The Ems are beginning to make a habit out of these 3-2 playoff victories. They took both games of their best-of-three series against Hillsboro to make the Championship Series for the third consecutive season, and now they open up that series with a come-from-behind win by the same score.

Hard throwing Riley Thompson got the ball for Eugene and pitched lights out for the first three innings, using his mid-90s fastball and an inconsistent, yet still effective breaking ball to strike out four batters and face just one above the minimum the first three innings. Spokane got to him in the 4th, however, as they jacked a pair of solo home runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Emeralds offense answered right back in the top of the 5th though, as a Luis Vazquez legged out an infield single to drive home Fernando Kelli, and then after an Andy Weber single moved Vazquez into scoring position, Nelson Velazquez drove him home with a single of his own.

The game remained knotted until the 8th, when Levi Jordan stepped to the plate:

  • More proof that anything can happen once you make it in the playoffs. Good to see the Cubs are developing winners at the lower levels.

Nelson Velazquez seems to have turned it on since August another 2 hit game for him.
