I love to support the arts and I have a friend/co-worker (that would be Andrew Marikis), who is starring in a theater production called Marisol. It's showing at The Artistic Home on Clark Street until July 31st. I saw it Sunday evening and it's fantastic! The Artistic Home is a great venue, because it's a very intimate setting and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Another perk is that everyone who works there is as nice and accommodating as can be.
Marisol is a dark comedy by playwright Jose Rivera that follows the surreal journey of a young woman who has to learn to endure the insane and ridiculous after the loss of her guardian angel. The actors are so compelling that I could feel their pain, sorrow, and fear, and their performances are powerful and brilliant. I was even impressed with the sound design, which is very complementary to the show.
Please support the arts and go see this production. You will not be disappointed! While the summer months are a busy time for everyone with a plethora of things to do, the show is only one hour and 40 minutes long (including a brief intermission), which leaves plenty of time for barbeques, street festivals, and ball games.
For more information about Marisol, please go to www.theartistichome.org. While it's most favorable to pay the full ticket price, reduced tickets can be found at www.hottix.org under comedy/drama. The ticket prices at this site are a mere $14.00 plus a small convenience fee. That's the price of one cocktail at some bars! Don't procrastinate, as you have less than three weeks before this show says goodbye Chicago!
