Roosting rooster stops CTA Blue Line traffic at Logan Square

From the CTA News of the Weird: Chicago police were called to CTA's Logan Square Blue Line station just after midnight Monday to corral a rooster who was happily roosting on the tracks. The video shows the rooster did not resist "arrest" as the officer scooped him up and sent him to Animal Care and Control, where he got treatment for a broken wing.

  • It's a stupid bird than was probably going to get cooked before it escaped from a local back yard.
If they shut down the power & delayed trains to rescue a birdbrain then it's insane.
Run the damn thing over & let the janitors clean up the mess!

Besides my point last week about how this disproves the premise of The Taking of Pelham 123, I wonder how many robberies weren't deterred in the near Northwest side as a result of the Police preventing the bird from becoming, in effect, pressed chicken.

  • In reply to jack:

I disagree with your point about killing the trolley rail power to Pelham 123.
If that had been done, Mr. Blue [Robert Shaw] would have killed the hostages one by one until the power was restored. He was ruthless, unlike Mr. Brown [Martin Balsam] the ex-motorman. Allowing the train to proceed was done to save their lives.
Remember, those were 18 potential votes for the mayor!

  • In reply to ScooterLibbby:

However, then it would have been The Incident, recommended by bhomey on Feb. 21.

Watching Pelham 123 on TV, I got the impression that it was more "runaway train," sort of in the sense of Speed, or as Homer Simpson put it "I think it was called The Bus that Couldn't Slow Down".

While NYPD may be more competent in dealing with terrorists after 2001 than in 1974, as IMDb put it, "In New York, armed men hijack a subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers. Even if it's paid, how could they get away?"

You're an ass! Thank God there are more compassionate people than you in this world!

  • In reply to Suzanne Rosenorn:

You are a real polite little girl, too, Suzanne.

He was talking about a move, and a highly unrealistic one as well.

So, get off your high horse.

  • By publicizing this incident, you are encouraging similar behavior by other roosters.

  • Good. Now the dogs and cats at Animal Care and Control have an alarm clock.

  • In reply to Helen:

A snack, maybe -- they ended up putting it down. (Apparently roosters and horses have something in common.)

  • Yes, but how does this relate to Republicans and the transit bill in Congress?

I was half expecting "Expect a lot more of this, folks, if the Republicans have their way -- the new transit bill is slated to cut funds to rooster prevention programs by 85%! Write your Congressman!"

  • In reply to darkwing:

Based on the later "sewer train" story, do they need a grant for a "chicken plucking" train?
