Keegan Thompson (3 IP, 9 H, 8 R, BB, K) was rocked in his AA debut. He allowed six runs in the 1st and then one in each of the next two innings. The situation did not improve once Preston Morrison (3 IP, 3 H, 5 R, BB, 5 K) entered as he allowed three runs in his first inning of work as the BayBears

South Bend 5, Dayton 2

Game Recap

Rollie Lacy continued to carve up Midwest League hitters with six strikeouts over five innings. Jhonny Bethencourt left with an injury in the 5th. His replacement in the lineup, Austin Filiere, went 3-for-3. He kicked off a Cubs rally in the sixth with a leadoff single. The Cubs would go on to score two in the inning, then another in the 7th which Filiere helped set up with a double.

Top Performers

  • Rollie Lacy: 5 IP, 5 H, R, 0 BB, 6 K (W, 3-1, 2.35)
  • Yapson Gomez: 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K (3.66)
  • Brian Glowicki: IP, H, K (S, 13, 1.31)
  • Austin Filiere: 3-3, 2B, R
  • Brandon Hughes: 2-3, R, RBI, BB, SB (19)
  • Jared Young: 1-3, R, 2 RBI, BB, SF
  • Roberto Caro: 2-5, 2B, 2 R

Injuries, Updates, and Trends

I don't have an update on Jhonny Bethencourt at this time. With Christian Donahue temporarily in Des Moines, Cam Balego saw time at second base in this game. An infielder in college, Balego has gone through the catcher conversion program in Mesa. He has continued to see some time at the corner infield spots but this was his first game action at 2B in a while.

After tossing six shutout innings in his first rehab start with Eugene, Ryan Williams was unable to continue that success last night. Williams continued to fill up the strike zone but this time around the balls put in pay found holes in the defense. He allowed seven hits in just 2.2 innings.

Thanks Michael. Any idea why Maples wasn't called up today? He is on the 40 man roster and has been doing well too. I look forward to seeing Hoerner and some of the others start playing.

  • Thompson with a well earned promotion and then lays an egg. Hopefully, he can make the necessary adjustment. Bote could be a Zobrist type of player and fit it well when Zobrist contract expires. I hope we don't trade him.
