of all amateur players. There, I said it!

Actually, I've never said that. In fact, I've said the exact opposite. Players are different, and handle success and failure differently. I've always said Nico "Suave".

    Coming soon: Burl Carraway.

    Stay tuned!

  • Good spot for Javy homerun. Did Ross green light 3-0?

    In reply to 44slug:

44, I don't know if you saw this but Mike Trout did something he had never done before in his major league career. What did he do--he
hit a 3-0 pitch for a HR. Amazing. The best player in the last 30 years and it's only taken him a little over 9 years to do that.

  • In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

Odd that he hadn't done that before. I would question if he is the best player in the last 30 years, though.

I'm going further back than that. Trout is a beast. If he stays healthy...

  • In reply to Mike Pilbean:

Javy's 1st bomb was on a 3-0 pitch. He was asked about it after the game.

"I usually swing hard", Baez said of the 3-0 count. "I don't like wasting that pitch."

  • In reply to Mike Pilbean:

I saw an interesting stat tonight. 14 hits is the fewest allowed by starters first time through the rotation since 1901.

Is that for the Cubs or all teams?

It's 1-8 that we've done pretty well, it's the 9th inning that's given us problems. How about an easy 1,2,3 game over?

  • Javy with his 2nd bomb of the night. Mills 6 strong. As you can probably imagine, I'm feeling a little happy.

Must be the 3 White Claws.

  • In reply to Mike Pilbean:

Maybe you need to wait until after the sieve gets the 27th out

  • In reply to stix:

I was cautious. With this pen, nothing is assumed.

Anyone thinking I'm drinking White Claws doesn't know me. That was a sarcastic hint.

Cubs win! Cubs win! Holy Cow!

  • Great win. In the short season when you can win with your #5 going it is HUGE.

Way to step, boys. No let up now.

  • Already a 4 game lead on NL central champs the Cincinnati Reds.

  • Oops 3 game lead. That took the edge off of my sarcasm.

  • In reply to bleachercreature:

Nah. You're just 24 hours early.
