Opposing pitcher

Scouting Report from Brooks Baseball.

Ivan NovaIvan Nova has thrown 17,236 pitches that have been tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2010 and 2018, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season and the MLB Postseason. In 2018, he has relied primarily on his Sinker (93mph) and Fourseam Fastball (94mph), also mixing in a Curve (81mph) and Change (87mph). He also rarely throws a Slider (82mph).

His sinker has an obvious tail, has slightly above average velo and has some natural sinking action. His fourseam fastball has some natural sinking action, has essentially average velo and has slight armside run. His curvehas primarily 12-6 movement, has little depth, is slightly harder than usual and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves. His change is much firmer than usual and has slight armside fade. His slider has exceptional depth, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders and has primarily 12-6 movement.

Sean's Note: Not sure what else to say about Ivan, the Cubs face him a lot. I feel like I've broken him down like 50 times, probably is more like eight, feels like 50. He doesn't strike out many batters and lefties hit him slightly better than righties. Nova continues to dominate the Cubs, allowing just five runs in 19.1 innings against them in 2018.

Final Thoughts: The Cubs look lost right now having scored just one run the last two days. Meanwhile the Brewers are surging, just a half game out of first place. An offensive spark is badly needed and now Kris Bryant is out after getting hit in the wrist last night. Jose Quintana struggled in his last start against his former team, he needs a big game tonight. Things are pretty tense right now this is a must win game, hopefully the Cubs show up.

  • How we doing, Cubs fans? Beautiful night at Wrigley, mostly clear skies, mid-60's, little breeze blowing left-to-right. I see Zo gets the night off and the lineup looks a little funny. What caught my eye was Heyward in CF with Happ in RF. Made me think "Hmmm", but other than that, just another fun day at the old ballpark, right?

I thought about posting some inspirational lyrics from the classic "Hey Hey, Holy Mackerel", but then remembered that song was written in 1968 and gained popularity as a fight song for the 1969 season. Bad choice.

I'll go with something that hits a little closer to how we are feeling in the moment. Hopefully the ledge-jumpers can take a step back and realize this is supposed to be enjoyable, and anything worth having is worth believing in and fighting for:

    "I been to the edge.
And there I stood and looked down.
You know I lost a lot of friends there, baby.
I got no time to mess around.
So if you want it got to bleed for it, baby!"

    Go Cubs!

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

    “It’s a beautiful day for a homerun
    But even a triple’s ok
    We’re gonna scream and boo
    And raise a hullabaloo
    At the ballgame....today”

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

( I couldn’t add the preamble about taking the afternoon off)

But......could we NOT serve up a meatball to Pablo Banjo tonight???

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

    It's a beautiful day for a W.

  • Anybody sittin SHIVA tonight for our beloved Cubbies ?

  • The cubs have a -8 run differential in the 2nd half and have been shutout 6 more times than the 2013 cubs with 5 games remaining.Wow it's a miracle they have maintained this long.

  • Brewers/DirtyBirds have an hour head start on us tonight. Brewers 1-0, top 3.

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

Wow are they really gonna sweep the cards in Stl. If they pull off that sweep in a playoff type of series then sorry but they deserve to win the division. The best teams step up in the biggest games

  • fb_avatar

Cubs must take care if business. As much as we’ll be scoreboard watching they shouldn’t be—they know what they have to do.

  • fb_avatar

    I am numb.

  • With Q on the mound tonight, my first question to all is ALWAYS this......which Q will we get tonight Jeckyll or Hyde. he truly is like a box of chocolates, you just never know what you're gonna get. He looked good the first 2 batters, actually really good, but here we are down 0-1 in the first inning after Q shook off 3 different Caratini pitches and now the Pirates have more runs than the Cubs have scored in the last 15 innings. I'll say this, the Cubs will either get shut out again tonight against Nova or kick the snot out of him. Here's hoping !!!!

    Go Cubs !!!!!!!

  • Wait, just saw the lineup. Happless, Bote and Schwarber all in the lineup. Those three's combined average is .234. I don't care what the history of Zobrist vs. Nova is, I'll take him over any of the aforementioned

  • Nova just threw Baez 6 balls and not one of them was a strike, yet it still ended in a K.

  • In reply to INSaluki:

Yes and he should have been on base before J Hey's blast. Javy's trying too hard.

  • Heyward! that has to relieve some pressure

  • Why the heck is Heyward batting clean-up?

    #firejoe

  • Jey Heyward has his avg back over .270 and has gone oppo multiple times in the last week or so. Like his approach. Now comes the dead part of the lineup IMO

  • I hope that breaks the dam..meanwhile, in St. Louis, the Cardinals have loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 4th..

  • fb_avatar

    1-1 now in StL.
Let’s score in more than 1 inn my Cubs.

  • Quintana shook off three signs before he served up that homer in the 1st.

  • In reply to ronvet69:

It was a good pitch. Head high just got hit.. stuff happens.

  • In reply to stix:

    It was the wrong pitch.

  • What a HUGE difference when Baez does NOT swing at pitches outside the strikezone. It didn't pan out as that should have been a DP, but still a much better approach for Baez. If he can keep that up in the playoffs, it will go a long way.

  • Errors, infield hits, sacrifice flys.I'll take it, this is must win because tomorrow the cubs are facing one of the hottest pitchers in the nl.

  • Man I love good defense, and I love watching us pounce on bad defense and extra outs. Cubs 3-1!

Did you see what Javy did? El Mago playing against lesser competition. That was out-smarting the defense.

    Measure that, fWar!

  • fb_avatar

Great eye by Javy and terrific baserunng too. These Cubs look like the Cubs before Labor Day. Now Jadon has to take advantage of that call. More runs! Especially before Q goes through the lineup the 3rd time.
I liked the fact that Bote singles to eight also. If he gets hot that helps immensely. Pop Up! Nuts.

  • Ugghhh that was a critical spot, all heyward had to do was make one of his customary groundball outs to 2nd base.Needed it in the worst way right there

  • Schwarber's biggest AB of the year right here.

  • fb_avatar

It’s too bad there’s not a tv monitor in the dugout. With the box they can see where the pitches are or rather how a pitcher doesn’t throw one in the zone and yet batters are swinging. With that knowledge they could adjust their approach. If not in the dugout then someone should be watching and telling the players. A lot would benefit.

  • “We....will NOT.....go QUIETLY.....INTO THE NIGHT!!!!!”

  • fb_avatar

I do look at other scores, and right now through 8 innings Jacob deGrom has allowed 2 hits, no BB and 10 SO. his ERA is now 1.70.
He would be fun to watch.
Col winning, Milw winning--we have to win tonight, then we can all sleep better for at least one night.
If there weren't 2 outs I might pinch run for Murphy. MVP on the line Javy. Do us proud.

  • In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

I think it comes down to Javy and Yelich. He has almost single handedly carried them to the division lead. Two, yes TWO, cycles, key HR's etc. Javy has been incredible and offers a more rounded game but Yellich is a more consistent hitter and I think he'd get my vote. If Mil wins the division, which they won't, you almost have to give it to him.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to INSaluki:

If Miilw gets into the playoffs I think Yelich wins it. In the last 2 weeks or so he’s been incredible and has I think 15 RBI and an OPS of 1.500. He’s come through when they needed him to. Javy’s been really good but not to that level.

  • This dial goes to one hundred and eleven.

    JA-V-P!

  • fb_avatar

    to quote Dylan Thomas:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
That's the Cubs, not going gently into the night. Rage Rage and fight.

  • There's the offense we've been waiting for..

  • Okay, it's the 5th inning, Q's bane. If he can get through this inning, we are looking good !!!

  • In reply to INSaluki:

Not flawless, but I'll take it.

  • fb_avatar

    What a play by Q !!

Bailed the Schwarbenator out on the double turned triple !!

Lets get to the 6th w Q at less then 75 pitches

  • Are there any free agent left fielders coming on the market ?

  • Good job Q. I'd like to see him go a little deeper in the game though. He only has like 75 pitches as Jim noted.

  • In reply to INSaluki:

I hate to say this but I hope the Cardinals can win tonight. Will someone slow Milwaukee down ?

  • In reply to ronvet69:

Norway will drop the hammer on the Brew Crew in a few hours.

  • fb_avatar

Counsel took Chacin out after 5 while he was throwing a 1 hitter?

I hope that comes back to bite them !

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

    You bet !

  • fb_avatar

What kinda nonsense is this? Taking Q out after 5 when we have games the next 4 days and possibly then next 5 or even 6 ?

I don't get that Caratini bunt at all.

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Lou: "We need big Z for Game 4."

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to BarleyPop:

Yea your right. I didn't think about that style of managing. The old seniors managers must think like that.

Well I am going to believe he's saving Q's strength for the game Monday at Wrigley

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

I agree. Joe made a piss poor move. That really upsets me, especially when we'll really need our best BP tomorrow against one of the Buccos best pitchers.

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Joe just lost that chess match in the 5th there, plain and simple.......now if only he can prayerfully learn from it............

  • In reply to Treebeard:

    Treebeard, my friend...

We're in the middle of a critical game. I don't want to take time away from that. You have been mentioned in a couple comments recently. I have went to bat for you. We all realize everyone has their own beliefs. But no one pushes them on this site. We all respect your values, but at times you are too aggressive in announcing them.

We are all Cubs fans, and we all ask for whatever extra help we may need, especially during a Chatwood experience. But we have varied beliefs, and we all try to respect that without making our own a large part of our comments.

You have entertained me many times with your oddball comments. But could we dial back the religious references a bit to respect the rest of this community?

    Thank you, Treebeard .

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to BarleyPop:

I don't know want to step on any toes or start anything, but just saying the word "pray" or "praying" in any context is offending to some ?

If it is, I apologize for being so naive and oblivious and I will never say those words again.

There have been many times esp in 2016 I would be praying for a 1-2-3 9th inning for Chapman or a rally from our offense late in a game !

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

It's been brought up and discussed recently. I'm like you and not offended. But the topic is unnecessarily distracting. I have my beliefs, you have yours, and there are many others. The issue draws such strong feelings that some have proposed banning any mention. I don't like banning expression; I'd much rather police ourselves and simply not make secular statements.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to BarleyPop:

+1000 for that comment about banning people.

Just find it strange just the word pray invokes so much sentiment.

Whom you pray to or why n what u pray to, I get all the way and that doesn't belong here at all.

I could be alone here, but saying " I am praying that Strop can get this final out of the game" doesn't offend me in anyway.

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

+1000 for that comment. Me neither. I'm not offended by the mere mention of topics I disagree with. But some are.

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

And by the way, Jim, I can't win for losing. I'm catching it from both sides. I just think that not adding a secular reference in any comment is respectful to everyone, and would not impede any point a Cub fan may want to make.

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

It doesn’t bother me either really....I’ve always known people or grew up with some that spoke like that. As a Catholic kid all that told me was I had to cut down on my swearing around them.
What does bother me is how over-sensitized some now are to hearing it. Who cares? This hundred dollar bill I’m looking at has 4 words on it that drive some people crazy.....go ahead and throw it in the garbage.....righhhhhhht.....like that is gonna happen....

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to BarleyPop:

Thank you for being so gentle in your remarks. We are all Cubs fans here and out there whatever we want to be.

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

I apologize if I have offended anyone, I definitely was in no way trying to do that; without trying to hash anything out, I'll just say that I'll do my best to pray for and encourage the Cubs on my own time, rather than in my posts here.......

  • In reply to Treebeard:

    Hey, my friend,

I'm not saying you did anything wrong. It's not me. Some readers don't like it and are asking that any mention of one's beliefs be disallowed. I have disagreed, but my point to you is just worship in your own way and keep in mind others may hold different beliefs than you do. We can make baseball points on this site, which is what we do.

    Thank you, Treebeard.

  • fb_avatar

I'm pissed that Joe is pulling Q after 5 innings. Its BS imo

  • fb_avatar

Now that I can monday morning QB after the double play, I hate it even more.

Well come on bull pen. Lets hope someone can get 4+ outs

  • fb_avatar

BS just like I said .wtf Joe? Q could've laid down a bunt and put runners on 2nd & 3rd with 2 outs. Now we have to go to our sworn out BP, wh ed n Q was lights out so far. SMDH

  • fb_avatar

Bader, Carp, and Martinez vs Hader

Could be the game right here in the bottom of the 8th for the Cards

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Sorry missed Munoz sandwiched between carp n bader as Hader mows them all down.

Bottom of the 9th the Cards will have, Delong, Osuna, Gyroko vs Jefferies for their lives .........

Brew got real lucky to get out of the8th w the lead w their leaky D

  • Sometimes Joe makes a move just to make a move to prove how smart he is. Q had more gas in the tank.

  • All you need to know about Schwarber 's hitting this season.
    https://www.cubsinsider.com/2018/09/26/fangraphs-kyle-schwarbers-season-makes-him-worst-clutch-hitter-of-all-time/

  • In reply to CubFanStuckInStl:

He was a bad draft pick, but no one in the organization will admit it. If you put him on an American league team that needs a first baseman and has the DH, he would provide more value.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to ronvet69:

Well they believed he could catch. If he could catch, then his draft position makes sense. Plus the slot money to sign Cease ( or was Cease in Happs class) and the rest.

The mistake they made was believing he could catch. Personally I think if he was still catching, he might not be swinging at all those pitches in the dirt. Maybe he would recognize them better. Granted I only played high school varsity baseball but I was a catcher/2nd baseman until high school and then just 2nd baseman and backup catcher. I always felt I saw the ball better and struck out way less when I was occasionally catching. I think you get used to it, but then again what do I know.

  • Its a big if but if the Cubs can win out there the champs. Tomorrows game will put the Cubbies over the 3 million attendance mark. GO CUBS !

  • To heck with El Mago and Yelich. Jesse Chavez for MVP!

  • fb_avatar

I've drank like 10 tall boys, but Jo ed can stick his head up his ass for pulling Q early. If we lose, it's all on Maddon making a poor decision. Plain & simple.

  • In reply to Wrigley0923:

Impressive on the tall boy tally. I’ve only had a few heinekens, but agree joe is a meathead for pulling q. 74 pitches and four run lead. Could have rested the pen , but he must show what a great practitioner he thinks he is.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Oldno7:

Glad others are finally realizing that Joe occasionally manages to put his fingerprint on the game. He did all the time in Tampa, but they didn't really care as it was just the evil genius mad scientist Joe at work.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Oldno7:

Lol. I'm not even close to drunk, but spot on your thoughts about Jie pulling Q early.

  • In reply to Wrigley0923:

    Your typing says otherwise LOL

  • fb_avatar

What is the over under on how many pitcher Maddon uses to get the final 9 outs. I predict 5.

  • Cardinal pinch runner trips, falls and is out at home with the tying runner out at home

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to stix:

Why do you think the runner didn't go back to 3rd after he fell? He was closer to 3rd then home?

Got to give credit to the 2nd baseman ( Perez I believe ) for being right there backing up the bad throw

  • fb_avatar

We're riding Chavez now. He's thrown 27 pitches with 1 out in the 7th. Joe likes to use only those he trusts and he trusts Chavez. He and Hamels are our trade deadline MVPs.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

The sad part is we will probably need Chavez even more tomorrow. Pirates SP tomorrow is a damn good pitcher vs Lester. Q probably had 2 good innings left in the tank. Tonight's game is pretty much a lock. Tomorrow's game is even more important & Joe's waiting our best BP arm we"ll probably need tomorrow.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Wrigley0923:

You know how I feel about him pulling Q early, but if we don't have to play Monday, then it will all be moot.

I just don't know how he can manage right now oblivious of that possibility.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Q also has problems going through an order the 3rd time. I think Joe wanted to get him out feeling good about his outing tonight and not have to take him out after allowing a hit or two.
If CJ can find the strike zone again that would be huge. Well, not this time. He’s in danger of being not used at all in these next few games.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

Say what you want about Q, but he's been on the mound for the 3 of the biggest Cubs wins of this month. 2 vs Brew and tonight ( please pen hold on ! )

Although I get your point about the rest. I am sure Joe had planned going into September that we would have this all sewed up and he could have Lester, Q, Hendricks, and Hamels all go a low stress 4 or 5 inn max their last turn as tune up for the post season. So maybe this was his modified way of still doing so?

  • In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

Watch Murphy in the playoffs. He's going to be the Cubs best hitter.

  • The cardinals couldn't get one win vs the brewers at home smdh

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to bolla:

Well they better continue that and get that many wins at Wrigley this weekend.

If they do, I will forgive them for being a punching bag for Brew Crew

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

This is what scares me I'm worried the cardinals come here and play 3 good or great games. They still can make the wc game and spoil the nl central for the cubs

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to bolla:

I agree, because they are ALMOST as bad as the white sox fans where they get more joy out of cubs losses then cards wins.

The key will be winning tomorrow and coming out Friday and jumping all over them. They still wont lay down Sat n Sunday, but it would take a little spring out of them.

  • fb_avatar

Rockies up 9-0. I really hope they beat Mthe Brewers in WC game. I'd rather play Rox in DS than the Brewers

  • fb_avatar

Now we have Edwards pitching. If Joe left Q in, Chavez would be pitching now and I'd feel more comfortable.

  • In reply to Wrigley0923:

You bet, and now Edwards can't find the strike zone. What happened to him? He used to be pretty good ?

  • fb_avatar

Dave Roberts real serious. Pulled Ross Stripling out in the 2nd inning w 2 outs and Snakes up 3-2

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

A Dodger loss w/ a Rockies win and look out in the West.

  • fb_avatar

Maddon pulls Q, but let's Edward's walk 2. Smh. If we lose this game, it's all on Maddon over mismagining his pitchers.

  • fb_avatar

WTH! We go from one sucky pitcher to our overworked, hit hard lately pitcher. Our bullpen is a mess all because Genius Joe thought it wise to let Strop hit.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Nick Johnson:

    I 2nd that

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Nick Johnson:

Stop it. Joe in infallible ! He has a plan for everything, even his silly moves like letting Strop hit, pulling Q too early, throwing overworked limited control pitchers into tough spots.

  • I'm pulling for edwards but he simply can't be trusted anymore.

  • fb_avatar

    Mismanaging

  • Tying run to the plate ! Thanks Edwards !

  • How about trading Joe and Schwarber for Bump Willis.

  • Wow this reyes guy again? this is last hitter I want to face not named cervelli

  • fb_avatar

If we lose this game it will be a microcosm of the whole season. Ahead, ahead ahead all season and then all of a sudden we’re behind.
We’re nit there yet but we’re close.?

  • Getting REALLY tired of Edwards blaming others because he doesn’t throw the ball over the plate.....

  • fb_avatar

F - - k Joe Maddon. His team have won in spite of him. It was clear in Tampa and more clear when seen every day!

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Nick Johnson:

I know your frustrated but I have to disagree w the 1st part of that. He clearly managed a lot different in Tampa. He managed a NL style in the AL while everyone in the AL was trying to mash mash mash. Granted some of that was his roster and home park, but he really over performed most yrs down there.

Yea, towards the end of his run, he became more predictable and he couldn't surprise the other team.

In chicago, your not surprising anyone and since lots of teams here play a NL style of ball, he decided he couldn't do that here ( even if he was awesome at it) because it might be expected.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

You can be a Maddon apologist if you wish, but he has been a poor in game manager going back to the 16 playoffs. He did everything in his power to lose several games, but that team somehow won and saved his rear. Most of us see and will admit to him being a horrible in game manager that blows through his bullpen all season, wears them out...and this is what we get.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Nick Johnson:

LOL. Maddon apologist? Thats the 1st time I been ever called that. I been critical of him since 2016 when most thought he was gods gift to baseball.

I am just stating the facts esp about his time in Tampa.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Ok your'e not...I dont keep track. It is a fact that both Tampa and this team have progressively gotten worse with the same core players on each team.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Nick Johnson:

Well you should before labeling someone. Regardless everyones emotions are up.

In Tampa, he's losing his best players via trade or FA and had to depend only on people from the farm every yr to help him compete w the Yanks/Sox/O's/Jays. Whereas here in chicago, he has the best of both worlds, adding FA's, resigning young players, adding players at the deadline. 2 very different situations.

  • Reyes bailed chisek out he swung at ball 4, thank goodness he did

  • fb_avatar

Wow. This is all on Maddon if we lose. Way to go Joe. I'm piss drunk and could've managed this game better than egotistical Joe. We should be very happy if we win this poorly managed game.

  • fb_avatar

SEND JOE TO THE DL! Then Wally pipp him.

  • fb_avatar

How about a 1-2-3 inning folks.

    Good thoughts everyone !!

    Lets go Justin Wilson !

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

I'm on pins, needles, eggshells, etc right now. I'm mostly worried about Joe blowing the BP for tomorrow's game too.

  • I’ve come to despise CJ. NO BALLS! GUTLESS.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to TTP:

CJ needs a little BOsmosis right now

  • fb_avatar

    Thats 1

    2 MO pretty please

  • And I’ve defended Joe for the last time. He is in fact a terrible in-game manager. He keeps the team together. And that’s huge. But he’s a moron in so many ways

  • In reply to TTP:

Maddon has managed this way all season. It is nothing new.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to TTP:

Well said. Joe was handed a WS team in 2015 & totally screwed it up. I don't even give him credit for our 2016 WS win. The players won that plain & simple. He abused Chapman and pulled SP's way too early. Just like he does to this day.

  • fb_avatar

Yay, Cervelli on deck. Go figure.

  • fb_avatar

Bolla's fav no cub is up

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Lol and look where we’re at. Game in jeopardy

  • Cubs fans and these foul balls, that fan took the ball out Rizzos glove. You gotta be kidding me, is a foul ball that serious? Wow

  • fb_avatar

I dunno about you guys........this feels eeerily like 2003 Cubs/Marlins esp w how the crowd is quiet and Cervelli is acting like a young Miggy Cabrera

  • fb_avatar

Oh please lets escape this mess. Come on Wilson, one more out.

  • C'mon, Wilson!

How could that Cubs fan reach for the ball and not give Rizzo a chance for the ball?
I don’t trust Freeman at 2nd. Maybe we get a SO and it won’t get to him although the first out did go to him.

  • fb_avatar

    Tie game!

Now what do we do Joe? Can you bring Q back to pitch the 10th if we need to?

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Joe must go ! Joe must go !

  • fb_avatar

    This is just sickening....

  • fb_avatar

Please please please lets get to the bottom of the 9th tied at 6

  • Really?

  • fb_avatar

I haven't had a drink alone in a loooooooong time. I can't even remember, but I am reaching for the scotch right now

  • If we lose this game the season is over. Toast.

But, please guys, I don’t want to hear the word choke. We’ve been over our skis for months. Too many injuries. No KB. No closer. No Strop. Even Russell injured and then suspended. It’s remarkable that they’re even Ali ave.

  • fb_avatar

If only his dumbass didn't pull Q. This game would have been over with a Cubs win. I'm calling for his head this offseason. This is BS managing.

  • fb_avatar

What makes this even sicker is all those wisconsin hillbilly cheeseheads are dancing ( poorly) like their stepmom and quarter brother just got married.

  • I’m genuinely more irritated by that idiot fan taking the ball out Rizzos glove with the pirates most dangerous hitter at the plate. Of course cervelli hits a double that almost left the park a few pitches later. Wtf man , are they watching the game? Do they not understand the circumstances? That’s some serious incompetence

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to bolla:

I didn't get a good look at it, but I Guess the fan was looking for their "Bartman" moment?

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Rizzo had the ball and was about to squeeze it the guy literally snatched it out of his grasp. If you’re at the game and understand the circumstances why would you do that?

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to bolla:

Wow. It was that bad? Jeez, I have to see this.

I guess thats why Rizzo was sooooo man after a la Moises Alou !

  • I know Barley was joking when posted "#firejoe" I'm not. He has to go after this year. You can not extend him.

  • In reply to 2016 Cubs:

    ABSOLUTY !

  • How to mis manage a game by Joe Maddon .

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to ronvet69:

Not picking on you Ron. Funny thing is so many think this is a new occasion or new thing.

This has been going on for years here. I can honestly say since the beg of 16' he's been mis managing games here n there every season.

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

Your not picking on me, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this mess.

  • fb_avatar

Send us all to bed Mr Baez!

  • fb_avatar

GOT TO WALK IT OFF RIGHT NOW BOYS

The pen is already buried for the next 4 days, but we can't go 12 or so and we surely can't blow this game either.

  • This guy is worse than dusty baker. Hopefully cubs can overcome this terrible leadership. Go Javy!

  • We need a hero!

  • fb_avatar

Cubs hitters are going to go Hero mode now and all swing for a Homer.

    This is not good.

We need to not let the pressure exceed the pleasure. Take what the team gives you

  • fb_avatar

    Heyward wins it? I hope

  • fb_avatar

IF we can somehow hold them scoreless here in the 10th, I think we win this game if the hitters can stop trying to be individual hero's.

    If they score.......... its over.

Honestly how long can you keep asking your pen to get 12 outs a night? Eventually something bad is going to happen. Baseball going to Baseball.

  • How IS IT POSSIBLE for ANY Cub fan to go into that park and pull a Bartman move AGAIN?

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Wickdipper:

Its not rt? Has to be a brewer or pirate fan...........

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

    I'm wondering the same thing..

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

Seriously, especially with freakin cervelli at the plate. Toughest out in their lineup but at least he can go home with a foul ball despite the fact the cubs are holding on to the division lead by a thread

  • fb_avatar

Oh my ----3 letter word !!

    Brandon Kintzler is coming in............

  • Making a lineup with a defensive liability in left, Joe played KB this last week when KB was nowhere near a 100%, Pulling Q with 75 pitches and inserting Edwards in an important game. Joe clearly screwed up this contest. Win or lose this contest, He will be heavily criticized in tomorrows paper.

  • In reply to ronvet69:

while your eyes may not like Schwarber if LF, his defensive stats this year tell a different story. #3 in all of MLB in Total Zone Runs and #3 in all of MLB in Fielding %. #1 in outfield assists for a LF. He is not graceful to the eye but he is better this year than most in baseball.

  • fb_avatar

Single, then Gore, Gore Gore and sac fly to score.

  • fb_avatar

Leadoff walk...... how about we play for 1 run please

  • Salvage this night and please bring in gore

  • BTW, as far as the above crapping on Schwarber, I gotta say he was one of the great heroes in the greatest moments in Cubs history. What we did in not only shocking the sporting world in coming back for the World Series but also coming up big, like getting the hit that started the most significant inning in team history. Can’t believe how ungrateful some are. I will NEVER NEVER regret Theo drafting Schwarbsy.

  • In reply to TTP:

It was short sighted ripping him on that Pirate triple.....he was playing for the normal carome that you have to play for but the ball backspinned into the pole pocket and died there......

  • And he just gets maybe the biggest walk of the year.

  • fb_avatar

Let Gore steal--why else have him in?

  • In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

Exactly, you let him steal then bunt him to 3rd with one out

  • fb_avatar

I just don't understand Cubs hitters. Gore is on first with no outs. Was he told not to steal. We've seen how fast he is, so let him go the first or second pitch to Freeman. Now he's at 3rd but 2 outs.

  • fb_avatar

    1 time Almora

Why Freeman didn't give Gore a chance so he could try to steal 2nd is beyond me

That would be fitting Len.....a walk off wild pitch

Cant imagine Cervelli allowing 1 to get by him to win it

  • fb_avatar

    Wow!!!!

  • Survive for one more day good job by almora

  • fb_avatar

Thank you 3 letter word and thank you Cubs !

    Boy we needed this.

Why did it have to be this difficult is beyond crazy, but hopefully we can ride this momentum into tomorrows game.

How about reward Almora w a start tomorrow Joe? What do you think?

  • In reply to Jim Odirakallumkal:

You can say God! We live in the greatest country on earth! Don’t let barley limit your freedom of speech. Remember he already convicted Addison Russell without evidence or trial!

  • In reply to Oldno7:

Wow dude. I'm going to be better than you, but you make it difficult. You would have more respect if you, well, did anything except troll. I really feel for your sorry ass.

I tried to mediate the disagreement and my entire point was freedom of speech. You didn't get that, and that's not surprising.

You try to hit me with Russell? I have taken a two year beating because of my knowledge of and unwillingness to disclose details of the Russell case. I'm sure you have such integrity

Seriously, I would just like you to dissect Schwarber's swing or give your analysis on Albert Almora, Jr's baseball skills. What do you see as his ceiling and floor? You can explain, and I will offer back my opinion. That's what we do here.

  • Almora delivers!

  • fb_avatar

THANK YOU ALMORA! Now hopefully we can all go to sleep happy and yearn for that tomorrows game "manages" to be less stressful.

  • fb_avatar

Thank you Almora. But the game should've been over if Joe didn't pull Q early. Bye, bye Joe. He's like the anti Dusty Baker. Pulling SP's too early.

  • fb_avatar

    Ledge, what ledge?

  • Man that looked bleak for a second I about to lose it lol. Several ridiculous decisions/things happened the last few innings

  • FWIW magic number 4 now

  • fb_avatar

I agree 100% w what Kap just said to open post game live....... "That wasnt even fun"

I am sure the players enjoyed it, and if this can't spark them, I don't think anything can this year.........

For us fans........ wow was this a painful roller coaster

Poor Q deserved a W and Cishek deserved a night off

  • Cubs Win! Cubs Win! Cubs Wiiinn! Holy Cow!

  • fb_avatar

15 tall boys in, but Cubs win. Maddon sucks at pulling pitchers and blowing up BP's, but I'm out. Thanks to the players(not coaches) for the win. I can sleep semi happy tonight. Although I'm dreading tomorrow if Lester doesn't pitch deep 8nt i'l the game. GO CUBS!

  • fb_avatar

Wow......Bolla you were right. That knucklehead fan w a Cubs fan messes Rizzo up on that foul ball.

Kap said it perfect......" Hey Jackaloon, if a Cubs player is trying to catch a foul ball and your wearing a cubs hat, give him some room"

After the whole Bartman thing, you have to block out the idiot fans near you in this kinda situation. I know thats what I do now, but I rarely if ever have seats that good.

  • My sentiments exactly kaplan!! Idiot fan, they showed several replays wow

  • This would have been the first time here that I would have ripped on Maddon, pulling Q that fast and frying the bullpen but......we got the huge W.
Wasn’t Q ahead 6 to 2 at the time when he was yanked? WHY take him out especially with that low pitch count? He could have bunted when it was his turn to hit....or at least tried? Then leave him in there until he began having trouble.....but no.....now the bullpen gets burned when we really need them the rest of the way.

  • Disagree completely with all of the Maddon bashing. The back end guys (Edwards, Wilson, Chavez) haven’t pitched much at all lately & I’m thinking they thought they needed to get each of them some work tonight. Plus, if we do end up tied with Brewers, it will be Q’s turn in the rotation on Monday. Give him some extra rest & pull him after a solid 5 innings. We are Up 6-2, but have a chance to add on at the point. It’s not Maddon’s fault CJ can’t throw a strike. They need to get him right to have a chance in playoffs
