A Day at Bengtson's Pumpkin Fest 2013: A Review

A Gregula Halloween Tradition for 10  years now! Bengtson's Pumpkin Fest!

When the calendar reads the end of September, the air gets a bit chilly and the leaves turn from green to gold...someone becomes a year older,  Our Halloween Season officially begins with the Boo-Day of our very own Count Gregula and there is just no better way to celebrate than spending a sunny day (yes we brought out the SPF 5000 don't worry!) at Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm with our friend and adopted son Grim Marco.

We arrived in the early afternoon and were happy to see that the weather decided to stay a bit warmer than usual.  That meant the jackets came off and the fun is about to come on.  It was surprisingly busy for a Monday, we thought we would have the farm to ourselves but there were tons of families enjoying a day in the fresh air.  As we entered the farm, the piles of pumpkins seemed to welcome us back after a whole year!  More warm and fuzzy feelings were evoked by the familiar decorations and spooky animatronic figures dotting the park.

Highlights at the farm for us included a Hay Ride through the pumpkin patch, the Haunted Barn which takes you on a spooky journey with several animated scenes guaranteed to make your skin crawl and the Fun Barn which is like a haunted house, but with a more kid-friendly theme.  Pig Races at Bengtson's are always a hoot and this year I volunteered Da Count to be a Pig Rooter and our pig won!  His prize? A container of carrots to go feed the animals at the petting zoo, which we enjoyed immensely.

You think that Bengtson's couldn't get any better?  Well, there are some all NEW features for 2013! Starting this year, all kiddie rides are FREE with paid admission, which allowed us to enjoy the train ride at the Hootenanny Railroad Depot. What big kids we are!  Other new features include a pink John Deere tractor for the ladies to take pictures on, the Thrill-A-Billy Goat pen with a brand new trampoline, and even a Talking Pumpkin just west of the funnel cake stand. Last but certainly not least, is the all new discounted admission price on weekdays!  Only $9.99 to visit the farm on Monday-Friday and a new lower weekend price of $11.99. No more coupons to deal with, you just get the great low price!

As usual we had a great time and the boy enjoyed himself taking pics.  Count Gregula's Crypt gives Bengtson's Pumpkin farm a big **TWO FANGS UP** and we shall see y'all again next year!!!
