Tits for Tats - Tattoos to Inspire Breast Cancer Survivors

Boobs? As a married man, do I need permission to write about ta-tas? Do I need to run this past a higher authority? So, to the higher authority on the subject I ran. I ran the topic past my wife and asked her opinion as to whether it was appropriate or not for ChicagoNow being that this article revolves around some rather sensitive topics: 1) Boobs, 2) Tattoos, 3) Cancer and 4) Pinterest. I have her permission, so I'm rolling with it. And yes, happier topics are on the horizon. I know I've thrown a couple of hard-to- swallow topics at you lately, but such is life. I promise to balance it out with some lighter topics next week.

So, back to the topic at hand. Yes, yes, you are right. Pinterest is not exactly a sensitive topic, but Personal Ink / P.INK.org did use Pinterest in a very creative way to bring some attention to their effort to support and inspire breast cancer survivors through tattoos and body art. (Oh, and if you've not heard of Pinterest - in what cave have you been calling home? - Just kidding. Fear not. Check it out at http://www.Pinterest.com.)

You know me - I like "creative" and I like supporting a good cause and good message. These are the reasons I am writing this post, and there is a Chicago connection as well. Read on.

If you are looking for a creative way to use social media, P.INK.org has given us an exceptionally well designed example. branding, messaging, organization of content, and imagery all come together to produce an engaging and moving story. P.INK provides tattoo inspirations, ideas, and artist info to breast cancer survivors. To share or pin your own stories, design ideas, and favorite artists, email help@p-ink.org.

Tattoo Inspiration

An introductory video posted by P.ink.org.

Be forewarned that there is some nudity, but it is done rather tastefully. Just thought I'd warn you so you don't go watching this at work or while spending some quality time your 10-year-old son (then again if reading my ramblings is considered "quality bonding time", I foresee some family therapy in your near future).

Our Chicago Connection

David AllenOther than Molly's diagnosis coming over the phone while collecting her luggage at Ohare Airport (0:22 of video), one of the featured Tattoo artist is none other than our own local tattoo guru David Allen of Pioneer Tattoo Studio, Chicago. David is appointment only at Pioneer, but you can schedule an appointment http://allentattoo.com , please read over his information page beforehand at www.allentattoo.com/info.

..and when I build up enough guts to get inked, I may be giving Mr. Allen a ring.
