What's Happening This Week in Space: April 24th, 2019

Star parties, astronomy celebrations, and a science convention are all happening this week in space. Now that the weather is warming up in Chicago, public observing session about, but you'll have to head out of the city and into the suburbs to participate in most of them.

'Scopes in the City: Earth Day with the Adler Planetarium, Beubien Woods Forest Preserve, Saturday April 27th, 10 am- 1 pm

The Adler Planetarium's 'Scopes in the City program is back online now that the weather has warmed up again. During this day time observation session, Adler astronomers will have telescopes available for guests to observe the Sun. This event is free to the public, but weather permitting so follow the event page for updates: 'Scopes in the City.

Earth, Sea, and Sky Day, Challenger Learning Center of NW Indiana, Hammond, IN, Saturday April 27th, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Challenger Learning Center of NW Indiana is only a half hour away from the south side of Chicago, and this weekend they are hosting an Earth and Astronomy Day Celebration! STEMCON 2019, Physical Education Center at College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Saturday April 27th, 10a.m.-4 p.m.

This free event is hosted by the College of DuPage and designed to inspire schoolaged children, grades K-12, in Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math. Hands on demonstrations, activities, and clubs like the Naperville Astronomical Association are all part of this exciting event! Event Info Here: STEMCON

Public Stargazing with Naperville Astronomical Association, NAA Education Center, Naperville, Saturday April 27th, 8-10:30 p.m

The Naperville Astronomical Association is hosting an evening observation session that is free to the public. Club telescopes and members will be on hand to share their knowledge of the night sky. Event info here: NAA Calendar

Public Observing with Northwest Suburban Astronomers, Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, Marengo, Saturday April 27th, 7-8 p.m.

The Northwest Suburban Astronomers hosts public observing sessions with the McHenry County Conservation District. This free star party will be focused on observing star clusters and galaxies. Event details here: NSA Events
