I've been blogging about all things seen and heard on the CTA for seven years.

I'm so glad we can handle snow and ice in Chicago by clearing it as it accumulates. Not that we've had blizzards like D.C. this year, but they SHUT DOWN all above ground train service whenever there's more than 8 inches of snow due to the 3rd rail not being cleared. It's Thursday, and their non-subway rail service has been shut down since last Friday. Kudos to the CTA for - get this - using "trains" and "people" and "snow melting equipment" to keep our 3rd rails clear. Also, for not giving up, letting snow accumulate, and then trying to clear snow and ice.
I can't even imagine the fallout if the CTA would shut down service for even 1 day due to a 12 inch snowfall.
Here's a pretty good article with a list of excuses, I mean reasons, as to why the DC Metro is still shut down.
