CTA contractors replace Lunt viaduct parapet

Workers with Kiewit construction on Saturday repaired a badly eroded parapet at the Lunt viaduct just north of the Morse Red Line station. I luckily came upon workers lowering the second of two newly installed parapets.

They will return this Friday to place a concrete block to fill the small gap in the middle. Remember guys: Measure twice, cut once.

According to the third photo and some photos I took on my own, it appears that some 2400-series cars were issued to the Red Line this weekend. What gives?

  • Here's a great time lapse video from a viaduct replacement that happened back in 2006. It's really amazing how much they can do over a weekend.
