Macy's annual Chicago flower show has taken on a cosmic theme that is truly out of this world. Journey to Paridisios, Operation: Inspiration is a two week celebration of springtime, flowers, and how we experience floral creativity.

Seven floral displays allow you to walk in the footsteps of R.H. Macy IV, the fictional astronaut in Macy's sci-fi story Journey to Paradisios, and art, fashion, and space themed events demonstrate the myriad of ways plants fit into our lives here on Earth and in outer space.
The Adler Planetarium will be hosting an astronaut training camp for the afternoon which features a special robot performance.

If you can't make it downtown for any of the events, try your hand at creating a galactic garden with Macy's virtual deep space terrarium. You can save and share your creation with friends online.
Design and Fashion Displays
In addition to the incredible floral displays around the store, Macy's has dressed up its State Street windows with Journey to Paridisios themed designs. Students from Columbia College Chicago created original fashion designs inspired by visions of Paradisios and space travel. These designs are housed in fashion pods throughout the 7th floor of the store.
I'm a tiny bit obsessed with space. I'm told it's an acceptable obsession because I take what I learn and share it with others. If I'm not writing about space, among other things, I'm busy doing science with one of the many student orgs I volunteer with or, advocating to bring more STEM programs to underrepresented students. I miss working in a lab, so invite me out to see yours!
