CTA's Holiday Train starts rolling on Black Friday

I've gotten lots of requests from readers who want to know if/when the CTA's Holiday Train will start. So I worked some CTA sources and learned that yes, Santa's sleigh will be riding the rails this year, though there probably won't be a sponsor. The schedule is similar to last year, starting on the Green Line on the day after Thanksgiving. Details should be available soon.

Update: The CTA released the detailed schedule Friday morning.

Plan your trip now. These trains are always very popular and very crowded.

  • Green Line: Nov. 23, 24 & 28
  • Orange/Brown Lines: Nov. 29 & 30 & Dec. 1
  • Pink Line: Dec. 5
  • Blue Line: Dec. 6, 7 & 8
  • Red Line: Dec. 12, 14 & 18
  • Purple Line: Dec. 13 & 19
  • Red/Purple Lines: Dec. 15 & 22
  • Yellow Line: Dec. 20

  • Well it's that time of the year where for an entire month I will ride only buses.

  • Thanks for the info! I was expecting the train to start this weekend on the Red line for the Michigan Ave light festival like it has for years. Now that I know the schedule, I can make plans. It's always so much fun to ride. (except for the double-wide strollers)
