Cameras capture teen violence; five arrested

Last week we reported about the CTA's pilot project to install cameras on rail cars. And of course all buses have cameras.

The following video show a violent attack on a Seattle bus. Because there were cameras, five teens were arrested and charged with assault on another pregnant teenager. It would be terrific if the CTA could install cameras on all rail cars.

  • I haven't heard anything about any more shootings on CTA buses after they showed the picture of the guy with the multicolored sweater who shot up the bus leaving the 69-Red Line station, and they disclosed that there was also a camera outside the bus with a picture of him shooting into it.

However, unless it is an easy retrofit, it is going to be at least until 2023 (probably 2033) before all the existing rail cars are replaced. Also, it is going to keep the 911 center busy if they have to follow up on every hobo, wanker, vandal, and other miscreant on the L.

  • welcome to obama's america.

You know, that's so true. When I was working at one of our city's more violent high schools there were NEVER any fights until the afternoon of January 20, 2009. I always wondered why. Now I understand.

Quick research indicates that Blair Holt was shot on a bus in May 2007, and the incident to which I referred in post 1 was in October, 2008. As I indicated, I haven't heard of any shooting on a bus since then.

So, if there is any cause and effect, it probably is like Martha indicated, or ibilldavis meant that under the Obama stimulus, there are now sufficient cameras to deter the attacks. Not that I buy any of those suppositions.

    And thank heaven for that.
