It all began with the Media Preview Days back on February 7-8, 2013. Getting up at the crack of dawn to make the 8 am Media Breakfast sponsored by Land Rover/Jaguar wasn't easy, but we made it thanks to the convenient Media Shuttle which turned out to be a luxurious Chrysler 300. The breakfast was excellent and informative and full of bacon!
We then went down to the floor to check out the new cars, there were so many displays to peruse a whole day is needed just to look around! Since it was media days and it wasn't very crowded, we decided to take a few test drives at Jeep and Chrysler on their indoor tracks which is always a fun time. We were having such fun, before we knew it, lunchtime came and it was an impressive one sponsored by the Economic Club of Chicago where the special guest was Henrik Fisker from Fisker Automotive who discussed their latest model the Fisker Karma.
There were so many cars to look at, from consumer models to concept cars there was something for everyone. At the Hyundai display there was a tricked-out Elantra Coupe ZE inspired by the television show The Walking Dead. Kia had their Superman car out and Toyota had various cars customized for many of Chicago's sports teams.
This years theme seemed to be for that of the electric car and hybrids. From Ford to Chevrolet etc. etc. it seemed like every brand had one on display at this year's Auto Show. To publicize the benefits of alt-fuel vehicles, a recreation of the 1895 Chicago Times-Herald Auto Race was held on February 15th 2013, and Count Gregula's Crypt crew got to go along for the ride. The EV Road Rally started at McCormick Place, travelled up to Evanston, IL for a press event and made a stop at the Chicago Center for Green Technology for lunch and short tour.
