Dads Who Run

Working parents have a lot on their plate. And as a working dad, I think we sometimes get taken for granted. It's tough to balance work, family and life in general. Now add in endurance sports? You're upping the ante a bit. I thought it would be nice to highlight some Dads who run! Each week I'll highlight a new dad and compile all the entries here.

Christopher Harris

My name is Chris and I'm a dad who runs. But it wasn't always that way...after all, my kids are only 3 and 5. And I only started seriously running in April 2010. Now some people tell me "Chris, you used to run in the Army" and I would tell them that's true but I never ran for myself. Since I was a reservist I typically crammed to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test...and all of that cramming was years ago so it doesn't count or contribute to who I am as a runner today. Brian Fulton

“Holy $#!*, I am FAT!” Those are the words, or something equally as vulgar, that I said as I stepped on the scale the morning of Jan. 4, 2009. The only savings grace was that in the days leading up to this moment my wife and I and a few other close family members committed to a friendly game of the “biggest loser”.So, I knew that things were going to change. Steve DeLuca

Why do I run? I run because I am blessed. As a devoted, happy and madly in love with my wife husband, father of 4 (3 of which are under 3), a brain tumor survivor, a stage 3 colon cancer survivor, a firefighter, and good friends to many, I run because I am blessed. I am blessed with being all of the things I mentioned. I am blessed that God gave me a second and third chance. I am blessed because of my family. I am blessed because God sent an Angel to be my wife. I am blessed how she sacrifices so I can run and do some of the crazy events I do. Read more...

Ben Tanzer

I am Ben Tanzer, and I am a co-founder of Wham!, the Director of Communications for a nonprofit, an author, the father of two boys, Myles, 9 -1/2 and Noah, 5 -9/10 and a highly compulsive, albeit endlessly slower runner.

I have been running for thirty years this past spring. I was obsessed with joining the track team in 7th grade, there was something magical about it, not sure what I thought it was, and I was hooked, first day, hooked like when I first started reading, which had also been a profound experience for me, escapist and calming. Gene Soboleski

1. Introduction: Greetings! I am Gene and I blog over at www.bigzigonline.com and tweet via @boutdrz. A bit confusing, I know, but so am I. My grandfather called me Zig until my cousin was born, then I became Big Zig. As for the twitter handle, it is supposed to be read as "Be Outdoors", and was my license plate for a few years a few years back. I love being outside regardless of the weather, unless I am just sitting around. I don't do beaches well, but put me on a wooded trail with about 10,000 black flies and mosquitos and I am in Heaven.
