CTA Holiday Train hits Green and Orange lines first on Black Friday

The CTA Holiday Train will make it 2013 debut voyage on the Orange Line before turning Green on Black Friday. The festivities will start just after 3 p.m. on Friday at Midway. At Roosevelt, the train turns Tannenbaum green around the Loop and out to Harlem/Lake and back.

Saturday is Photos with Santa Day from 1:15 to 2 p.m. at Harlem/Lake on the Green Line; then 3:15 to 4 p.m. at Ashland/63rd; and finally from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. at Cottage Grove. Be aware: Folks love the Santa photos, so no doubt Santa will be pushed off schedule by the crowds. So prepare accordingly.

And the Holiday Train is not just about bringing smiles to young (and older) faces, as the CTA reports:

The Holiday Train also continues a more-than-20-year agency tradition of supporting Chicago communities. Every year, CTA employees embrace the spirit of the holidays and donate time and money to purchase groceries and assemble food baskets that are distributed to community organizations across the city. CTA will donate approximately 300 food baskets to 30 local community organizations.

Each food basket contains all the ingredients for a complete meal including a canned ham, potatoes, mixed vegetables, muffin mix, macaroni and cheese, fruit cocktail, green beans, corn and dessert. The Holiday Train delivers the food baskets on three separate days over the holiday season.

Enjoy this great holiday tradition. And Happy Thanksgiving!
