CTA Purple Line shut this weekend between Howard and Davis for new bridge install

Shuttle service will replace rail service this weekend between Howard and Davis on the Purple Line as CTA contractors swing a new bridge into place at the Greenleaf viaduct. Trains will only operate between Davis and Linden.

The rail service suspension will start at 8:30 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday. Read more details on the viaduct replacement project.

No Loop track work this weekend. With the Chicago Blues Festival jammin' Grant Park this weekend, there will be no Loop Track Renewal work this weekend.

  • They're going to replace a total of three bridges in Evanston this summer, so why not do all three on a single weekend with three crews?
That way there's only one shutdown of the line!

I'm sure it has to do with staging the work (i.e. the concrete has to be poured and the bridge fabricated in a certain order), and overtime.

On the other hand, if the Dan Ryan is done in the manner stated, it will in effect be done in the manner you suggest, instead of the usual of "we'll rip out 95th to 79th this year..." However, I've stated here that I think that that plan will eventually be modified somewhat to that extent.
