Carlos Sepulveda

The LMP championship series started on Monday with Obregon spotting Jalisco two runs and then scoring eight as they took Game 1 8-3. Carlos Sepulveda was the starting second baseman and went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Obregon 8 - Jalisco 3

On Tuesday, the championship series evened up at 1-1 as the Yaquis bowed to Jalisco 6-4. Second baseman Carlos Sepulveda drove in a run with a ground out in the second inning in the loss. Jalisco 6 - Obregon 4

There was not quit for the Tribe on Thursday as they rallied from both six and seven run deficits to beat Jalisco 10-9. Carlos Sepulveda was on fire, as the second baseman was 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI, and a run scored. Sepulveda was so hot, he was intentionally walked to load the bases in the eighth inning and set up the winning run. Obregon 10 - Jalisco 9

Venzuelan Winter League

Cardenales de Lara

Amid a cloud of uncertainty, the VWL finals continued on Saturday with Caracas forcing a Game 5 as Lara lost to the Leones 8-4. Lefty Luis Lugo was summoned in the third inning as starter David Martinez walked the first batter. Lugo gave up a double,  a single, and uncorked a wild pitch as he allowed two runs (1 earned) in 0.1 innings. Caracas 8 - Lara 4

Australian Baseball League

Brisbane Bandits

As Brisbane finished their weekend series with Geelong-Korea on Sunday, they ended up in a first-place tie with Sydney following a 4-3 win. Wynton Bernard returned to left field and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Brisbane 4 - Geelong 3

The ABL playoffs began on Friday and the Bandits celebrated with seven home runs in an 18-1 thrashing of Canberra. Left fielder Wynton Bernard got into some of the fun by going 1-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Brisbane 18 - Canberra 1

On Saturday, it looked as if Canberra would go down to another crushing defeat by Brisbane. But five runs in the top of the eighth turned the tide with the Bandits ending up losing 8-6. Wynton Bernard returned to play left field and was 1-for-4 in the loss. Canberra 8 - Brisbane 6

Geelong-Korea

On Sunday, Geelong-Korea made a game of it but came up short in a 4-3 loss to Brisbane. Right fielder Kwang-Min Kwon continued to produce as he was 1-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.  Geelong 3 - Brisbane 4

  • Winter leagues are almost over, Tom. Thanks for the updates. Pitchers & Catchers report approx 15 days...

No offense to & not because of you & the other Den writers, but this off season has been super boring compared to most others. Ha Ha!

  • Mets just DFA 2B/SS Gavin Cecchini, their 2012 1st rounder (12th OA). I think he’d be a decent gamble for utility/replace Russell options until a better option came along or he shows he’s not ML material. That’s if he made it to the Cubs spot in the waiver order.
