CTA news and notes: RTA says no to high-priced consultant

Here are few CTA news items from this past week:

RTA passes on consultant to lobby for federal capital dollars. The RTA board Wednesday voted to reject a $1.7 million contract with consultants to lobby Congress for capital repair dollars for the CTA and Metra.

Red-Purple Modernization update meeting set. The CTA has scheduled an "update meeting" on the Red and Purple Line Modernization project for Feb. 6 and 7. The Feb 6 meeting is at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave. The Feb. 7 meeting is at the Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway. Both meetings run from 5 till 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to:

  • Present updates to the ongoing Environmental Impact Statement process.
  • Provide additional information to the public about the project.
  • Solicit feedback from the community about the project.

Insight into how the CTA built Train Tracker by text message. My friends at GridChicago.com have an interesting story about the station naming conventions for texting arrival times for trains. They explain why the CTA uses alpha abbreviations instead of numerials, like with Bus Tracker.

  • On item (1):

"'This is like going to the craps table with the public's money,' Coulson said."

At least someone figured it out. I'm sure not from reading here.

Now, if that was only applied to item (2).

And, on item (3), Page Not Found.

I fixed the last link. Thanks for letting me know Jack.

  • In reply to Kevin O’Neil:

    Thanks.

Apparently the codes don't work backwards, i.e. Forest Park might result in FORP, but I sure couldn't figure out what FORP meant from the article.

By the same token, the second paragraph does explain the real reason why someone just happened to create a "citizen's site" to campaign to raise our taxes. And the people here wonder why I don't take such stuff at face value. At least it now explains why he didn't reply when I said that the Kruesi administration's effort in that regard was fraudulent.
