Cubs in the Off-Season Leagues – Week 17

Good morning! All the action in the off-season leagues this past week was Down-Under, as playoffs eliminated the opportunities for many Cubs prospects. For more scores and highlights, take a look inside.

Canberra Cavalry

After a week off due to the serious brushfires in Australia, Canberra was back in action on Wednesday as they succumbed to Brisbane 12-2. Jerrick Suiter got the Horsemen on the board in the second inning as he walloped his 4th homer of the season. For the game, Suiter was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Brisbane 12 - Canberra 2

The Cavalry bounced back on Thursday against Brisbane by banging out 15 hits in an 11-4 thrashing of the Bandits. Right fielder Jerrick Suiter was part of the hit parade as he went 3-for-5 in the victory. Canberra 11 - Brisbane 4

A series that has had some wild fluctuations swung Brisbane's way on Friday, as veteran pitcher Tim Atherton had Canberra's number in an 8-1 loss. Jerrick Suiter moved to first base and was 1-for-3 with a double for the night. Brisbane 8 - Canberra 1


Jen Ho Tseng

Jen Ho Tseng

Former Cubs pitching prospect Jen-Ho Tseng has signed to play with Aukland Tuatara of the Australian Baseball League this winter. Tseng started and struck out 4 in 3 innings on Sunday. Aukland 16 - Sydney 2

  • Terrible fires down there. Tragic.

    Some good stories though: Sounds like a lot of folks pulled together though, to help save a lot of the wild life. Even the animals helped each other. Read where wombats allowed other species into their habitat to help save them. Planes dumping carrots & potatoes for food. On & on.

    I wasn’t a big fan of Tseng, but I hope he does well.
