Myles Live Reactions and Recap: Giants 3, Cubs 1

Top 1st

Happ strikes out to end the inning, 2 left on: Well looked like they had something going there. And then, well, they didn't. Shoot.

Bottom 2nd: Cubs 0, Giants 0

Panik RBI single, Panda scores: Felt that big man rumble home from here! Not really. I’m not in San Francisco. But my point is that Pablo Sandoval is a large human being.

Top 3rd: Giants 1, Cubs 0

Albert Almora solo HR: I can’t help but laugh. I loved seeing him in the two spot. He has a .920 OPS against lefties so far this year! But I did not expect to see him hit a dinger off Madbum today. So I laugh. Because that’s awesome.

Top 4th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Willy leadoff walk: That’s a good start. I love leadoff walks.

Schwarber infield fly for last out, Contreras stranded: I do not love leaving a man who leadoff the inning with a walk on base. What a stupid waste.

Bottom 4th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Crawford walks, 2 on, 0 out: Hendricks doesn’t look right. His command is way off.

Monty warming up, Bosio out: Right on cue…

Bumgarner strikes out on 3 straight change-ups: That…is just awesome.

Span strikes out to end the inning: Phew, That was a big out. It was probably Hendricks last batter anyway, but still big [update: it super wasn’t his last batter]

Top 5th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Panda dives for a ball, throws out Zobrist at 1st: How did gravity allow for this play?

Top 6th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Almora leadoff base hit: See? Crushes lefties.

Happ grounds out to end the inning: QUIT WASTING LEADOFF RUNNERS.

Top 7th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Telecast shows 2 different fans sleeping: C’mon. Wake the hell up. Also, there is not a lot going on in this game, so I kind of get it.

Bottom 7th: Cubs 1, Giants 1

Jones singles, 2 on, 1 out: That was a weird pop-up. And this is no bueno. Cubs need a double play to avoid facing Posey.

Parker RBI single: I can't tell you how much he threaded the needle here between the shortstop and third base. I'm so disheartened right now. I know it's probably irrational to think, but the emotions are running high. It feels like a must-win game.

Strop comes in to face Posey, 2 on, 1 out: Double play. PLEASE. #HatsToTheLeft

Posey ground in to double, inning over: Thanks, Pedro.

Top 8th: Giants 2, Cubs 1

Zobrist leadoff single: Great start.

Rizzo pinch-hitting: Here comes a double.

Rizzo strikes out: Oops.

Willy grounds out, grabs his hamstring, inning over: Oh god...please no...

Bottom 8th: Giants 2, Cubs 1

Hunter Pence solo HR: I give up.

Top 9th: Giants 3, Cubs 1

Schwarber up, 2 outs: I have lost all faith right now. I know I'll be fine later. But right now, I'm only thinking about Willson Contreras.

Schwarber grounds out: Who cares? Just be okay, Willy. Please.

  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • To all Denizens I say:

Relax. It's a grind. Relax. So we're not gonna run away with the division. Relax.

We've got a lot of baseball to watch and enjoy. It's the journey, people. And this year's journey includes nailbiters and frustration and joy. Hang in there. I don't know if they're gonna win the division. No one does.

But isn't this great? A pennant race! The Cards nipping at our heels. Meaningful baseball. Probably into the last week of the season, if not the last game. Oh boy!

For so many years, year after year, this is all I ever really wanted. To be in the race. To be deeply invested in the outcomes of games late in the season. We got that. In spades.

So relax. Enjoy. Let's see what happens.

    Go Cubs!

  • In reply to TTP:

    This is sage advice.

  • In reply to TTP:

I suspect Miss Manners would say it's rude to tell people how to feel.

Denizens: panic, be excited, be scared, be fearful, feel anyway you want. It's baseball. You get to choose.

Losing to the Giants is not fun for me. Not happy.

  • In reply to Cubswin09:

    I choose scanicful

  • In reply to TTP:

The grind is ending. With 6 weeks left the finish line is nearing. It is starting to become a sprint.

  • In reply to TTP:

I like this. However it turns out, I think we're in for a fun division race. Embrace the ride!

  • It won't make or break the season, this is why they got Avila.

But baseball is more fun with Javy. Baseball is more fun with Willson as well. Getting to watch both is the best part about being a Cubs fan right now. I just hope he's back soon, for completely selfish reasons.

  • In reply to Michael Ernst:

Yup baez and contreras are hands down my 2 favorite cubs players.Love the way they play the game.

  • In reply to bolla:

Cannot, will not disagree. Javy has always been my guy. I love Javy. But, Almora has become one of my other guys. Joe, dangmagit! Give me more Almora! Pronto! Make him an everyday regular. News flash: the first guy Theo drafted for the Cubs is a Ballplayer! Let him play ball! I love Almora!

We will find out how much money Avila will be worth over the next couple of weeks.

He's going to be in the spotlight of a division race. He could earn himself a lot of money if he can get hot like he was early in the season in Motown.

Something has to give w this offense. Yes, I am tired of saying this every other week since the middle of May. WTH?

  • Go AL Central...bail us out!

    In reply to Stubbs:

Verlander is doing his job. Carrying a No No into the 6th before losing it. KC and Minny up but its very very early.

    In reply to Stubbs:

Bartolo and JV did there jobs. Unfortunately Trevor Cahill and the Royals pen sheet the bed, and the Cards came back

  • So as the bullpen has been more or less falling apart this past week, where has Rondon been?

    In reply to Dingerpalooza:

    On vacation or Resting.

Honestly, they said he was nursing some minor injury but I think he was available today.

  • I am not sure why Schwarber did not play on either Mon or Tues against LHP, but starts against MadBum?

If the issue was not having Schwarber sit too long, why not have him start against lesser LHP and sit against one of the better LHP in the game?
