Cubs Meet-Up

I've mentioned it briefly in the news and notes columns and in the comments section, but I'm having a spur-of-the-moment, low-key sort of gathering to talk Cubs and whatever else if anyone is interested.

I'll be hanging out this Saturday around 7 pm at Fat Duck, 7218 Madison St. in Forest Park.  Why Fat Duck?  Because they've got great burgers (and good food overall), a great local beer list, and an excellent whiskey selection from small batch bourbons and ryes to good single malt scotches.  Great food, drink, and Cubs!  That works for me.

Another good reason....  It's easily accessible from the L.  It's a few blocks south of the Green Line Harlem Station (there's also a Metra Station that stops there) and about 3 blocks north of the Harlem Blue Line stop.  For drivers, it's just a few blocks north of the Harlem exit on the 290.  If you need more specific directions, feel free to e-mail me.

Also, (H/T to reader BradS) the banner above the bar says Duck Fat...which used to be the name.  Duck Fat, Fat Duck..it's all the same place!

I hope you can make it!

  • Just look for the sign that says "Duckfat"!

Sorry I'll miss it. Only a few blocks from me as well (Clinton and Madison).

  • In reply to BradS:

Good point, they recently change their name. One says Fat Duck and the other says Fat Duck. I think the Duck Fat sign is actually easier to see!

  • In reply to John Arguello:

"One says Fat Duck and the other says Fat Duck"....you haven't started already have you???

  • In reply to Hubbs16:

Ha! Not yet ;) Thanks for catching that...

  • In reply to Hubbs16:

Have you been injured in an accident that wasn't your fault? Perhaps a wayward piano or anvil? Or the dreaded skydiving fat chick? Call Fat Duck and Fat Duck, your personal injury lawyer.

  • In reply to Carne Harris:

LOL!! I missed this one earlier.

  • In reply to BradS:

Bummer you can't make it Brad, you're even closer to that place than I am!

  • You folks have a great time but behave. I don't have enough money to bail you all out.

I DO hope you follow through on your plans for a summer get together. I can start now to put some bail money away for then.

  • In reply to Hubbs16:

LOL! Probably need it with this group ;) Will definitely have something in the summer and plan it well in advance so that people can make plans if interested.

  • In reply to John Arguello:

    Wunnerful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In other news: Who knew Steve Rosenbloom was the GM of the Detroit Tigers?

  • In reply to Eddie:

He makes it sound sooo easy!

  • Burgers, beer, baseball talk. Sounds good to me..

I'll see everyone there on Saturday..

  • In reply to Alex:

    See you there Alex!

  • Sounds like a good place! Sorry I can't make this one. Hopefully I can catch everyone the next time around.

  • In reply to dgedz27:

Too bad dgedz, definitely next time.

Not only can't I make it, but Indians SP Fausto Carmona can't make it either. He was arrested in the Dominican for using a false identity.

His real name is Roberto Heredia, and he's 3 years older than he claimed, 31.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/baseball/mlb/01/19/carmona.indians.ap/index.html?sct=mlb_t2_a3

The Indians/MLB should void his contract, sue him for back wages, and suspend him for at least 1 season.

  • In reply to Just Win:

I don't blame him. Fausto Carmona is a way better name than Roberto Heredia.

    In reply to John Arguello:

lol. ESPN is reporting Garza and Cubs are farther apart than we thought, he didn't ask for 10 mil, he asked for $12.5. Cubs countered with $7.95 million offer.

  • In reply to Just Win:

That's a huge difference. I don't see how Garza can win that one, even with a great year. They typically don't use advanced stats, so Garza comes out looking kind of average.
