Elle King and KONGOS Brighten Up A Rainy Day at the Taste of Chicago

Elle King and KONGOS Brighten Up A Rainy Day at the Taste of Chicago

Thursday July 7 was a wet and wild one at the Petrillo Music Shell in Chicago's Grant Park, but great music provided a little sunshine.

We got to the park too late for the opener Transviolet but we caught the end of their set which was very good, a bouncy rock act that got the crowd warmed up for the Rockabilly stylings of Elle King.

During Elle King's set it started pouring rain, but it didn't stop the fans from enjoying her covers of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues and The Beatles' Oh! Darling. She closed with her megahit Ex's & Oh's which was the greatest thing ever!

(Fun fact: Elle King is the daughter of SNL alum Rob Schneider)

The rain did stop briefly but came back shortly after KONGOS took the stage. This did not dampen the excitement of the fans and especially me, since I have been waiting two years to finally get to see them live! KONGOS really appreciated the fans effort and they mentioned multiple times how much they love Chicago and their fans and that our town was one of the first places to support them.

During their set they played a good mix of songs from their latest album Egomaniac and 2012's Lunatic, including their hits Come With Me Now and I'm Only Joking which really got the crowd jumping. It all ended on a glorious note with a cover of New Order's Blue Monday.

This was a late afternoon of really good music and the folks that braved the wetness in Grant Park were rewarded with a magnificent rainbow during the KONGOS set which was freaking awesome!
