Opposing pitcher

Scouting Report from Brooks Baseball

Brent Suter, LHP (Saturday) -His fourseam fastball comes in below hitting speed, is a real worm killer that generates an extreme number of groundballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, is straight as an arrow and has some natural sinking action. His slider comes in below hitting speed, has short glove-side cut, results in somewhat more groundballs compared to other pitchers' sliders and has some two-plane movement. His change has a lot of backspin. His curve (take this with a grain of salt because he's only thrown 3 of them in 2017) is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' curves, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' curves, has slight glove-side movement and has slightly below average velo.

Michael's thought: An Ivy League matchup between Harvard grad Brent Suter and Dartmouth's Kyle Hendricks.

Who Could Have a Day?

Kyle Hendricks. He's hitting his stride at the right time. The pen has been put under a lot of stress the last two games so the Cubs could use a nice, long outing from a starter.

And Javy of course. Because, he's Javy.

Final Thoughts

Cubs have already accomplished a series split, and done it in dramatic fashion. I this year seems like it has no easy wins, even the "blowouts" against the Cards came late in the game. I need a nap so I'm hoping Hendricks can silence the Brewers bats and make this a quiet afternoon.

  • Very painful listening to Matt Vasgersian announce the Cubs game.

  • In reply to 2016 Cubs:

I notice that there is no Pitch Trax. Is that a Fox thing?

  • In reply to CubsFanInNorway:

Probably the guy who sets up the Pitch Trax can't stands listening to Matt Vasgersian too

  • In reply to 2016 Cubs:

Agree......he reminds me a lot of Thommy...

  • Hope we can get Kyle a run or 2 here cuz his pitch count is getting up there....

  • Bryant was SAFE!!!!! WTF is going on. Sogard missed the tag.

  • In reply to rbrucato:

The umps are terrible. Come on dude he was out.

  • In reply to WaitTilNextYear:

No he wasn't. No tag. Go watch it again.

  • In reply to rbrucato:

Let it go he was out. Wasn't even challenged.

  • Is easy to second guess after the fact but I kinda think Counsell out-managed himself're down 2-1 now bud.....

  • Shades of Rajai Davis

  • In reply to Stubbs:

    We won that game too......

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

Too? Did I miss something? Am I buffering? I thought this just went to extras...

  • Imagine how stressful this would be if the pirates didn’t come back Wednesday and we didn’t Thursday. And yesterday required quite the comeback too. *Shudders*

  • In reply to Stubbs:

Not stressful. Just good exciting baseball.

  • Said it yesterday, say it again today...gotta wall Shaw there.

  • In reply to Stubbs:

You would have intentionally walked Shaw yesterday with him being left handed and facing a left handed pitcher?

  • In reply to Wickdipper:

Yes. He and Braun need to be handled with kit gloves. Whenever a base is open late in a tight game, put them on.

Maddon blows another one. Geesh dude how about a squeeze bunt every now and then? The brewers will now win tomorrow's game and the cardinals win tonight and tomorrow and are only 3 games behind cubs going into the big 4 game series in St Louis. The cardinals will be in first place come next the end of next thursday game. Cub fans prepare yourselves for one of the greatest last week of the season collapses ever.

  • In reply to Greg Simmons:

  • In reply to Greg Simmons:

    Yikes dude.

  • In reply to Greg Simmons:

I understand and respect Stubbs' eternal Cubs pessimism, and have told him that directly several times. But I just don't get you and your Cardinals fetish, Greg. If you are a Cubs fan, you're kind of twisted. If you are a troll, you're really bad. If you're a kid, I guess I can cut you some slack. But I just don't get it.

  • In reply to BarleyPop:

He's a troll, dude. He comes to a Cubs site and only posts how the Cubs will lose and how great the Cardinals are. What's peculiar is that every time he does it the the same get their panties all in a bunch.

  • In reply to Cubswin09:

I think you're right, I just can't figure out why he uses this forum to try and ply his trade. This is Cubs Den. He's not going to get people coming back at him. Many of us have given our age through our comments, but I honestly don't know if Greg is 12 or 52. If he is wanting to be a troll, he needs to up his game. It is pretty pathetic in this environment.

  • I mentioned how Joe needs to learn from past experiences, he's treating Davis like he did Chapman last year; he had multiple options, instead of leaving Davis in another inning.......God-willing Joe will start to figure it out, and / or the players will pick him up............

  • Greg’s coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs, but it’s looking like that Cincy series might matter. Really hope the buccos can pull one of these next two off.
