A CTA train derailed in south Loop early Thursday, but it was just a drill, giving rescue crews a chance to prepare for the real thing. Included was a contamination simulation, testing techniques of hazardous materials teams.
The drill was one of eight disaster simulations coordinated over the last five days by the Illinois National guard.
CTA food crawl, not pub crawl. Some colleagues from work today are embarking on a CTA food crawl. There have been plenty of CTA pub crawls, including one sponsored last year by CTA Tattler, but this is strictly food. And it's simple, which works for me on a hot, muggy, June day. Here's the itinerary from Joanna:
First stop: We will hop on the Red Line and take a trip to the Belmont stop to get some Mediterranean fast food at Sinbad's. It is about 1/2 block from the L stop. It's not a fancy place, but they have great falafel and smoothies.
Second stop: After Sinbad's we will go back to the Belmont station and transfer to the Brown Line. We'll head to the Western stop, and to Cafe Selmarie for some dessert.
Third and final stop: After finishing up at Cafe Selmarie we will go back on the Brown Line and head to Russian Tea Time in the Loop, off the Adams/Wabash for afternoon tea. A nice way to end a leisurely afternoon on a CTA food crawl.
