Sweet Sonja from Hoesbach

I have taken a little break from couchsurfing; however, I had a surfer this past week and she was well worth the wait. The lovely Sonja is one of the most pleasant young women I have met and hosted.  She hails from Hoesbach, Germany and majors in Computer Science.  Sonja will be spending a semester abroad at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville this fall, and before school begins, she decided to spend some time traveling.  I'm so fortunate that I was chosen to be one of her hosts.

On her first night as my surfer, I took her to Navy Pier, where she participated in some photo taking, souvenir coin-making, her first taste of Matilda and Blue Moon, and a wild night with the incredibly awesome band Your Villain My Hero.  This hot and talented band covered a wide range of artists and did it extremely well. They are so gracious, that during their break, they came into the crowd to pose with many of their adoring fans (including a baby in a stroller). It was kind of like being at a political campaign with the future president!

The next evening I had scored two free tickets to an incredible night of dance at the Auditorium Theatre that included the Hubbard Street Dance Co., the River North Dance Co., the Martha Graham Dance Co., The Joffrey Ballet and the Lar Lubovitch Dance Co. We enjoyed the show immensely, and after that, I took Sonja to the Plymouth Bar for a rooftop nightcap. We were fortunate enough to get a seat facing the Library, staring the cool gargoyles head on.

We had a great time and I was so sad to see her go. A couchsurfer like Sonja is the reason that I will continue to host. I hope to meet her one weekend in Madison before her semester in Platteville is over.
