The purpose of this blog is to introduce you to the exciting world of couchsurfing. I hope it enlightens, not frightens, people to be more open with strangers and to share their home with them. It really isn't about a free place to crash (or shouldn't be), but about getting to know people from all over the world and to learn about each others culture.
You create a profile on the website (www.couchsurfing.org) and then people will request to surf your couch. You can either accept or decline. If you find yourself traveling, then you do the same thing by seeking a couch for yourself. The more complete your profile is and the more references you obtain, the more successful you will be as a surfer and a host.
I became a couchsurfer several years ago when I didn't know anyone in Chicago, and it was a great way to meet local people. The Chicago group plans all sorts of events on a weekly basis. Many of my friends now are people I met through couchsurfing. I also stay in contact with most of the people I hosted, and it's exciting to know that I am able to visit them in their native land one day (when my measly budget permits).
If you have any questions, comments, or want to hit up a couchsurfing event, you can contact me on my blog or email me directly at fitforyou01@yahoo.com. I have had some really wild and interesting adventures, and that is just how we couchsurfers like to roll. Stay tuned!
