Oftentimes on weekends, we have a little more flexibility
regarding travel times than we do on weekdays. If you're planning a Red
Line excursion this weekend and want to check out the new rail cars the
CTA is testing, here's the schedule:
For the next four Saturdays:
- Departing Howard at 6 am, 9 am, 12:29 pm, 3:31 pm, and 7 pm.
- Departing 95th St. at 7:32 am, 10:32 am, 1:57 pm, 4:59 pm, and 8:35 pm.
For the next three Sundays:
- Departing Howard at 6:30 am, 9:36 am, 1:00 pm, 4:07 pm, and 7:38 pm.
- Departing 95th St. at 7:55 am, 11:05 am, 2:35 pm, 5:35 pm, and 9:05 pm.
I'll be heading to the White Sox game Saturday, so I'll try to catch the
12:29 pm run out of Howard. I caught the new rail cars at 6:12 am twice this week. But trains are not too crowded at that time of day, so I look forward (?) to the game-day crowds too see how they hold up under the crowds. Check
back here early next week for my own review of the test rail cars.
Here's a helpful hint on figuring out when the approximate time
train out of Howard or 95th will reach your station -- try using Google
For instance, let's say you want to know when that 12:29 pm Series 5000
train run out of Howard will reach Fullerton.
Using the Google Transit app on the CTA's home page, you would type in
"Howard Red Line Station, Chicago, IL 60626" as the Start location. Your
is "Fullerton Red Line Station, Chicago, IL 60614." Choose the correct
"leave by" 12:25.
You'll see the suggested route of the Red Line
leaves Howard at 12:29 and arrives Fullerton at 12:53. So get to
Fullerton around 12:50 and the next train should be the swanky new rail
