Haunt Review 2017: 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago

The haunted house shenanigans continue as we enter the month of October, and there's no better way to keep up the scary fun times than a visit to 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago! This haunt is located in Melrose Park, just west of Chicago and is possible to get there by public transport (Pace bus stop at the corner nearby) but I recommend to find a friend or even a fiend to drive to simplify things. The haunt entrance is kind of hard to find off the street as there are not really any brightly lit signs designating an entrance. In this case, GPS is definitely your friend. Parking at the venue is like $5 I think, but a cheaper route would be to park in the Aldi's lot next door for free. It's a huge lot and they don't tow so it's all good.

On the night we went there was very little wait as it was early in the month, but the closer it gets to Halloween there will be a longer wait. Fortunately they have excellent wait entertainment in the form of ghouls, goblins, and evil clowns roaming the area to get up close and personal to scare the bejeebus out of everyone. One clown in particular decided to spend time with me, playing with my hair and stuff and just being generally creepy. I took a picture with him later on in the evening and I joked I'm going to take a picture with my new boyfriend and he growls in my ear "wife" so I guess we're married haha. **JUST KIDDING**

Even without the wait entertainment, you can distract yourself by looking around at the scenery. The sets inside the waiting area were incredible too, Hollywood quality for sure and a sure sign for what is to come.

13th Floor Haunted House Chicago actually consists of two attractions, "Cursed: Purgatory" and "Dead End District: Freakshow". I always liked these type of haunts because I feel like I'm getting more for my money. The sets inside were very impressive as we went through a life sized cemetery with mausoleums and tombstones galore, providing plenty of hiding spaces to to provide those jump scares which the actors took advantage of to our delight. Weaving thru the creepy catacombs led us to a church haunted by a satanic priest who slightly resembled Papa Emeritus from the Swedish rock band Ghost. I don't know if it was intentional or not but I thought it was pretty freaking awesome.

After an adventure involving werewolves, more zombies, and swamp creatures we finally arrived to the second part of the haunt which was a little more urban once you get past the creepy hillbilly hoarders house full of freaky clowns. Yes, more clowns! A casino, hospital and more are the adventures you'll find here. The sets in this section were on a smaller scale but still fang-tastic!

13th Floor Haunted House Chicago is lots of scary fun with plenty to look at. The sets don't really change dramatically every year so it feels a bit too familiar and comfy, but there are plenty of actors who have their scare game on point that will distract from the obvious. Anyhoo, Team Gregula had a very ghoul time!
