I didn't know what to expect when I accepted a request from a woman whose profile photo is an actual weiner dog inside of a hotdog bun, and who said they were going to have a wang dang doodle. What I got was the privilege of meeting a really cool, witty and thoroughly enjoyable person! Cathi hails from Tampa and was doing a whirlwind tour of blues festivals starting in the south and ending up at the Chicago Blues Fest. She had not been here for 25 years, so she decided to stay a couple extra days.
I thought she might be tired of concerts; however, that was not the case. She was willing to do the Monday night concert at Millenium Park with my friend and his guest, and we heard some amazing music by the Campbell Brothers and Phosphorescent. Since she is a beer snob like me, I took her to the Hopleaf Bar in Andersonville after the show. We imbibed in some very tasty brews and she loved the bar and the neighborhood.
The following night, we heard some lovely jazz at Tuesday on the Terrace at the Museum of Contemporary Art. I was so excited for what was to come after, because I knew she would love the Kit Kat Lounge as much as I do. One of my favorite divas was performing, Aurora Sexton, who put on one helluva show! The night was purrfect and we had way too much fun with our cameras, martinis, and doling out dollar bills.
Cathi's stay was way too short, and in fact, I would have been thrilled if she had asked to move into my studio apartment. She is a super person and I can't wait to hang out with her again.
