Phillies Hot Stove Time Machine

Phillies Hot Stove Time Machine
Vernon Wells, Michael Young, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley

Just a little fun with photoshop here...

Earlier today on Twitter a few of us were joking about the Phillies first signing Michael Young and then the news that they are now they considering Vernon Wells.

I wondered if perhaps the next step would be for the Phillies to buy a time machine set back to 2006, to which Harry Pavlidis replied "Hot Stove Time Machine!" and suggested it would make a great photo shop poster.

This is my version.

John, great pic....I can't for the life of me see why they would want the crappy Vernon Wells over Soriano???

  • In reply to Luigi Ziccarelli:

Thanks! Can't figure it out either. Maybe they're trying to get the Cubs to bring the price down or pitch in more money. Whatever the case, if they turn to Wells instead it seems they'd sacrifice the opportunity to get a much better player.

and pay more money i'm sure to boot

  • In reply to Luigi Ziccarelli:

They're probably looking to save money here. They're getting close to the luxury cap -- $7M from what I read. They'd probably like to get an OF'er and perhaps another bullpen arm, so the more they can save on the OF'er, the better.

I think they'd sign Cody Ross if they could but he could put them on the edge -- and may even require them to make a second move.

    In reply to John Arguello:

John, i'm sure Theo and Co could kill 2 birds with one stone for them and give them Soriano and Marmolade and lots of cash for a Dominic Brown and another kid

  • In reply to John Arguello:

Yeah it seems like a ploy for the Cubs sake. And please tell me everyone in that tub is wearing pants.

  • In reply to Carne Harris:

Well they don't really have a body. At least not in my photoshopped version :) They are merely heads and upper torsos.

Seems that it would be a ploy, though not necessarily for the Cubs sake. Main target seems to be Cody Ross. Wells isn't likely to rebound. Seems a curious choice for an OF'er.

  • In reply to John Arguello:

Ah, damn, that makes sense. Come on magical mystery team for Ross, then Soriano to the Phils for Brown.

  • I thought Hendry was with the Yankees. Is he advising Philly now?! ;)

  • In reply to TokyoCraig:

Right? I know the Phils are old school but this is taking it a bit too far.

  • LOL....it does sound like Hendry is consulting the Phillies or something. With Soriano however, I think other teams are waiting for the Cubs to essentially "give " him away. That's not going to happen, if Soriano has a comparable year next year, the Cubs should still get something of value back.

  • In reply to Steve Flores:

It seems that way to me too, which doesnt make sense. The Cubs are below where they want to be in their payroll. They can afford to keep him, both financially and in terms that they have nobody to replace him anyway.

Ha! Maybe something on the Red Sox and their expensive quest for mediocrity...is there a movie poster for that kind of film?

Instead of Goodwill Hunting it's like Goodwill Shopping.

  • Just some thoughts.....

Philadelphia have the worst sports fans.....

Can we "stop" the Soriano stupid trade talk?.....the guy is staying here until the end......if he did O.K. a trade, expect him to pick up another $10 million along the way......

To me, Dick Butkus has more class than Brian Urlacher.....

Jim Hendry is gone...let is go....this is becoming a "Bush Fault" campaign run by Theo's backers if the Cubs don't make progress in 2013.....

I rather have Theo give an extension to Garza before giving money to Jackson...

I like to see one of our Cubs Den reporters do an interviews with past Cubs......"What Are They Doing Now?"...they can start off with a Marla Collins interview and photo spread.......

Marlins have two hot looking girls for their FOX network......check them out......

Does anyone have the "over/under" number of how many Cubs will be on this team's roster next season?...

Glad to hear Noah took my advice to stop that gun shooting act after he scores......

Is everyone ready for some snow?.....

Hearing about our players are doing in the "Winter League"...Campana hit only .231.......his future as a Cub looks grim....

No way Cubs lose 100 games in 2013.....no way they lose 90 games........

It is a a "Make it or Break it" year for BJax & Vitters.....they are either MLB players or Busts.

John, I would like to see the Cubs get Peter Bourjos from the Angels. I have a feeling about him. He's a strong defender with some pop and good speed. A definite upgrade over Campana in my opinion. Could a Marmol, Ha & MiL reliever (i.e. Batista/Harris/Parker) get the Cubs Bourjos & Jepsen?
